A friend's laptop hard drive failed. I purchased a new replacement drive, but needed a way to reimage the new drive from a backup image I had previously made that was on a WD EasyStore unit. Connected the Insignia 2-bay HDD docking station to my laptop, placed the old drive into it and verified the drive had failed and I was unable to access any info from it. I installed the replacement hard drive into the Insignia, then connected the EasyStore to my laptop. I initialized the replacement laptop, then restored the backup image from EasyStore onto the new drive. Installed the replacement drive into the friend's laptop, booted up and all is running well. The Insignia has to drive docking bays, so had the backup image just been on a loose drive, rather than already in a base like the EasyStore, I could have performed this task solely using the Insignia. The Insignia also supports various size hard drives. If you have a spare hard drive, you could also use this device, along with backup software to create backup images of your own computers, or just transfer/save files, pics, etc. from those machines I have only used this once for the above stated reason, so I cannot speak on durability/longevity of this device.

As soon as I plugged the docking station into my Windows 7 computer, the USB drivers loaded automatically. However, it took me a few minutes to get up and running, as my computer did not immediately recognize the 8tb drive that I inserted into the docking station. Instruction item four in the documentation states: "If this is the first time you are using an SSD or HDD, follow your computer's operating system instructions to format the disk." Sure enough. The drive showed up in the Disk Management window. Following the Windows instructions I formatted the drive and assigned a drive letter. This caused the drive to show up in the Windows Explorer window. Then I coped about 33 gb of music files to the drive. Unfortunately, my computer is a bit dated and does not have USB 3.0 jacks--only USB 2.0--so I'm guessing the data transfer would be much faster with a 3.0 output. As it was, it took about 30 minutes to copy 33 gigs. All in all, I am quite satisfied with this purchase.

I purchased this product to transfer pictures and documents off a desktop computer that would not turn on anymore. Simply took the hard drive out, clicked it into the docking station, plugged the docking station into my laptop and followed some very easy pull and dragging of files to save everything I thought I would have to pay an expert way more than the cost of this product to do for me!

I use this 2 Bay HDD docking station to store information on the hard drives out of my old computers, bad hard drives and or extra hard drives I bought for a computer. A while back, with a program I bought some years ago, I cloned one hard drive to another hard drive, worked perfect!!! I have no buyers remorse!!!

After the power supply died in my Mac Pro, I purchased this unit to save the work that has been done. Simply and well designed.

Easy connections, easy to insert the hard drive. If it is a new unused hard drive, no instructions on how to initialize the drive so the computer recognizes it. Had to do a google search to figure it out. Then good to go.

Very easy setup. Plug and use. Transferred data from my old hard drive to my new computer with ease.

I'm glad it is made for desktop SATA drives and Laptop SATA style drives. Easy to use.

Very useful product. I have been able to connect 2HDD and a pendrive all at once on my macbook and ipad with no issues.

This docking station came in handy several times, but particularly well one time, I had something I needed to get off a laptop that just died, and it was for a class. It took a few minutes to pop in out of the laptop into this hard drive reader. I definitely recommend for anyone who may want to recover data from hard drives without connecting it directly to your motherboard.

Excellent device. Can connect two hard drives at one time and with the included USB cable, can be connected to a PC and show as additional drives. Easy to add or remove files or even format the drive, removing all files.

Great product if you actually need it. Easy to setup and use

It does the job. I was able to recover all of the documents. However it was a little difficult to insert the HDD just in the right, exact position to be able to get the documents. Not taking about the HDD being upside down. The HDD was in the right direction but still took several times, inserting it in the right direction to be able to get the information. But once it was inserted right it worked perfectly.

I have been having problems with one of my external hard drives lately. My computer would not read it. So, I decided to take off the enclosure of the drive and put it on this Insignia. It worked. I saved alot of money and my data was not lost. The cable port of the enclosure was broken. I love this purchase.

This device has been handy for clearing old drives, transferring of data between computers with spare drives, and facilitating creation of redundant backups of important data. USB 3 has made data transfer quicker as well for computers that also have USB 3 over similar devices I have had in the past. Reasonable priced as well in my opinion, quality is good.

I had a harddive that wouldn't boot into Windows regardless of the boot options I selected. I removed the harddrive and plugged it into this on a separate computer. I was able to see all of my stored files and was able to transfer them to the other computer. A life (and money) saver to say the least!

works great on my desktop with Windows 10 OS. I was able to access everything on the hard drive dock. I had two old desktop hard drives and one old dell studio laptop hard. drive
