Good design but could be better quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: Got the Insignia 2-bay USB-to-SATA 3.5"/2.5" HDD docking station new from Best Buy. It is one of the few 2-bay USB-to-SATA 3.5" capable docks without the "offline duplication" feature (a feature I did not want). The dock actually worked mostly OK (in linux), but the eject button for bay 2 was stuck, so the quality of the plastic construction is questionable and I had to return it. Detailed description: The dock worked mostly OK in linux with the UAS driver (SMART features and SCSI mode pages were mostly accessible). Performance was good, with the data transfer rate reaching full SATA speed (3Gbps) for my 16TB 3.5" HDD. Best-Buy does not specify chipsets (key information for USB-to-SATA docks), but in linux I saw that the dock's USB-to-SATA bridge chipset was Intrinsix/MAYA NS-PCHDEDS19, vendor:product == 0x0578:0x0578 (the dock also comes with a VIA labs chipset USB hub, but I did not use/test it). There were some issues (non-critical) with this USB-to-SATA bridge chipset; e.g., some of the power condition page information were reported incorrectly, and the dock seemed to reset the standby timer of any SATA HDD upon power up! But I could manually configure and set standby timeout from the host machine, so this was something I could live with. The show-stopper for me was the plastic construction of questionable quality: Bay 1 and its eject button worked fine, but the Bay 2 eject button was stuck (won't operate properly) even though the dock was brand new. I wanted better quality and so had to return it. Recommendation: Should you buy it? It depends. The electronics is decent and you may be able to live with the construction quality (possibly mine just happened to be a lemon, so it may work fine generally). I needed to put a couple of 16TB high end 3.5" HDDs totaling 32TB+ at $600+, so did not want to take a chance. Bottom line: A good design with questionable construction quality.

Its magical!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simple to use. Just plug the drive to be copied in the slot. Wait a few minutes for the files to copy and you are all set. Then you can copy from the drive to your computer whatever files you need/want. You can copy, move or delete files at your request. I was able to retrieve all my data from my bad old PC to my new PC. Great product for the money.

So easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this device. Rather than having to open up a second notebook to plug in a hard drive to verify if it is working or to gather information from a failed notebook just plug the drive in to the receptacle and start copying. Can't get much easier.

Great but a little chunky
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It could be smaller and there are cheaper versions available but overall it did its job perfectly. Build qaulity felt a little cheap but overall solid device great for those craving storage without cracking open their computer. Worth mentioning you’ll have to create a partition for it

Fantastic!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best drive docking station I've purchased and yet it saved my life on recovering old data I had on drives that didn't seem to connect on my newly bought PC via a data cable adapter. I'd recommend this to anyone who has old SSDs or SATA drives lying around and need their property restored. :)

Works great
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had several old laptops laying around that wouldn't boot up or had electrical problems. We were able to use this to transfer our pictures and other important files. Very easy to use, just plug in and insert drive. Computer reads the drive like it's a zip drive. Just select and copy files and your done.

I'm Liking This
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever a PC dies I make it a point of pulling the hard drive. There is a ton of data left from the last generation that can be moved to a new PC and this device makes it THAT MUCH EASIER. Plug and play. Plug the cable from the reader to the PC and plug in your old hard drive and voila! Move your files to their new home with a drag and drop and be back in business that much faster!

||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a drive not being read by my desktop, and wanted to try a drive bay to see if it made a difference. I picked up this drive bay, plugged it in, and it spun up my drive like it was a portable HDD/SSD. No complaints.

Making the transfers happen
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right tools for the right job is the best way to ensure success. While previously my doc had buttons to where I could automatically clone the drive from one to the second, the simplicity of managing it via the windows storage management or by other applications made this a simple purchase. Using it to transfer data from a first generation SATA hard drive to a SSD NVMe saw very fast speeds of delivery.
