    Awesome, easy-to-use TV

    Posted .

I love this TV! The set-up process was so easy, the TV practically set itself up. It walks you through every step, and you basically just need to set your preferences and enter your wifi password. There are tons of channels to choose from, both free and for purchase, as well as games, music, and even Facebook photos and videos. Plus, you can hook up your Xbox and it’ll appear right on your home screen along with all of your other channels so you don’t have to keep switching inputs. The remote is also really easy to use. The buttons are simple, and there are even buttons to bring up specific apps, like Netflix. If you have the Roku app on your phone you can use that as a remote too, which makes searching for movies and shows even easier. The only thing that would make the remote better is having a search button that allows you to search within an app without having to find the app’s search bar. I also love that it’s super light, so that when my roommates and I have girls’ night I can bring it out into the living room for everyone to enjoy. The picture and sound qualities are great, and streaming is just as easy as on my computer, if not easier. I definitely recommend this TV!

    Good for the Price

I was able to get this TV for under $180 while it was on sale and with a coupon. That being said I didn't have the same expectations for it as I would have for a Bravia or Aquos. However, it performs find for what I purchased it for, my dorm room. I purchased a third part remote at the exact moment I saw what the included one was. It is a shame that they would choose to include such a pitiful remote with this TV. I bought a Universal Direct TV remote and it works great. Also, I wish they could have included an Ethernet port for a hard wired connection. For anybody that lives in an apartment or dorm room where wifi can be congested and slow you will experience buffering no matter what you speed is. I don't think the wifi antenna is very strong on this TV. The coaxial hookup is on the back of the TV in a recess pointing down so it is extremely difficult to connect your cord given the small cutout on the back. It has good picture and okay sound, but I use an external sound bar so the speakers are rarely used on this TV. This TV would be find for a child's bedroom or College dorm room but I wouldn't recommend using it as your primary TV . I have attached a picture of the included remote. It is small and can slip between cushions in a couch or be lost behind pillow in a bed, but I recommend using the roku app to turn you phone or tablet into a remote. .

So far so good with this TV. It's an auxiliary monitor and entertainment TV in my at home office and it's serving its purpose well. The built in Roku device is a great feature. Picture quality is excellent and I'd certainly recommend this.

I may not have gotten a huge name brand but I read the reviews and this TV seems to work just as well. I have it set up and working great. It's easy to learn how to use after coming from an old box TV. I like the simplicity of the remote as well. All in all I'm very pleased!

Great for gaming! excellent backlight uniformity!

    Posted .

This is an excellent smart TV! Watching my favorite shows like Breaking Bad and Orange is the new black on the built in Netflix app is fast and easy! I've also had no problems with input lag while playing games like GTA5 and Assassins Creed! There is no backlight bleed! The motion is also great for a 60hz panel! The blacks are good and the colors seem to be fairly accurate! The remote is very simple and small but it gets the job done. This is an excellent TV! A smart TV that's 1080p and has 3 HDMI inputs for this price is a steal!

    Wonderful buy

    Posted .

I purchased 2 recently (July 2015) for my daughters since the TVs they had were over 10 years old and not working properly. The price was what caught my eye, and then to see that Roku is built in with 1080p sealed the deal. Very pleased with the picture and sound quality and the size is just right for their rooms. They love the internet features and there is no need to add a cable/satellite box to their rooms since they enjoy watching Netflix and YouTube.

pkg. carton depicts Roku w/ YouTube but NOT avail.

    Posted .

Decent TV for the money but great disappointed the box package shows Roku display with the YouTube app but it really doesn't offer it. Either its a misrepresentation of a product or they need a patch update. Also, most of the app's need new registrations and have to log on a separate PC, do this, do that, log back onto your TV provider to get this or that. Most of this is garbage programs anyways. Primarily got the TV for a senior, senior..... have to find a program for them every hour because they can't figure the control out.

One of the best priced Smart TVs you can buy

    |
    Posted .

