The Insignia™ 2.0 Mini Soundbar 20" in black is a fantastic budget-friendly upgrade for anyone tired of tinny TV speakers! This compact little beast punches way above its price point—seriously, the sound quality improvement is huge for movies, shows, and even music. Dialogue comes through crystal clear (no more cranking the volume during quiet scenes or blasting commercials), and it adds nice fullness and depth without distortion at higher levels.
Setup is a breeze: plug in via optical (cable often included), AUX, or pair Bluetooth for streaming from your phone—super convenient for casual use. At just 20 inches long, it fits perfectly under most TVs, between stand legs, or even on a desk/monitor setup without hogging space. The sleek black design looks clean and modern, and it's surprisingly sturdy for its size.
For the money (often on sale for peanuts), you get a remote, multiple EQ modes, and solid volume that fills a small to medium room nicely. It's not going to rattle windows with booming bass (it's 2.0, no subwoofer), but it delivers clear, balanced audio that's leagues better than built-in TV sound. Perfect for bedrooms, apartments, or secondary setups—highly recommend if you're looking for simple, effective audio without breaking the bank!

Small Soundbar, Big Sound for the Right Spot

Insignia has this nice little 20" soundbar available, and it's great for specific needs that aren't called "main theater room." The box includes the soundbar, remote control, 2 AAA batteries, 3.5mm audio cable, wall power adapter, optical cable, mounting screws/anchors, and quick setup guide. The soundbar comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Easy setup since there is no screen interface. It's plug-n-play.
* For the size, this mini soundbar has a nice punch to it. Plenty of sound, not as much bass as I'd like, but this system isn't built for bass... it is compact for certain applications.
* Applications are many; however, the most ideal might be to connect to a PC (3.5mm connection), a kitchen TV, a kid's TV, a garage sound source, a tailgate, or possibly an outdoor TV. These applications might not require a subwoofer and might be more ideal. The soundbar would provide plenty of sound for those situations typically.
* The remote is insanely light in weight but feels sturdy built. It doesn't have a cheap feel to it.
* Though the bass is not intense, the remote does have a BASS+- on it which will help somewhat with the lows. If you're able to somehow pair a subwoofer with this soundbar, it will definitely sound better; however, if you do that, you might as well upgrade the whole system.
* For $50, this is priced exceptionally well for what you get.
* Since there aren't a ton of options sound-wise like Dolby/DTS, it does offer 3 "EQ" options, but very basic - in the form of Theater, News, and Standard sound settings. Those will auto-adjust the sound quality you're looking for.
* The soundbar does come with a mounting template, so if you do decide to mount it on something, you'll have the keyhole distances for easy drilling if needed.
* The rubber feet hold extremely well. They are squared off on the front/back (and hollowed out a little) and provide excellent grip on a flat surface.
* Bluetooth is also available and pairs up easily with phones and tablets that I have.
CONS:
-----------
* Colored LEDs indicate power, volume, input, etc on the front of the soundbar. It helps keep the price point low; however, I always love to see some kind of small LED verbiage on the front of a soundbar so you don't have to know what the colors are. Having said that, the colors are indicated on a sticker on the back of the remote. So you don't have to memorize what each color is for the input.
* There is no eARC, but keep in mind the price point. Most TVs or PCs you hook up to will have an optical or 3.5mm option available. If not, you can purchase an adapter to make it work.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* The soundbar is simple yet affective. It is small enough to fit easily on a desk area but still pack a punch for gaming. If you live in an apartment or dorm room (ie. college) and don't need the subwoofer due to the bass disturbing the neighbors, this might be a great solution.
* USB input (audio on thumb drive) is also available, but I do not utilize this feature.
* Note that this is NOT a "traditional" wireless bluetooth speaker. It must be plugged into an AC outlet to work. There is not a rechargeable battery inside. But yes, it can be wireless through BT audio of course, but it is wired for power.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
For smaller areas or PCs, this ia great solution at this price point. I have seen a ton of desktop speaker systems that get really expensive yet this one looks and sounds great for a lot less $$$. Now if you must have a subwoofer, then this isn't the system for you. If a sub isn't needed, jump on this item quick if your audio source can connect via 3.5mm/optical/bluetooth. USB also an option. The soundbar is light enough that it could be mounted to a TV and not put a ton of weight/force on the TV if you find a universal mount that works. Personally, I wouldn't mount this to a wall because it would also be flush with the wall since the keyholes on the back are also flush on the back. This is a lot of bang for the buck here - and I'd definitely recommend.

