You need the working remote to 'train' this remote to perform functions. Had I known that at the time of purchase, I wouldn't have bought this one. This one was bought to replace my lost working remote. It was a waste of time but I kept it.

This should allow one to input the proper code for the motel tv (lg, sony, samsung, etc.) and operate the tv fully including choosing which source to use.

All functions work with the TV and the programming was so easy. Finding the special button location is taking time to get used to and reading the small characters is a challenge