Having purchased a previous 32" Insignia TV a few years ago for a den and being impressed by it's picture quality, I decided to check them out again for another 32", this time for a bedroom. Just happened to noticed this one was on sale at a price cheaper than the previous Insignia I purchased AND also happened to come with the Roku Smart TV platform built-in, and decided to take a chance. And I'm glad I did because it's one of the best Smart TVs I've ever used, as well as one of the easiest, and have since bought another for a second bedroom. Setup was easy and features one of the most well laid out home screens of any Smart TV platform. Picture quality is great, especially at this price range, but the lack of individual color adjustments for red, green, and blue may bother people. In my case, color looks fairly well tuned, especially under the standard picture mode, but you may want to boost the color saturation just a little. Other picture modes tend to vary wildly in both color and contrast. Sound quality was also surprisingly better than expected, since even the major brand names tend to pack such low quality speakers into their TVs so often that sound bars are usually considered a must. For a large family room, you may still need to consider a sound bar if you want a home theater-like experience, but for a bedroom or den the sound quality is perfect. The remote is going to be hit or miss for some people since it's basically a regular Roku media player remote, with only basic media playback controls and no channel number pad. Channels can be selected, but only through an onscreen menu you have to arrow through. This doesn't bother me though since I have neither an antenna or a cable/satellite service and simply use streaming only. Most cable/satellite services also usually provide you with their own remote to use with their set top boxes, and that seems to be what Insignia & Roku are counting on you to use. However, they should consider adding a basic channel number pad in a future revision for antenna users. The Roku platform is incredibly full featured, with plenty of options to mess around with and a large library of streaming channels available. Virtually all of the majors are here, and there is a near endless sea of free channels available to watch. The only missing feature is a web browser, either built-in or third party, and is the only feature that rival Smart TV platforms have that is missing here. Since I have yet to come across a Smart TV web browser that ever provided a decent internet surfing experience, I doubt a Roku web browser would be any better and is therefore not missed. Some would argue that the lack of a web browser means no way to watch the free version of Hulu, which is browser based only. But since browser based Hulu requires Flash, which virtually no Smart TV web browser supports, this would be a moot issue anyway. If necessary, consider an HTPC-style setup or a Windows-based PC stick. The Roku platform also features beta Miracast support, so you could try casting your tablet to this TV for internet surfing and free Hulu viewing if desired. All in all, this is probably one of the best Smart TVs you can get at this price range, with decent picture and sound quality, and a Smart TV platform that's likely to get much longer life support than any of the major name brands would probably provide for their own.

Wonderful smart television for small room

    Posted .

I saw this tv at an affordable cost and my grandma had been needing one. I could afford it so I got it for her because the reviews said it was easy set up and easy use. The color is great, sound is wonderful. My grandma is deaf with out her hearing aids and some sounds interfere with the hearing aids and some sounds aren't picked up and she has has little problem with that with this television. I was worried because she's not good with technology and I had just gotten her a smart television but she love it says it is easy to use and got rid of cable because it has so many other cheaper options! I love the roku technology that is in the television, it is so easy to use and understand. Bonus is you can get an app on your phone and if connected to same Wi-Fi you can control your tv from your phone and have a keyboard to type things in. I would definitely tell everyone to get this tv it was a wonderful purchase!

    Amazing upgrade from previous Insignias

    |
    Posted .

I sought to buy the exact same Insignia TV model as the one I already own from back in 2008 with the exception of an upgrade from 720p to 1080p. I fully expected the only difference between the TVs to be an increase in resolution, but boy was I wrong in so many ways. The advances made since 2008 to the Insignia TV's is astonishing and makes me embarrassed for keeping that old model around. The 2008 32" Insignia TV weighed over 40lbs and created a great amount of heat that made it hard to keep it on for too long. I am so overwhelmingly surprised at how pleased I am with this TV. It is ~10lbs, easily mounted to my wall using a RocketFish tilting mount, and can be lifted with one hand if needed, probably even mounted with some heavy duty command strips it's that light weight. I think it's important to also note the amazement I found in it's introducing me to Roku. I 100% DID NOT BUY THIS for the Roku or smart TV features. I have an Apple TV and cable and thought the Roku would be nothing but a nuisance. I was so incredibly wrong. As it turns out, Roku is much more user friendly and efficient at streaming than the Apple TV. I never thought I'd prefer a non-apple product over an Apple product but now I don't even have the apple TV plugged in and I can't remember the last time I used it. This TV works with my home wireless much more efficiently than Apple TV is able to. I had absolutely no intention of using the Roku feature, I selected this exact TV because it was discounted because it was missing the stand that comes with it, the box had been opened to give the stand to another customer. I knew I wanted to mount it anyway. purchased this model because the product was discounted more than other options. I feared that the Roku feature would just slow me down in the TV setup process but it provides beautiful graphics and so many more options than my cable on demand service can provide.

