    This is a good dummy fridge, not smart fridge

    This is my second days owning the fridge, so I don't know if the quality is good, but it does feel like it it's pretty okay as it turns on, freezes stuff and etc.. However, I took away 2 stars simply for it's very very very poor WiFi capability. I've owned an Insignia 5.8Cu.ft. Upright fridge for a couple years. Been very happy with it as it does the job. Ran out of space, needing to get a new one, direct instinct, a bigger insignia. And, 17 Cu.ft. I go. Wasn't paying to the full detail of the product as pricing and the capacity is what I care most, and was very happy it came with the WiFi capability, but......no! It does not feel like that. First, poor instruction. The manual does not have anything about how to enable the WiFi on the fridge so you can start using it. It only tells you to go to the App for more information. Fair, everything is digital now, so can the manual. But.... Second, very unfriendly Add Device steps in the app. The app is not easy to use at all. I follow the instruction to try to add the fridge. But... No! It keeps telling me to make sure the fridge has "AP" mode enabled before I shall continue on this step, but it just does not tell you anything about how to do that. Fine.. everything "smart" comes with a little work. I tried to search online, including contacting the BestBuy customer service via online chat. (Chat experience wasn't great at first...) Finally, I found a way(https://files.bbystatic.com/zb1Mkl2iCfka0NXd9H%2BxSA%3D%3D/a5e5e9dc-0af4-4545-a99b-979b219f7ff2.pdf at page 12) to finally enable the AP mode on the fridge. I thought I could finally move forward, but again....no.. Third, very bad connectivity. The app still refuses to connect even though the AP mode is on and flashing. Customer service did not know how to help with this either, so I got redirected to ask for help from the Home Consultation team...(I did not try yet and don't think I want to waste my time on this either...) After more research, I was suspecting the wifi signal isn't stabled, so hooked up my backup router for another 2.4GHz signal and hoping it would help..but..no.. It's still bad. It has so bad of connectivity that it has only 1 bar connectivity through only 1 wall....I literally need to have my router sit in the garage for it to pick up a full bar connection. Fourth, app is different between android and iOS. Out of curiosity, I pulled out my iPad and was hoping to get more information. Yes, my instinct was right. The app on iPad got me to finally connect to the fridge. But, sadly, I wasn't able to successfully connect to WiFi even though I hooked up my router via a extremely long cable for experiment purpose. The fridge was detecting a full bar but still was not able to connect. I tried 5 times, never a success. I gave up. I still haven't decided whether I want to go further by troubleshooting a little more by myself or ask for help from BestBuy consultation department. But, if I did, I'll come back to provide more information.

    Nice Freezer

    We bought this freezer because we were tired of running out of freezer space in our side by side. We settled on this mainly because it was a decent size and on sale at Best Buy. This is a good sized freezer that holds everything we need it to hold. I really like the WiFi feature as it allows me to receive door open and temp warnings on my phone. There are only two issues I had with this and neither one was a game stopper in my opinion. Setting up the WiFi initially was a little challenge as it originally didn't seem to want to connect to the home signal. After a few resets I finally got it to take it and have had no issues since then. The other issue is odd and since I have never owned a dedicated freezer i do not know if it is normal. After you are done in the freezer and close the door it makes an odd higher pitched sound for a few seconds. Our regular side by side doesn't do that. I am assuming it either kicks the compressor into overdrive or activates something to remove the moisture we added to the unit upon opening. Other then this this the freezer is pretty quiet. Doesn't seem to affect the performance so am not really concerned, but if you are putting this where in an area where you need quiet, this may be an issue. I would definitely purchase this unit again. This unit is located in a spare bedroom so the area is always temp controlled.

