Nice upgrade, even if you have older USB outlets
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These USB charger outlets are a nice upgrade to just about any outlet near where you would want to charge something. I found them exceptionally handy to power a USB-powered clock and a bunch of USB light chargers. They are great for most general USB devices and chargers, as they provide enough wattage to charge them, but not so much wattage that you might second-guess plugging into them. The only drawback I found was if you plug a large enough wall wart into either of the power outlets, it can block the USB port. I found a good workaround with a pass-through plug. I'm using them in the kitchen where we tend to charge most of our 'stuff'. I didn't notice any excess heat while charging a couple lights with both of the USB charging ports. That's about as much draw I think I'll be putting on them. Installation was simple. The outlets have screw-down terminals as well as push-in terminals, as well as a wire strip gauge so you know exactly how long your house wiring needs to be. The covers are nice and thick, and the screws are retained by the plate so you don't lose them.

Solid outlets w/usb
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to try these out in my main office room in my house, to free up all the blocky looking usb chargers that I have plugged in all over. The box comes with 2, of the 2 outlets w/ 2 usb ports each also included are faceplates and an information/installation instruction foldout paper. The installation was pretty standard and went quickly. Pros: The box comes with 2 full 2-wall outlet outlets in it. The unit has 2 front facing usb ports. There is good distance between the outlet ports and the usb ports are also spaced widely, allowing for ample room to plug in everything to all 4 ports on the unit without fuss. Cons: nothing really too much to complain about outside of the 3.6 Amps that are shared on the usb ports, I really feel like this probably could of been a little higher of a number. I did charge my ipad and it seemed to charge just as fast as normal but even if it was a little slower it wasn't enough for me to really notice. The outlets work as they should and I would recommend them for anyone wanting to gain back some of their outlet space.

These upgraded plugs are great for everyone……………….
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This outlet is great for an upgrade to your current outlets in your home. With all the technology as far as tablets, phones etc. The usb ports in this is very convenient. It has the capability of charging 4 devices that require a USB port. These run on 110, 5 volts/1.8 amps. I have to say that the usb are a little slow on the charge, but if you have just basic installation capabilities, these should be easy to install. You do not get surge protection with these plugs. These plugs are really handy if you want just casual charging. Good for when you have company over and everyone needs a plug to charge and you are all sitting at the table and yo can all charge at once, this is one of the things that I like about this. having teenagers, it is quite nice to be able to have them alll charge their device at once. these plugs are nice to have in every room they a re convenient and easy to install, recommend them to the house that has a lot of devices. Just a plain white color but this is standard.

Useful but underpowered
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's start by saying I love the idea of USB ports integrated with wall outlets, they've become as synonymous with charging and powering of small electronics as a standard wall outlet has with powering normal household devices, so having the two in a single place without taking up more space seems like a perfect idea to me. The Insignia wall outlet with USB ports answers that exact question, although with a couple of minor caveats, which I'll get to in a moment. To start, it's packaged in an unassuming blue and white box, nothing special here and it really doesn't need to be. The box contains the two outlets and two small pieces of literature with specifications and installation information, nothing more. The faceplates are integrated with the outlet, which is fine, they can be removed, but they are slightly nonstandard and blocky, so they will not match other outlets in most houses out of the box. As for the outlets themselves, they do not have that piece you can break off to make it so that one outlet can be controlled by a switch while the other is not. These are of the type that have a single hot connection and a single neutral connection (with a ground, of course). Really the biggest downside is the fact that the USB ports have a combined total amperage of 3.6A which to me seems rather low, especially for something that is supplied directly from in-home wiring. They do not have power delivery or any quick charge-like features, which could make them much slower to charge many devices than other standard plug-in devices, I find this to be a fairly large disappointment. Especially once you consider that when both are plugged in, they max out at 1.8A each, which is less than a normal USB phone charger for most modern phones (which tend to be around 2.4A). It's also a miss that at least one of the ports isn't type-c. All-in-all I think it's a nice step in the right direction making USB plugs available in standard home receptacles, and I hope future iterations of the product advance the technology that much more.