Insignia is a brand that I prefer because they offer innovative products built with high quality components yet are priced below most competitors. I seek out Insignia products for these very reasons. This 2.0 Mini Soundbar 20” is another example of Insignia excellence in design & engineering.
Soundbars are available in various lengths & prices; this Insignia measures 2.58” × 20.08” × 3.11” & is a perfect size to enhance TV sound in the bedroom or kitchen. Featuring robust 30 Watt RMS power, this soundbar broadcasts crisp audio at excellent volume in a small to mid-sized room.
The remote has “Bass+” to increase the low frequency response down to 70 Hz. There is no separate subwoofer with this soundbar, but it produces crisp, clear audio and offers a dramatic improvement over the sound from TV speakers. A 3-position equalization on the remote offers these choices: Standard, Theater, or News.
Included with this subwoofer are:
- Remote Control
- 2) AAA Alkaline Batteries for Remote
- Power Adapter
- Wall Mounting Template
- Digital Optical Cable
- 3.5 mm Audio Cable
- Mounting Hardware
- Quick Setup Guide
CONCLUSION:
The Insignia 2.0 Mini Soundbar 20” offers a perfect solution to difficult-to-understand TV sound for a small room. It has a high quality appearance, is offered at a wonderful price & earns my highest recommendation.

Cost Effective Mini Stereo Soundbar

BOTTOM LINE: The Insignia (a Best Buy Brand) 20-inch Mini 2.0 is a value oriented soundbar, for a smaller sized HDTV or a PC, providing 2-channel “stereo” sound enhancements versus stock HDTV or PC speaker systems. Note if your primary intended use is for your higher end HDTV, this soundbar does not support HDMI inputs or outputs. But there are programming workarounds for using your primary remote control. All in all, a cost-effective alternative to stock TV or PC speakers that I would recommend for smaller rooms or if you do not have unlimited funding.
TL;DR
CONNECTIONS: There are primarily two inputs, an optical port and a 3.5mm stereo jack, for use with a TV or PC. (Both optical and 3.5mm economy cables included.) There is also an USB-A input for music stored on a flash drive for WAV or MP3 audio files. And of course, similar to most all current soundbars, it supports Bluetooth wireless technology connectivity. (Note that if using mainly as a BT speaker, remember it must be powered by its AC power adapter.) And I really appreciate the back of the remote control including a color-coded Source Indicator legend that is very convenient for interpreting the soundbar’s front panel status indicator multi-colored LED.
LEARNING REMOTE: Because there are no HDMI ports, there is no HDMI- CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). Therefore, you cannot control power or volume with your HDTV’s remote control without some additional magic. To overcome this limitation, vendors will incorporate learning-teaching (programming) their soundbars so the owner can use one remote simulating CEC. Following the steps outlined in the manual, I was able to program this soundbar to turn my HDTV on, off, volume up, volume down, and mute using my HDTV’s remote control. But it did take me a few attempts, event when programming for an Insignia branded HDTV. According to the manual, this soundbar can learn up to 13 different “button codes” if needed.
SOUND QUALITY: Now expecting this 30-watt soundbar to compete with higher-end systems would be a mistake. So please set your expectations appropriately recognizing this is a compact 2.0 unit, with a compact stereo sound, and priced accordingly. It’s not bad sounding by any means, but it is not designed to provide a large room with a totally immersive soundstage experience.
I will say, the 2.0 stereo sound quality is far superior versus most stock HDMI speakers. And it does include three EQ presets for News, Standard, and Theater. For my use, the Theater sounded very good for movies and general TV adding a virtual 3rd-dimension to the overall listening experience. But the Theater setting for music or concert DVDs just sounded artificial to my ears, with an unnatural slight echo artifact, so I would just switch back to the Standard preset.
I will also mention, not having a center channel (3.0 system) used for dialogue, was not a major limitation. I could hear voices clearly and never had to rewind back to hear again or use Closed Caption to understand conversations peppered with movie special effects. Overall, very impressive for such a small economical soundbar.
BASS CONTROL: There is a separate “bass” control that cannot compete with a subwoofer. But it can add or remove a small amount of bass frequencies depending upon you listening environment and personal preference. For my ears, the bass was set to maximum amount on.
RATING: You definitely get your money’s worth with this Insignia 2.0 Mini Soundbar if you set your expectations correctly. And I believe this unit earned itself a solid 4-Stars for being a value priced Stereo Soundbar. Add another Star if you are able to purchase on sale at a discount!

Bought this to use with a smaller TV in the bedroom. It's compact size is perfect! I was very surprised by the amazing sound quality, there wasn't a display at the store so, I bought it sound unheard. The sound quality is full and rich, much better than the small speakers that are in the TV. The Theater mode is great and makes movies sound amazing for it's small size, you can even adjust the bass so explosions are booming in action flicks. It has definitely surpassed my expectations for what a sound bar this size could sound like. I even use the Bluetooth to listen to music streaming from my phone. I put it under a 26inch tv and it fits perfectly.

