I'm a HVAC/Chiller technician, mine broke on the job and I needed one to hook my laptop up to a chiller for programming. It did the job. Cable is little short but USB extension work well with it.

Adapter based on pl2303 ic that makes it compatible with windows an linux machines. Personally I used it on both systems. Good price-quallity ratio.

GREAT, EASY TO USE USB TO DB9 ADAPTER

There was no delay waiting for drivers to install, nor any problems operating with the devices connected to it. Thanks Insignia and Best Buy!!

Insignia doesn't have the latest drivers, but you can search "PL2303 RS232 Driver" to hopefully find it on Prolific's site.