    I was a little nervous about buying this without being able to see any Insignia refrigerator or freezer products in the store first, but the price was so good and we have been happier with our Insignia TV than our more expensive/ newer name brand tv, so we took the chance and I am so glad we did! This freezer is very spacious and every detail feels very high quality. I like the different storage/ organization options. I have started doing some freezer cooking and buying things in bulk, but still have so much room left to fill. The app might not be essential, but I can see what temp my freezer is even if I’m not at home, which would be useful if I was concerned about my kids switching it over to refrigerator on accident or power surges or something. Because of the app I know that it got down to the correct temperature quickly. With such a glowing review, why do I give it 4 stars instead of 5? When you open the freezer to get something out and close the door again it makes a squealing noise every single time, it isn’t super loud but is annoying. I do hear a similar noise occasionally at other times, but the freezer is in the basement and the noise stops before I can confirm it is that. Overall I still really like the freezer and the noise wouldn’t be enough to stop me from buying another, but we won’t be running out of freezer space anytime soon.

    So far, I've been extremely impressed with this upright freezer. For the features you get, there's just nothing that beats it when comparing prices. Everyone who complains about the WiFi likely doesn't have much knowledge of how WiFi devices work, or expects way more than they should from the app. That said, even if the connectivity of this device didn't work (it works great for me), you can't knock 4 stars off. It's completely unreasonable. Nobody is forcing you to use the WiFi, and if you absolutely have to have it, enjoy spending 2-3+ times the $$ on another option. Everything works as advertised. The one and only thing that would be nice to have would be a lock, but I've spoken with others who have said they've never used the lock on their uprights, so I probably won't need it either. Last but not least, hopefully this thing lasts 10+ years, but if it doesn't, at least I didn't break the bank getting it. Tip: Level the freezer like you're supposed to if you don't want stuff to fall off the shelves.

    App doesn't work

    The freezer worked great until I tried to use the app. The freezer showed up as a camera on the iPhone app when I tried to connect to it. I called tech support and was told I was probably going to have to replace the freezer, but to talk the Geek Squad. The Geek Squad said the only thing to do was to replace the freezer. So, I had to set up another delivery date, etc. The new one does the same thing. So not only did I waste a Saturday waiting for the delivery, (after taking off work for the first delivery) removing the items from the full freezer (finding enough coolers to store 17 cf of items) and then restocking it and I still don't have one that works. Part of the reason for getting this freezer was so that I could be notified if it quit working. What a waste of time and money!

    Great switch from a chest freezer to an upright. Easy access to all stored frozen food. The Best Buy Insignia Upright Freezer has app features, while simple, that similar brands at the same price do not have. Shows freezer temperature, open door or not, can control temperature. Best Buy had a quick, two-day delivery, of a Sunday afternoon in-store purchase. While the first freezer was a 13.2CuFt, the door controls and App did not work, and a replacement was scheduled for 4 days later. However, due to a $50 difference for a 17.0 CuFt, I ordered the larger freezer,which the store arranged to be shipped on the same day as the replacement. Delivery was within the promised time window too. Everything worked, and I am very satisfied. (The phone Wi-Fi app was tricky to set up at first, but quickly setup on the second try.

    I was sold on buying this freezer due to the fact that it has an open door alarm feature. I must say that i am truly glad that i purchased it. After asking my son to go down into the basement to get some food out of the freezer i later noticed an annoying beeping sound; upon entering into the basement i realized my son left the freezer door wide open.. If i would have bought another freezer without this beeping feature I would have been mad about my food lost... The alarm feature isn't very loud but it is a Very noticeable sound due to the fact that it is annoying... I gave it a 4 star rating because once you do close the freezer door it makes a loud sound..

    Bought for extra space to use as a fridge for home-based cake shop, works great and the digital temperature control gives peace of mind—when connected to WiFi you get alerts on your phone if the door stays open too long. It’s annoying if you plan to open the door constantly like a normal fridge, because it vacuum seals after closing the door, so you may find it hard to prop open until you get the hang of it, but that’s a good problem so the internal temperature can stay consistent.

