GREAT DVD PLAYER, Not so great sound

    Posted .

Alright, I do not want to be the first person to write about a product and say bad things so good things first... The DVD player is incredible, upconvert even looked amazing on an older TV. It plays every type of media, and it plays burned DVDs especially well. The great black sleek look matches most TV sets. It even has 2 inputs so you don't have to pull one device out and put another in. The USB connect in the front is cool too. However . . . The sound was terrible. I turned it up to max volume and my TV still dulled the sound out. If you have a small room and you mainly want a great DVD player and sometimes want ok sound than this is the product for you. I returned it less than 24 hours after purchasing it and grabbed a plain old DVD player instead.

what did you expect for the money?

    Posted .

despite the bad reviews, i budged and decided to buy this along with a protection plan, and am fairly pleased with the system. i am an employee, so while i did get this at a discounted price, i still took a hit on it, and my only complaint is that it doesnt read ipods even though it has a usb port. the sound is good for the small speakers. this is a secondary system that i am putting in my bedroom, as that is where i spend most of my time. overall a decent system.

    My 2 Cents

    Posted .

Prior to purchasing the product I researched most home theater systems and determined that Insigna had the most favorable reviews for the price range. It was simple to set up as long as you paid attention to the color coding on the speaker wires. It works great in my small living room. I connected it to an Insignia LCD TV. They look great together! I added an HDMI cable. The bottom line is for the price ($109.99) and performance I think I;ll keep it. ;-) BobH

Pretty Cool System For The Price

    Posted .

Saw this system installed in the work place, it easily filled that 30x30 area with sound. When told of the price I had to have one. Installation was very easy (toughest part was running "video out" cables from back of wall mounted TV to DVD/surround system). Once I memorized what the lower remotes buttons did the rest was simple (small print tough on a guy my age without reading glasses). Once setup and familiarization was completed everything appears to be fine. My wife also purchased a four year warranty. If it last that long I would have gotten more than my moneys' worth.

    shoddy product

    Posted .

Unless you like to gamble I wouldn't buy this product. I read the other reviews and it sounds like you never know which piece of the system won't be working but likely there will be one. For me, the DVD player didn't work straight out of the box. I already had another DVD player and mainly wanted a sound system so I hooked it up (very easy set-up). It worked fine until one day it just stopped. Nothing I did would get it to work again. I had it less than 2 years. I would definitely recommend spending a few extra dollars and get a system where everything is going to work and it might last a reasonable amount of time considering the money you're spending. While it did work, the sound was okay. I definitely wouldn't say it was great as the center speaker was a little too low. I haven't really had luck with any of the Insignia products and will not buy the Best Buy generic brand again. I'll invest in name brand to get quality.

Good little system for the mobile home

    Posted .

I have only had it for one day, I like it a lot better than the rca sound system I had which was for 4 years, plus I got the warranty so if it has problems it will get fixed. From reading other reveiws things can break no matter if its sony or any other brand. It is good so far for my mobile home. If it does break thats what a warranty is for.

you get what you pay for

    Posted .

Unit looks great BUT, you get what you pay for. Had to turn the volume up all the way to get any response from the rear speakers. No balance control. speaker cables were on the short side. Spend a $125.00 more and there is a big differance. I swapped it in for a sony and it was like day & night.

    Great inexpensive system

    Posted .

I got this system with my 50inch tv for my living room. It works great for watching movies and playing my xbox 360, the HDMI hook up is really nice. For the price this is a great small room system. At first I thought it was to weak but once I turned off the tv volume and just used the speakers it sounds a lot better. Now for the bad points, the remote has a delay to it, so sometimes you skip the setting you want. The bass speaker is drowned out by the others. And the worst thing I think is I have an Insignia tv and this is made by insignia, so you think thats a good thing.....no the remote for the tv completly interfers with the reciever. If you turn down the volume on the tv it turns off the reciever or makes it skip. bottom line I cant use my remote for my tv when im using the surrond sound. Still for 125.00 dollars its a great little system.

nice surprise in very affordable system

Needed a boost for my HDTV sound (phillips tv). Didn't want to pay much. This came with a very easy set up, great sound for the money, nice DVD player and even an FM tuner. I am pleased with the product and would recommend to any person on a budget that needs a bit more volume from a HDTV

Spend the extra $40 and puchase a better product

The player has a hard time playing 2 DVDs in a row & takes about 15 minutes to get a DVD to play. Skips on the end of chapters and has difficulty playing afterwards. Other than that, It has good sound quality for the price.

    Good System For The Price

    Posted .

I have this system set up in my bedroom... I purchased this item because I purchased a 26 inch Samsung and the sound quality was horrible on the TV. I also wanted a radio in my room so this was my best option. I like the headphone feature, I use it all the time while my wife sleeps. Its perfect for what I need it for. I wouldnt recommend this product for a big room. You get what you pay for. For the price this system is not bad at all. I did have a problem connecting my ipod through the USB port... The display kept flickering and didnt play my ipod. I did connect the ipod through the Aux input and it works great. Other than that I am very happy with this product

    Poor quality home theater system

    Posted .

I have had to return this Home Theater System to the Best Buy store twice already. The first system we received made a loud noise every time we paused the movie, and in order to fix it, we had to shut the whole thing off and restart it. The second item made lines appear on our HDTV, where the other one had not. Now, out third system, the DVD opener either won't open or close. We've pretty much had to turn the thing upside down to get our rental DVD out of the system. Returning our third system tomorrow, and refusing to accept another Insignia Home Theater System!

    Bad home Theater System

    Posted .

Great little system for the price, BUT after personal experience and reading other reviews I agree that buying this system is a gamble. I had this system set up and working for 4 days and on day 2 the remote sensor on the unit stopped recieving signals from the remote control. I was told that the system was defective and promptly returned it to the store for a refund. Buyer beware.!!!!

    Great For The Price!!!

    Posted .

This is the cheapest thing that you can purchase for the quality. My brother has one in his room and it is not mounted. I have in my room mounted, its seems to sound alot better in my room because the sound bounces off the wall to give you a fuller sound. Bass isn't really that bad when it is mounted. if your worried about the generic brand, just get the 4 year service plan. Your worries are now gone. GREAT FOR A SMALL ROOM!

    Awesome System!

    Posted .

Super system for the money. Got it for $124.99 at Christmas time because it was the lowest cost system with a upconvert dvd player. I am nothing but impressed so far. The HD picture on all my old standard def dvds is super! The upconvert dvd player does a really nice job! Sound is pretty awesome too and easy to hook everything up. I really feel like Im watching a movie at a theater with this system. Awesome!

Bought this for my kid for xmas for his room to go with a 32in lcd, It has great sound for a 10x10 room, works great with his xbox, and dvd player had nice picture with hdmi cord. How ever the usb quit working the first day, and the hdmi quit working half way through a movie. I guess you get what you pay for. Returned and got samsung all in one.
