I say finally because we are finally able to get a movie that has not been out for twenty years on 4K Blu-Rays. For me, this is a big deal as my collection with 4K's starts heading back to movies from my childhood. Independence Day is much better than the first and Will Smith is hillarious/bad a** in his portrayal of a fighter pilot.

It's cheesy, it's over-the-top action with outdated visual effects, and ridiculous at times. And that's the way I like it. If you like the movie ( you probably have seen it every year during July 4th on tv), then you should get the bluray. They really went out of their way with excellent visual and audio quality and plenty of features to go through.

Still love this movie 20 years later. Some CGI looks a little dated now, but the movie is as fun as ever. I will admit if you own the previous blu Ray release I'm not sure I would recommend upgrading to this version. But if you don't own it, this is the version to get.

This review is for the 20th anniversary 4k blu ray disc. It does not disappoint. The HDR really makes it come alive on screen. And if you have the sound system for it, (which I assume you do since you have a 4k TV and player) the DTS X sound is incredible. If you have loved this classic sci fi film, make sure you upgrade to 4k today.

I really enjoyed the original movie. Saw it in the theater - great effects for the time. Bought the Blu-Ray some time back, great picture for home video. Finding the Steel Book edition was difficult after the 2nd movie came out. My local store happened to have one copy left in the rack. Offers the digital copy which is great to have.

It's one of my favorite movies for a reason! It reminds me of what it was to be a kid in an innocent world, back when we didn't have Kardashins or reality TV, when Sci-fi movies were actually cool! Not all the acting was top-notch but you didn't care then!! It's just a fun movie to watch and remember Will Smith before he was the megastar he is today.

The shot of an F18 flying on a collision course into the alien spacecraft weapon is wonderfully represented here. This steelbook can be had for a very affordable price ($7.99 when I last checked on the date of this review) so if you haven't upgraded this film to Blu-ray in your library, now is a good time to do so.

Good full-length movie for Will Smith \ Jeff Goldblum \ Randy Quaid fans! Lots of edge of your seat action; you get to cheer your favorites to victory over the aliens...highly recommended. We watch this up at the cabin in Minnesota every 4th of July - a tradition every summer. Have seen it many times before - wanted it for my DVD collection... : > )

This movie has awed us with explosions, aliens, and special effects for 20 years! The blu ray/DVD special 20th edition gives us loads of extra features and footage and crystal clear viewing. Go get it and pick up IDR and enjoy a Roland Emmerich double feature!

Independence Day (ID4) is an often silly but fun popcorn flick. Entertainment value is high, due in large part to the performances of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. This Blu-ray is very reasonably priced and is well worth it. Includes both the original theatrical version and an extended cut of the film as a nice bonus.

Excellent classic that looks better than ever. A perfect example of good 'ol 90s Sci-Fi Schlock, but the very good kind. It's fun and has the perfect amount of urgency with the serviceable story. If you haven't seen it at all, you will certainly be entertained and for the price of the Bluray (very cheap), its worth it.

Great transfer!!! This a terrific blockbuster from back in the day. Don’t take it to seriously. It has some cheese factor. But Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum make a good pair against the intergalactic threat.

Will Smith fighting aliens? No this isn't Men in Black, it's the original Independence Day film, now on glorious Steelbook! While the sequel isn't as great as the original, this classic 90's movie about aliens invading the planet Earth is worth watching over and over again. Especially Bill Pullman's speech, great delivery!

This movie is entertaining with a wonderful cast. You have to suspend certain elements to enjoy the film or you will be disappointed. For example, it is a huge stretch to believe an earth scientist’s computer virus could effect alien technology. However, if you can avoid critiquing the improbabilities then you can enjoy the ride.

I bought the original Independence Day on Blu-ray because it was a great price at Best Buy and because I just bought the second one that came out and I loved it. I had already seen Independence Day when I was younger and I know I loved it so that was why I splurged and went ahead and got the blue right instead of the DVD.

This movie is an excellent example of combining good special effects, sound, great story, & Great Actors to make a great film! The 4K Ultra HD only enhances what's already here! Buy it Now!

Great edition of a wonderful '90s sci-fi film. I love how this version has both the theatrical and extended edition, as well as oodles of bonus features. This movie brings me so much joy!

I really loved the original Independence Day movie and cast. I have not seen Independence Day: Resurgence yet but I'm hopeful that they will deliver! The actors I will miss the most from the first movie are James Rebhorn (died 2014) and Randy Quaid. I would have liked for Will Smith to return but it was not meant to be.

I have the dvd and have watched it every 4th of July. When the blu-ray became available, I almost made the purchase. Then this edition came out and I knew the wait was worth it. I took it right home, opened it up and watched the move with the surround sound turned up. Good thing I no longer live in an apartment!

well what can i say about this movie. its a classic, there will never be another movie out there like this one. to this day it still gets buzz every 4th of july. i have a feeling that 20 years from now, tv will still be playing this movie as a special for the 4th of july, just like "a christmas story" that is still being played every year.