    Shelving issues

    While I like the overall look and design of this model, the wire shelves have been a frustration. The edge that holds the shelf up is very narrow and adding any substantial weight to the shelf has caused the shelf to bend and collapse, sending everything to the shelf below and causing that one to collapse as well. This has happened a number of times so will now be trying metal bar reinforcements to stabilize the shelf, but a better design would have been more useful.

    We're using this as a freezer, not a refrigerator, and we set the temp at zero degrees. The freezer holds the temp well - even goes below that. It has a 'lock' feature that prevents you from erroneously switching the mode to refrigerator. The digital display on the outside is nice - tells you if the door's open, if it's going above the set temperature (or it's supposed to - luckily we've not had that happen!) and what mode you are in.

    Big Capacity~Loud Noise

    The upright has a large capacity and can fit well in a small laundry room. However, it’s a struggle to open and after you open and close, there is a huge noise like it preparing to explode! My husband tells me it’s the suction to close the fridge, so with that I just don’t open it often.... it’s serving it’s purpose! The WiFi on it is difficult to understand.... ?

    Great concept, a refrigerator or a freezer, take your pick but you don't get both. I am using the refrigerator and like it but it could be better. Shelfs do not move although there are plenty of them. Plenty of space inside , seems to hold the temperature fine and since I just got it 1 month ago, I will review in 7 or 8 more months to follow up. Overall a good fridge and concept

    Using it now as an extra refrigerator. May change it to a freezer after we move. Easy to convert. Love the size and ease of it, and also the convenience of being able to read the temp from outside the door. Makes a pleasant sound when opening. Learning how to program it from my phone. Stores a lot! We keep all our drinks in here and still have plenty of room for food. Very satisfied.

    The freezer itself is great with easy controls and spacious interior. The Insignia app needs improvement. I have tried several times and cannot get the freezer to connect to it. With a little one, I liked the door open notification feature to ensure she shuts it properly after getting a treat. I will have to look further into it. As the freezer itself is great, but the app needs improvement, I've given it 4 stars; otherwise, this would have received 5 stars.

    I bought this freezer to replace an older one after 11 years of use. This freezer is huge, plenty of room for my freezer meals and more! I love that once you shut the door after opening, you can hear it sealing. It also has wifi capability, for monitoring the temp which is great if the electricity goes out and the temp inside the freezer starts to rise. This freezer is much quieter than my old one! We love this freezer!

    I tried to follow the directions in the user manual on control of the freezer via WiFi from my iPad without any success. I asked for help from the salespersons with out success. They recommended I try their geek squad which I did. The most they seemed to do give me a phone number. When I phoned Igot put on hold for over 40 minutes. No success. After 1 1/2 months still can’t control freezer. Would not recommend this to anyone.

    This is one of the best appliance I had with the Insignia brand. I'm using it as a garage freezer or you can use it as a fridge too. The space distribution is excellent with grill shelves and long door shelves. Is very silent and efficient. I live in the tropics and I was amazed how fast freeze everything and keep the temperature. I found that the wifi/app setup a little confusing but in general I love this unit.

    LOST WIFI CONNECTION

    The freezer part is ok, however the temp varies off and on by about 3 degrees from the zero we have it set at to -4 to zero. The bad part is the wifi connection is constantly dropping out and sending notices of 'wifi connection lost', this despite the fact the wifi router is in line of site of the freezer. Also despite about 10 attempts I could not get it to connect to the Verizon router, I was able to get it to connect to my Apple Airport Time Capsule

    I was thinking about purchasing 2 of these but decided to try one before buying another. As a freezer, it works find. As a fridge not sure because door bins are narrow. App is completely useless. Temperature is off as higher as 10 degrees. Changing temperature doesn’t work too well. I am not sure how temp can be off if it is getting info from the freezer. I am wondering about is door temperature accurate?

    Have tried to pair to network mutable times following directions to the letter even called support it just will not pair using iOS with latest update app does not work will allow me to get all the way through until ask for network pin can put it in hit continue and nothing reinstalled app reset modem nothing works so don’t buy this fridge if you are looking for this feature to work
