Customers often highlight the excellent overall performance, convenient size, and spacious capacity of the 10.2 Cu. Ft. Garage-Ready Chest Freezer. Positive feedback also frequently mentions its quiet operation and effective temperature control, while some buyers noted the freezer's reasonable price and lightweight design. However, a few customers expressed disappointment regarding the lack of interior lighting and some reported receiving units with minor cosmetic damage. Concerns were also raised about frost buildup and the inclusion of only one storage basket.

developing ice at the guskets

The unit started to develop ice at the guskets right as I plugged the unit in. I called Best Buy and they transferred me to The Geek Squad, they asked me to call Insignia direct. After spending an hour with Insignia on the phone, they transferred me to a 'different department' which end up being Best Buy. They told me that they can not do anything and that I must call the Geek Squad. I spend ALL morning on the phone, moving from place to pace on something so simple. Hate this!!!
Brand new unit with ice around the guskets and no one that can help.

I picked this up from the store, got home, opened the box and discovered it was damaged on the side where the motor is. Now we have to take back to the store, which is not close, and have them order another one..

I realize that delivery or warehouse has quality issues. There are quite a few customers sharing the same issues in this community forum. It was dented and bended upon delivery.

It was wrapped and delivered with care but when you open an appliance and it’s scratched, that means whoever boxed it doesn’t care enough to inspect the product. Shame. It’s a nice product

So far, I am really liking this freezer for several reasons. First, it looks great and is slightly larger than the freezer it replaced. it is actually also an inch lower than the previous freezer, and that is much better for me to reach things at the bottom. The "on" light is at the front, which lets me know at a glance that the power is on. The motor is quiet. I allowed a full day for the freezer to get to temperature, but it didn't need that long and water was frozen within 5 or 6 hours. Lid seal is good and lid stays up by itself... very important. This freezer comes with one basket, which I would have liked another one. Overall though, I'm happy with the purchase. I paid for the install, and was very happy as they unboxed outside, carefully placed it where I wanted, and cleaned up afterward.

Very nice freezer, bigger inside than expected. I have this set up in my man-cave/ basement. I feared it would be annoying/ loud, but it is absolutely inaudible, and I love that. I have a digital thermometer inside, and it ALWAYS stays at 14 degrees F. My it will easily hold 200 lb of meat. Three weeks into ownership, very pleased so far!

A Decent Mid-Sized Chest Freezer

I've now had this freezer up and running for about two weeks. I can't speak to the effect on my energy use, but I don't expect a huge problem there.
It's a good unit, and doing very well at holding temperature. It's sitting in my living room, so I'm a bit more aware of it's operation than I might be if it were in a garage or basement, but it's not obtrusive in any real sense. I'm just neurotic enough to be aware of flow noises that I don't immediately identify, and so become aware of it's operation more than I might otherwise.
My concern, at the moment, is that I'm getting a little more frost formation around the seal edge than I'd hoped to see. It's likely in response to local humidity levels, and not a problem with the unit - but will be a pain to deal with. At the same time, it's a known design issue with any chest freezer, so I can't fault the unit. Over all, I'm well satisfied with it.
It's allowing me to spread out my frozen food in a much more useable format - and I can do more meal prep, more easily than with just my above the fridge freezer. As I get things more rationalized I'll be able to use it as a deep freeze, and try to open it up maybe once a week, or so, which will aid with the frost issue I mention, and further improve efficiency.
I do wish that the installed electrical cord for the unit were about three feet longer - my house was built in 1915, and hasn't had the wiring update post 1960 era. Getting power to the unit where I could place it where it wasn't blocking a heating vent was an additional pain. With a more modern building - and more frequent electrical outlets along the walls - this may not be an issue many customers have to worry about. Or in an unfinished section of a building, such as a garage or basement, having an electrician run a proper outlet would be a trivial exercise.

Thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review. We’re glad to hear the freezer is performing well and helping you manage your frozen food more efficiently. It’s great that it’s holding temperature reliably and fitting into your space, even if it’s more noticeable in a living room setting. We understand your concern about the frost buildup around the seal—while it can be influenced by humidity and usage patterns, we know it can still be a hassle. Your point about the power cord length is also appreciated, especially considering the challenges of older home layouts. Feedback like yours is incredibly valuable and helps us continue to improve both design and functionality.

Useful busy Family Freezer

Purchased to store additional family food and those bulky purchases from CostCo. Baskets - for $36 I purchased 3 14x16x8 white wire baskets that fill one side of the freezer from Home Depot search "closetmaid 1088". They stack on top and have room to reach inside making it easy to organize food. Internal dimensions are 19" x 37" with height of 26", but one side has a block where machinery goes that removes a 19x9x9 block spanning the depth. The existing basket is 9" wide by 7" deep and spans the 19" depth. This basket slides from one side of the freezer to the next. Operating noise is low (slightly quieter than my 3yr old kitchen fridge freezer). Assuming it holds up for a few years I think its well worth the 230 sale price and will pay for itself if it saves my family from having to eat out 3 times due to lack of food in the house.

Extra Freezer Capacity

Works as described. Very quiet. Maintains low temperature. Good size for increased freezer capacity to accompany our side-by-side refrigerator,
One of the cons seen in comments has to do with difficulty in getting extra storage baskets. Seems like most wire baskets readily available don't fit across the top of the freezer properly. Would be better if an additional basket was included or at least readily available for purchase.
Using remote sensors to keep an eye on the temperature since it is in the basement and not used on a daily basis. So far it has maintained steady temperature.

Works great so far. The 10cu is nice step up from the 7cu which we were debating. Really glad we went with the larger size (family of 4). Doesn’t sound like much, but it’s almost 40% larger and makes a big difference. Also something to consider is the insulation/walls are the same on both models so the extra space is all storage and doesn’t really make the unit that much larger on the outside. It only has one basket, but was able to order 2 more by calling support who directed me to their parts vendor. I was worried from previous complaints that it would be hard to get extra baskets, but it was super easy. A little frost does collect around the inside lip but sounds like that’s common with all models in this range.

Great freezer. It is a lot roomier than expected and cools efficiently and quickly. Our older one gave out and when we saw this one we jumped on it since the price was perfect for the size. We Plugged it in and it cooled and started freezing our popsicles within and hour of plugging it in. I anticipated it taking a while since it is in the garage and the heat was steaming that day but it didn't take as long as i though. So far it has been holding up great.