Smart Saving On Cable TV Bill With Noticeable Cons

    |
    Posted .

This Smart TV was purchased with the idea being that it would be able to replace my family's old box TV and that we would be able to use the internet with it to search online for things on Google etc.(Hence Smart). This was soon found to be incorrect. It can NOT connect to your computer without an extension like ChromeCast and can NOT search Google etc. on its own What it CAN do, however, is wonderful. It delivers a high quality picture and is in a thin form with easy to follow setup instructions. You can watch a large number of channels(which you can google) like Netflix, Youtube, Flixster, Popcorn Flix, Vimeo, Pandora, and PBS to name a few. The channels are in 1080p but not all videos are shown full screen, some are shown in only part of the screen, and while there are a lot of options to customize things like color and brightness, the resolution can not be increased to full screen or decreased to take up less of the screen. There is a movie mode but the difference is negligible. As a college student, I really enjoy watching my favorite Youtube channels on full 1080p display full screen. I do NOT like the Youtube's lack of ability to go to a specific time though! The sound is great and picks up on a lot more bass than I expected. It's loud and comes out the back of the TV which makes it so that my family can be moving things from the living room and the kitchen(behind the TV) and still hear what is being played on TV! My Mom loves playing Pandora and leaving Pandora on to play music while she works in the kitchen. Others may value privacy and not find that to be a feature as much as a nuisance. My family loves it. The controller itself is much smaller than the Verizon controller I'm used to, so I was quite skeptical of it at first. I surprisingly found it to be much more comfortable for me to hold, even though I have rather large hands. The fast forward and rewind buttons work very well, with great response times with each and every command I give, noticeably better than the Verizon Controller's response time. This also accepts input from your Cable Box, DVD Player, etc. and we used it with our Verizon Cable Box and got a noticeably improved picture and sound quality(which is to be expected) although the cable for cable was REALLY hard to screw in. If we had just a bit more room for our large hands it would've been a lot easier. Do also note that you have to pay for quite a few channels, do some google searching on Roku Channels to understand what you are and aren't getting without paying subscriptions. The subscriptions are heavily discounted in comparison to Cable prices for the same channels. It really saves a LOT of money versus cable, easily allowing it to pay for itself. -1 Star for not having searching online nor the ability to connect to my computer natively. -1 More Star for not having resolution changing options and for YouTube's lack of ability to go straight to a desired time in a video without constantly hitting and holding fast forward. If I want to go to 40:00 I shouldn't have to hold it for three minutes! I didn't take a star off for other flaws as they were not as huge and we were still able to use the cable box's cable, it just took a LONG time to get it screwed in properly. Honestly, it is 3/5 Average for today's standards. If this was out during the time of our previous TV I would be willing to give it 4/5, but still not 5/5 because it isn't perfect and has noticeable flaws, many of which can be improved. I would recommend this to a friend for the reasons of it having great picture and video quality. It essentially pays for itself and the Youtube video watching is great. The streaming of various films and TV shows is wonderful, with Popcorn Flix having a slight problem with the audio and video being desynced when resuming from commercial. The fix was to just rewind and start again, thus losing nothing other than a negligible amount of time to fix the small desync. Overall, really nice price and surprisingly great quality in the built in audio. Few complaints, all of which not everyone will even encounter. Not too bad for my first Smart TV. Not too bad at all.
