This item really saved me, and worked like a charm

Bought this product in order to save a hard disc that was originally in a desktop PC system that died. I honestly had nothing to do with the install and set up (thanks, Geek Squad), so I can't offer much in terms of how easy that was to do, but the drive works flawlessly so far (I'm using it only for back up at this point).

Custom computer built years ago crashed, and a lot of the data had not been backed up to external drives. Recovered 4 different hard drives of data. Unfortunately, could not recover IDE drive because this item is not compatible. Did recover sata drives with no problem. Simply plug and play. Pretty cool and fast recovery.

The only problem I have had with this device was when I was first setting it up. Docs said I should use a 3.0 port, but only a 2.0 port works. Once I had it attached to the proper port, every thing else went as smoothly as an Obama speech. Transferring files is a flawless process. Love this product!

I like the fact that it's easy to set up, it's not complicated at all. My only issue with this unit is that it doesn't have a fan so the entire encasing gets pretty hot, and it doesn't go on stand by, I have to turn the unit off if I'm not using it.

I had a hard drive with a dead sector in the user control file, which meant the PC could not be started. However, I had many documents and pictures and the rest of the drive was probably valid. I thought to convert the internal drive to an external one so I could get at the data as a secondary drive. The directions are easy to follow and don't require special tools, only a standard Philips' #2 screwdriver to remove the drive from the PC. The kit had its own screwdriver to put the drive into the sleeve. In minutes I had a functioning, 500Mb external disk drive and saved all of my files. Well worth the money, plus it saved my files.

This closure works as expected. Build is solid and able to get the fast USB 3 speed. Unlike many factory external HDD, this will not cut power to your HDD if you unmount the drive or even switch the computer off. Something for me to remember after leaving the drive running several times.

My main HDD became corrupted. I could not get my PC to recognize it at all. Most of it was backed up but some was not. Once I got a new HDD and got PC set back up I was able to put the old corrupted drive in the enclosure and was then able to retrieve ALL of my files.

I thought my hard drive had malfunctioned, but a GEEK Squad associate told me it was only the casing. An associate found a comparable product to the one the GEEK associate had suggested and told me how to install it. Everything went smoothly, and the hard drive has been working well.

Product comes complete, including small screw driver and mounting screws; easy to assemble, with power supply and cable for connection. Drive worked the first time and continues to work well. However speed is not as expected but am unsure if that is the USB or the just the speed of the drive.

This is a solid aluminum case. Very solid and easy to put the drive in. The only downside is that the case does not have any ventilation and gets quite warm if the disk is used heavily. Would not be the best solution for an always-on external drive, but great for a portable occasional-use drive.

i purchased this case to help on migrating an old hard drive to a new, larger hard drive in my iMac. The iMac doesnt have a USB3 connection, but it worked fine with the USB2 interface. The size is also just right for longer term use. Not too bulky, so it doesn't take up much space on the desk.

took my WD external drive to the Geek Squad and found out the drive was good but the case was bad. They recommended to just get a new case and insert the old drive. They did all the work and it works fine. Thanks to the Geek Squad they save me tons of $$$$ getting this to work. Thanks

It was easy to install the SATA HDD. No cables were necessary, and all screws were included. I would purchase another one (or more) if I needed an HDD enclosure.

I got it to replace one I had that only recognized hard drives up to 2TB. The old one had a sliding lid, that made swapping drives easy and fast - this one requires you to use 4 screws to secure the drive in the enclosure - not a big deal, but...

My 500 GB drive was very easy to mount in the enclosure, and Linux recognized it immediately as another drive. It is very simple to use as a backup device.

I bought this to use with my old computer to transfer to data to my new computer. I needed a PITA and did not realize the difference until I got home. I had to return it to Best Buy but had no trouble in getting my money back. Best Buy does stand by their products.

I recently had a computer crash from recent storms in Texas and I was able to pull all of my important documents and photographs off the hard drive with this gadget. It was a life saver!

my computer failed and I was able to save every bit of info by placing the hard drive in this enclosure and connecting it to my new computer. now using the old hard drive as a back up.

The Insignia Enclosure is easy to use once you toil through the process of dealing with 6 small screws. If you only intend on using one drive and not rotating others, this would be ok. However, I have multiple drives that I wanted to rotate through this enclosure, so the design makes it a hassle. Also, there's no ventilation or internal fan, and this enclosure tends to get exceptionally hot, so I wouldn't advise leaving it on for more than 15 minutes.
