Efficient Cooling for Small to Medium Rooms

The Insignia 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner works well for cooling bedrooms, offices, or smaller living spaces up to about 350 sq. ft. Setup is straightforward, and the included window kit makes installation quick. It cools the room fast and keeps the temperature consistent, even on hot days.
The unit is a bit noisy on higher fan settings, but that’s expected with most portable ACs. The portability is a plus you can roll it between rooms easily, and it doesn’t take up too much space.
Overall, it’s a solid option for anyone looking for an affordable and reliable portable AC to beat the heat.

Fantastic product! Very easy to install, and cools up a pretty decent sized room quickly. It’s slightly heavy but it thankfully has wheels so that’s a great benefit!

Let me just say up front. I like this product. I liked it enough that I have three of them now. I bought the first one 3 months ago.
This wasn't my first choice. The fact is window units are cheaper. But not everybody has double hung or single hung windows. Some of us have sliding windows and that's a real hassle with a window unit. The way the exhaust is designed on this unit makes it really simple to fit into any window. At least anyone that I can imagine. If they gave you enough pieces, you could actually adapt it into a sliding door. Something to think about. The unit is well built and can be moved around on its casters without worrying about breaking it. The installation is super simple. The instructions are well done. As long as you follow the directions and keep the unit away from walls so that it can get some fresh air, it works wonderfully. Personally, I have zero complaints.
There are a few things to be aware of. One, when it kicks on it pulls a significant amount of amps momentarily and can make your lights flicker. Two, the unit needs to be kept away from walls so that it can get fresh air. Three, you can't stuff it in a corner and expect it to work well. And finally the exhaust is hot so try to put it in a window that is not blowing onto something that you don't want cooked.
Overall, I'm really happy with these units and would have no issue purchasing more of them in the future.

I've had this air conditioner for 2 weeks. When I first got it, they told me to keep it upright for 90 mins min. I did and it leaked out over 5 gallons after I ran it. Since, it has been running very well. It keeps my entire 500 sqft apt cool and even cold if I leave it on. It only has very little condensation now. It is extremely heavy, so if you can, make sure you have someone help you bring it into your home.
Also, my sales' rep was absolutely phenomenal. He was so kind, and attentive. He listened to my needs, he made sure to clarify and give his opinion and information on how to use it and what to do when setting it up. It weighed a whole lot, and he put it in my car for me. I love that type of customer service. It is very refreshing to be treated with respect and dignity.

If central air isn't in your future, this unit should be. There isn't much assembly needed and it is small enough (and on wheels) to fit in any tight space. The unit is heavy so you may need two people to unbox. It immediately begins cooling the air when powered on. It's a little lound but worth it when the temp in your home starts to reach 80+ degrees. The cool air covers a wide area.

The installation was very easy and this included everything you need. The plastic and house materials were good quality and seem like they will last a long time.
The functions work well and the controls are easy to navigate. The remote control is very nice and has all the controls included on it as well. There is a small screen on it that shows you the live status of the air conditioner and it also doubles as a thermostat which is nice because you can place it across the room and the air conditioner reads the room temperature wherever it is.
The printed manual was very complete and detailed.
My only gripe would be the noise level of this while it is cooling. The fan isn't bad but the compressor is louder and sometimes sounds like buzzing. I expected noise but when I'm in the room sometimes I have to pause the cooling. If it had more BTUS it wouldn't have to run as long to achieve the same temperature.

over all, cold air flow works great for small spaces like a living room or bedroom, keeps the room cool on the hottest part of the day when my house AC can’t keep up. only issue i encountered is i had to buy hose lengthening parts from Home Depot because the hoses that it came with did not reach the area of my house i needed it in. has been running about once or twice a week when im home and electric is still the same and i have not had to empty the water collection since i bought it (3 months). it is also on the heavier side but the bottom wheels make it a bit easier to maneuver. has a remote feature where you can schedule when to turn off and turn in the ac so you can have it blowing before you even get home. set up was fairly easy to follow, did look
up a youtube video with similar instructions since i’m a visual learner

