The 4K UHD bluray improves upon 1080P bluray.

This silly, but immensely enjoyable, film has never looked so good! It is a notable improvement over my previous, regular, bluray version. It is not as impressive looking a release as some newer films on UHD bluray, but if you want to see this film in it's best light, this disc is the way to see it! One discovery I've made is that 4K UHD blurays (at least all that I've purchased) have upgraded sound. Numerous bluray films I have had with 5.1 soundtracks are in 7.1 or Atmos on the 4K bluray versions. This was a benefit I wasn't expecting before I had a 4K bluray player! Even the few discs in which picture quality improvements are slight at best, have much better audio (which really shines on my system). If you want to see the best looking and sounding version of this movie available, look no farther!

    Didn't seem like a 4k re-master ...

The movie itself has been out a while and I love it. I would give the movie 4 stars, but the 3 star rating is for the 4k content (resolution, HDR effects, etc.). The 4k version of the movie really didn't add anything new, other than some new DTS:X sound. Sure, you have the HDR effects, but they are not effectively taken advantage of in this movie. Also, the movie appeared to be a blu ray transfer onto a 4k disc, with some refinements, and not a total re-master. I could clearly see extra video noise in some scenes (even at a distance) and was very disappointed. The movie itself is great - go for it. If you want to spend $29.99 on a 4k version of this movie, be warned that it is not a re-master and you may spend a lot of money for nothing if you are expecting a re-master.

    Not a good quality Blu-Ray

Not going to review the movie. By now, you've seen it and either liked it or didn't. Personally I have always enjoyed Independence Day. My main concern is the quality of this bluray disc. To me, there is just too much grain and noise in alot of the scenes. With high def, you hope for clarity and pristine colors. I came away from this bluray not really happy that I was getting good bluray quality. Certain scenes really shine...then 2 minutes later, you get something that looks like VHS. If bluray is going to become a dominant high definition format like DVD did (and I hope it does), we're going to have to get better quality than this.

Not so much a review on the movie, but the packaging. Best Buy has a horrible habit of putting a stupid 'Best Buy' sticker on the cardboard slip on their BluRay movies. Whatever sticker type they use is horrible as I can never get it off the case and am stuck looking at this nonsense. Overall I'm happy with the $5 BR movie, but had I known Amazon was selling the exact same thing for the same price, and without the sticker, I would have used them.

This movie was great fun, made all the more enjoyable by Jeff Goldblum, who I've loved since I was just a teenager...which is a pretty long time ago now that I think about it! Of course, the special effects were fantastic and it's always fun watching Roland Emmerich blow things up. He's kept action fans on the edge of their seats for decades, so if you're a fan of his over the top style, you should enjoy this one as well. Blu-ray looks great too...recommended!

Granted, I hadn't seen this movie in over 10 years. I have no doubt that it looks miles better than the original releases, but it's still an older movie and visual quality and clarity doesn't quite compare to new films. Bust still, looked good and sounded good. No hard complaints. If you like the movie, go for it.

One of the best alien invasion/disaster movies to ever release. It has been the advertised title to grace almost every major new home video format... from vhs to dvd, dvd to bluray, and now bluray to 4k bluray. However, on this release there is more details to scenes but they introduced a bunch of film grain. Some may like it and some will not! I am one of those that hate film grain!

Lots of action, good graphics; no spark

There was great action in this movie and the graphics were great (but not worth the price of a 4K Blu-ray, though); the story was flat, the dialogue was silly at times, and the movie really was just 'blah'. Good for a distraction, not so good if you're looking for anything intelligent or unique - or targeted to adults. It seemed to be primarily directed at the teen audience.

This was an exciting movie and was great watching in the theater, so I thought it would look great in 4k. I was wrong. They didn’t remaster this movie for uhd and it shows. Half of the scenes have a grainy picture, which is exasperated in 4k. Save your money and stick to the bluray version.

This is obviously still the same great movie we all know and love, but the picture is very grainy. I know the movie obviously was not shot in 4k or even 2k, but it really looks almost like old DVD quality. The sound is great and all, but the picture quality could really be better. If you are buying this expecting a 4k quality picture, stay away.

I was excited to get this movie when I saw it on the sale rack. Took it home to watch like a big event. I am a huge fan of the first Independence Day and watched it over 25 times. This one, well I fell asleep after 30 minutes. I didn't feel the tie in between the movies. Maybe it was me. Perhaps I expected too much? Lower your expectations first and it will help.

Theatrical cut PQ better than the directors cut

Great movie, looks fresh at it was 20 years ago. But the Director's cut video quality the black level is heavy most of the times and the color saturation seems to be diminished and a little bit on the greenish hue. It was not an improvement at all from the theatrical version. In fact the latter seems to have a more vibrant color than the directors cut.

This was my first 4K movie purchase as one of my favorite movies I wanted to see if it could get better. Unfortunately this movie was t shot in 4K and you can tell it is upscaled from 1080. Still better than 1080 if you're a big fan. If you want to see what your new 4K player can do get a 4K movie with HDR.

I catch myself watching extended portions of this film when I run across it on cable. There was a lot to like about this campy clash between invading aliens and ill-prepared humans. You really can appreciate it after seeing the mess that was the sequel.

If you liked the first independents day then you will like this installment. The movie pace is a little slow at times, but still some what entertaining. You will be surprised on who won't be coming back. Color and sound are excellent. Not bad for the second time around.

Though science-fiction, most liberties are taken with the laws of physics; yet since not intended to withstand scrutiny thus enjoyable. All cast are well-placed, the storyline complete and allows the viewer to ignore factual errors/impossibilities while following the twists throughout.

This video has the same basic theme as the classic HG Wells tale. In Independence Day the special effects are cool but the body count is massive. The one thing that really saves the movie is Wil Smith's performance.

Independence Day really doesn't need a review. Best Buy, however, does in this instance. This is the second movie I've bought from them where a silly, large white sticker is placed on the slip cover and is impossible to remove.