Nice upgrade to regular outlets with USB charging!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia In-Wall Outlet with 2 USB Ports is a nice replacement to the plug in units I have been using in my kitchen area. These units protect your electronics from a power spike while giving you additonal options of USB charging. The plug in units I was using that changed a regular socket into a charging port did not have those protections and were big and bulky. The Insignia Wall Outlet is an easy upgrade from your standard electrical outlet. I waited for my husband to install because I don't like to do electrical stuff - but he said it was very simple and would be easy for anyone that is comfortable with simple electrical. He just made sure the power was turned off and then connected the wires. The outlets themselves are really nothing fancy. It's 3.6 Amps of shared USB power to charge your devices , while 110 Volts of power to plug in your electronics and appliances. This is one thing that I would have liked to see a little differently. It would have been nice to see a super charger for the USB charging ports. But it is still nice and better than the plug in units I was using.

Insignia USB Wall Outlet 2-pack
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good item and easy to install. It only has two terminals so if one is replacing an outlet with four terminals with power going to and from it, a little bit of extra wiring may be needed. The price is right too.

They're decent outlets
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's not much to say about these. They work well enough to charge up some devices without needing USB plugins. The only down side I could see is larger plug bricks tend to cover a part of the USB outlets so you'll have to be aware of what you intend to plug in before replacing your old outlet. Setup is as straight forward as your experience allows. I've replaced my fair share of electrical outlets so it was easy enough for me but if you're uncomfortable working with electricity, you might need to hire someone to install them. Just keep in mind what standard plugs you're going to have plugged in and make sure you can plug it in without covering the USB outlets. I had to change where I was going to install these because one of the plugs was just too large. The outlets state they support up to 3.6 amps. I assume that's for both USB outlets so with both plugged in, you can get a maximum of 1.8 amps each which is more than sufficient for most phones and other small devices in our house. Not much more to be said here. They do what they're supposed to. I'm enjoying being able to free up a couple standard plug outlets because I don't need USB chargers plugged in all the time.

A Break from the Norm
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia In-Wall Outlet with 2 USB ports is nothing fancy, but very useful. The construction is solid and instructions were sufficient enough to get started. However, I would highly recommend beginners to read and watch content to avoid shock and error for safety reasons. Obviously, the USB ports are the highlight of these outlets, and they perform well. They allow me to plug in more things, and are convenient for guests who might have forgotten their AC travel adapters. I only have 2 minor "knocks" against these outlets. The first criticism is that I would give it is that the outlet does not feature a USB C port which seems to be the growing standard. I have accumulated a number of USB C to C cables over the years, but I still own a number of USB A to USB C cables which work perfectly fine. The other complaint is that each USB outputs 1.8 amps when shared. This presents no issue for overnight charging, but is not very suitable for charging in a jam (20-30 minutes). Again, these are minor issues with easy workarounds. Smart features and intelligent charging capabilities would've been nice, but the product works well for its given price territory.

Good for the price, but some minor nuances
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are good units considering the price and you are aware that the 3.6 Amps of USB is shared between the two USB ports. I'm sure others would say that they wished for a bit more power from the USB ports and I do too, but it does the job and I'm not sure of what else is on the market that does what this does. The other obvious item is that there is not a Type C USB port, but that should be obvious to those purchasing this device. Installation was pretty simple (assuming you find the correct breaker to switch off). But this is where I have to knock a star off - inserting the wire and tightening the screw was easy enough. However, when I went to insert the unit back into the gang box, I noticed two of the wires had partially slipped out of the hole. I then unscrewed the screws, jammed the wires back in, and really tightened the screw hard to keep the wires completely in. Really, this should not be a big deal, but it could become a safety issue. I have rewired plenty of outlets in my life, and I've never had this happen to me. Tightening hard solved the problem, but I should not have had to tighten it that much. The other thing to be aware of.....I installed my outlet where I have wainscoating in a non-standard color. I painted the outside cover plate. What was nice that it was easily removable so it could be easily painted. But the cover plate is a tad bit smaller than the standard outlet cover and I can see a bit of discoloration as to where the old plate was. Again - not a big deal, but I wish the size of the plate was standard, and one of the reasons I could not go to 5 stars here. Overall a good product tho.