Needed a small sound bar to fit in my space. Looked at name brand ones for about triple the price. That dog dont hunt! Settled on the more affordable option. This little bar does everything I need. Makes special effects and music sound better while watching shows and movies. Connects easily to the bluetooth on my Samsung tv. Self connects on start up after the initial pairing. Bass is medium strength but way better than the tv speakers. I am very spoiled by the sound bar already. The tv speakers make me cringe, but I thought they were okay before. For 50 bucks this is a no brainer purchase.

A very nice substitute for computer speakers. I found all the wires to be annoying. The soundbar is small enough to sit under the monitor on my corner desk. Various ways to connect, but blue tooth is fine. The sound is great for the price.

Sounds much better than TV's built-in speakers

BACKGROUND:
I bought a 2023 TCL 40-inch Class S3 TV and am very happy with the picture quality of that TV, yet very disappointed in the extremely poor sound quality of that TV's built-in speakers. But since I paid $150 for the TV, I could not justify spending $100 or more to improve the sound quality. Based on the favorable reviews, I took a chance on this seemingly basic 20-inch soundbar with no subwoofer since it was only $40 - a much better price point to match the TV I bought.
REVIEW:
The sound quality of this soundbar is GREAT and completely solves the problem with the TCL TV's very poor internal speakers. There are 3 sound-quality settings to choose from: standard, news, and theater. Standard sounds like normal stereo, news is very thin with lack of bass, and theater creates a "stereo wide" effect that is very pleasing. I just leave the soundbar on this setting for everything. There's a surprisingly amount of bass response from this soundbar - really good. Voices are crisp. Before, the sound quality from the TV's built-in speakers was thin, plastic-sounding, and lacked anything but mid-range. Now, the sound quality is full-range with surprisingly good low-end bass, and it sounds like wood-cabinet speakers.
Because the TCL TV has a 3.5mm "headphone" jack, this soundbar is a perfect match because it has a 3.5mm input. The soundbar comes with both a 3.5mm cable, and an optical (TOSLINK) cable, and also supports bluetooth, but honestly, using the 3.5mm cable has a lot of advantages. Since the soundbar is just a 2.0 soundbar, this means all that it does is reproduce stereo sound (2 channels, no subwoofer). This means there is no surround decoding happening, which means that the 3.5mm cable gives you the same sound quality and features as the optical cable. The ADVANTAGE of using 3.5mm is that when you adjust the TV volume with your TCL TV remote control, the audio output of the 3.5mm output raises/lowers accordingly. This means that you do NOT need to ever use the soundbar remote control. Just use the TV remote control to control volume and mute audio. It is a huge benefit not to have to use a separate soundbar remote control. The first time you set it up, you do have to press the power button on the actual soundbar (or using the power button on the soundbar's remote control), but once you've done that one time, turning on the TV "activates" the soundbar automatically. And when you turn off the TV, the soundbar automatically goes to sleep/standby mode. (If you lose electrical power to your house, then you do have to press the power button on the soundbar again but that's a rare minor nuisance.)
I recommend turning on the soundbar, pushing the "+" button to turn the soundbar all the way up to maximum volume, using the remote control to set the "mode" to "theater" and then put the remote control away in a drawer. Now you can control the volume entirely using your TV remote and the soundbar essentially becomes part of your TV.

I purchased this to solve a minor sound problem with a 40 inch Insignia TV. It did the trick but I found this bar to be too tall to sit either under or in front of that TV with the TV on a table top. It works fine just behind the TV though. Funny thing is the next model up in Insignia soundbars looks to be low enough, but it measures too wide to go between the feet of that 40 inch TV. Insignia really needs to coordinate their products to work with each other. Simply having taller feet on that TV would have fixed the problem.
I love that they include a remote, an optical digital cable as well as a standard 3.5 mm headphone cable type connector. I ended up using the 3.5 mm as I found the digital sound to be too heavy on effects and music with dialogue difficult to hear. And yes I turned off surround and even tried the dialogue enhancing options and it still did this.
Overall highly recommended at the price though.

Enhances my desktop use. Got this for a good price as I was tired of using headphones with my computer, just wanted something I could turn on. Had to get a separate USB bluetooth toggle because my PC is older but not a big deal. Excellent for the cost, gets very loud and has a remote with volume and bass control and different sound modes. Worth the week long shipping wait over the lower quality items with shorter shipping wait times. I would reccommend if you're looking for something to use with your desktop computer or even a small TV. Makes listening to music, watching videos and playing games on the desktop more fun

This soundbar is ideal for a small to medium sized room. I got it for sale for $40 and it is the best option to me for a small space. I have it in a bedroom of my condo. I have another soundbar of better quality in my living room, but I did want something of that caliber in my bedroom as there are units above and below me that could be affected by sound and bass. This sound bar works great for that. Music clarity is not the best, but it is sufficient. I like the sound quality most when watching live news, tv shows and movies. Overall it is a great buy for the price and for a small space.