The summers keep getting hotter and hotter so I purchased this portable ac unit in the hopes of keeping my bedroom cool enough to sleep at night. My bedroom is about 150sqft but I’ve heard portable ac units in general aren’t as efficient so I bought the 350sqft model with 8000 btu’s.
The unit does okay… it does help to cool down the room but it takes longer than I thought it would. My bedroom has west facing walls/windows and the unit struggles with temperatures over 95 outside.
The air it produces in ‘cool’ mode isn’t as cold as I expected, even when the compressor kicks on, which I think also contributes to it taking longer to cool the room.
For example, at about 90 degrees outside, inside room temp is at 85, humidity around 40%, it takes the unit 2-3 hours to cool the room down by about 10 degrees to 75.
I live in the PNW so we have some humid days but nothing like the south or east coast. I had the machine on maybe 3-4 hours for 5-7 days and after that I checked the drain and there was about a quarter to half cup of water to drain out. The unit is quite heavy (so if you have to haul it up the stairs like I did, be careful) and you do have to tip it in order to get all the water out. It was cumbersome so for an area with high humidity and having to drain it all the time it could be a real pain.
Noise level: When it has just the fan on I would equate it to a floor fan on high. When the compressor is on it’s like a hotel ac wall unit. Not ideal. I’m a picky sleeper and unfortunately I can’t sleep with this on, it’s just too loud. But if you’re the type of person who falls asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow it probably won’t be a problem.
Overall, I’m glad I have it for those hot days since I don’t have central air and my condo doesn’t allow window units, but for a machine that claims it’s good for 350 sqft and yet it can sometimes struggle to cool a 150sqft bedroom, I was hoping it would be more efficient.

The Insignia Portable Air Conditioner is a reliable and efficient cooling solution, perfect for small to medium-sized rooms. With its easy-to-use digital controls and multiple fan speeds, it provides customizable comfort. The unit's portability is a major plus, allowing you to move it from room to room with ease. The built-in dehumidifier is a great feature, helping to reduce humidity levels, making the air feel cooler and more comfortable. The unit is relatively quiet, even at higher fan speeds, making it ideal for use in bedrooms or offices. Additionally, the installation process is straightforward, and the included window venting kit is simple to set up. Overall, the Insignia Portable AC offers excellent value for its price, providing effective cooling and convenience.

This was a wonderful purchase worked very very very well. Outstanding. I did have to return it only because it was against some rules of where I am living. I would and will recommend and buy one of these down the road. How ever the only down side to this unit is it takes up space within the room as it’s not a wall or window unit but it works flawlessly and the ability to move aim and shift it in almost any direction is a plus to have it.

This worked well for my 275 sq. ft. apartment. It's recommended for a 350 sq. ft. apartment, but going for the extra power was worth it and advisable. It kept me cool through the hottest parts of summer. Very affordable compared to the competitors. Easy to maintain. Just know that these portable units don't really do much for adjacent rooms with doorways. I would recommend.

Great product! It literally saved us in the summer! It was very easy to install on the window and to operate. We have an open concept living room and dining/kitchen area and it was cool and the air was comfortable all around. Our apartment is rather big so we are considering getting a smaller one for the rest of the rooms. It is easy to store and move around as it has wheels. No more heavy, uncomfortable window air conditioners.

I like the design. It’s not my favorite air conditioner although it cools very well. It’s loud so I have to blast the tv to cover the noise from it. It will shut off and come on according to the temperature which would be great if it wasn’t so loud. Unfortunately at night it wakes me up. When I picked it up I asked a representative before I left the store with it if it was an air conditioner that needed to be drained. I was told no but when I got home positioned the window fixings for it I realized it had to be drained. The way it was packaged I didn’t see the hose immediately. The only reason I didn’t return it was because it was very heavy and an extreme inconvenience. I will say it does what it’s meant to do, cool. I just wish I would’ve went with my first choice in another product that’s quieter. Overall if the loudness isn’t a concern, I would say it’s a great bargain and it will do the job.

This thing pumps out the cold and the remote is very handy. It compliments our main AC and makes the bedroom chilly like a hotel room! Its also real handy when the apartment AC goes out. The reason for 4 stars is the adhesive insulation strips it comes with just fall apart, leaving a rented apartments window looking really gross. You may want to find another solution
