I have had a Midea u shaped ac in my Amazon cart for a month now. The price was raised and has been out of stock for 2 weeks now. Never even thought to look at Best Buy. This is the exact same as that model, minus WiFi but is $60 cheaper. Now I knew it was going to be quiet but wow, this thing is almost silent. all you can hear is the fan. my Lg portable ac was so loud that I would only run if totally necessary. Note that specs say that maximum size of window it will fit is 36" wide. My window is 42" wide. It will fit, you just have to rig it. Otherwise this ac is great. It is super quiet, cools well and even has a dehumidifier. Since it is an inverter unit, the compressor and fan can run at a low speed. which will remove humidity but not cool down the room. Highly recommend. One negative is that the unit was dented. It worked so I decided just to keep it.

Nice alternative to standard window units with DIY

I live in a hot and humid southern state where it's 90 degrees or higher all summer with high humidity. My central air cannot keep up! This unit helps significantly during hot days - and the dehumidifier function can quickly drop humidity from 75% to 50% by cooling the air. I installed this unit in a second story window. The installation was surprisingly easy as I just needed to climb on the roof once in order to remove the storm window and to make sure the braces were secure - you can install without going outside, though, and it is very simple. * One issue is that the unit vibrates heavily when the engine ramps up. This can be a big issue as it can resonate with the window or even the house thus causing an intense vibration throughout the wall. When first installed, I could feel this vibration downstairs as well as hear it on the other side of the top floor. I was able to fix this by purchasing some additional foam strips and putting them between the window and the unit as well as between the unit and the support brace. Now it is a little loud as it ramps up but it's still much quieter than the standard units. The unit can also be removed easily during the cooler seasons - you will just need to get more sealing strips to reinstall the unit next summer. Like most window units it is ugly on the house so it is nice to be able to remove easily when not necessary. Also you will need to deal with some light bleeding through the bottom of the unit where it meets the windowsill - and you might need to find some better curtains.

    Perfect for my bedroom!

This unit is a little workhorse. My compressor on my heat pump is dying slowly, and repairman said that because my whole outside unit is 15 years old it should be replaced. I just cannot afford that at this time. I live in south Arkansas and we have been experiencing 104+ degree days and high humidity, so I had to do something! I jumped online and ordered this unit for my bedroom and a portable unit for my niece’s room, then sent my niece and her friend to Texarkana to pick it up. My bedroom is approximately 300 sq ft. It took about 1.5 hours to read directions, gather tools and install. It was not difficult at all. What I really like about this unit is the ability to almost completely close your window further aiding in keeping all the cool air inside. All of my windows have a piece on each side of the window that, when depressed, does not allow the window to be raised more than about 6” Because of the U-shape design, I was still able to use this little bit of added security! The first night of use, I set it on 60 degrees as soon as we got it installed. I woke up around 2 am and had to turn it up because I was quite chilly. When I built the house I had them use the spray foam for insulation, so i am sure that helps with the overall comfort this unit is providing. I have been using it now for a little over a week and I could not be happier! During the day if I am at home I keep it on about 65-68 degrees, but when I’m gone I set it on 70-75 degrees and it’s pleasant when I come home. It does not take it long at all to drop it to 65 degrees. You can’t go wrong if you choose this window air conditioner!

I purchased a Midea 8,000 BTU U shaped air conditioner and I wanted another one for my mother but it was all sold out at Home Depot. This air conditioner is almost identical to the midea, with the same temperature controls and the same materials. Same easy setup. There is a slight price difference, this is cheaper and about 3inches smaller length wise and slightly taller. It’s pretty much the same thing, so if your looking for a silent, freezing, air conditioner just like the Midea, then you should buy this.

I bought one to try it out and like it so much that about a second. Our old window unit was noisy and we have to turn it off while watching television, only to turn it back on when the room got too hot. With this U-shaped window unit you can have the best of both worlds by keeping the AC all the time. It has a sleep button to save energy overnight while automatically coming back online in the morning the bracket was easy to install and adjust to make level. It feels very secure and keeps our living room cool. Basically unnoticeable.

2 hour installation but so worth it. This is a quiet unit. Cools a room quickly on Dry mode (dehumidifier). Has a swing panel for air flow circulation. Works great in an 800 sq foot space. Remote is easy to use.

This 4 star rating is specifically for this open-box item I bought. The condition stated excellent but it was clearly used a lot, a vent was broken and it was missing the remote, far from excellent. This is the second time I buy the exact same model, except that was new and they work amazing and are so quiet as well. Both purchases came with everything I needed to mount them on my window sill. Which is a great plus. Highly recommend, but be open to open box, this one even with it's issues, works very well.

We upgraded our old window ac from a 6000 BTU that was horribly leaking to this 8000 btu one right before the heatwave and I’m so thankful we did. The entire house is SO much cooler & the air feels less muggy in general. It honestly reminds me of having a real air conditioner. Also I’ve noticed the air in our place just smells fresher now too. As far as the unit it’s modern looking and has a remote which I love, it also came with a mounting thing which was easy to install (took me and my bf about 35 mins to install everything.) How this works is basically it’s split where your window goes in between the unit; the fan portion of it is inside and the rest of it (where the hot air is released) is outside of the window. I also like that’s it’s energy efficient because we’ve tried to upgrade in the past and our power ended up shutting down but we’ve had 0 issues with this happening with this one. As far as the price I think it’s fair for the quality of the unit, we used klarna to buy it online and did store pickup and it was ready within a day. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the market for a new AC, it was so worth it!

I love this AC! Installation was very easy and I fill more secured that it wouldn’t fall of my window. It makes my room cold fast and doesn’t make a loud noise. And I love that I can still access the half upper part of my window. Over all I’m very satisfied with this AC

This is a very quiet, powerful AC. Not so easy to install - you need skillful hands. Pay attention to the instruction. AC must have an outward slope. Water supposed to evaporate. Next day delivery by FedEx in Brooklyn. Thank you, seller! Highly recommend!

_____ Pros: -Good-looking design. Blends well inside my bedroom. -Not too heavy. -Straightforward installation. -VERY quiet. -The room gets cooled down quickly. -Comes with useful features, such as timers, Eco mode, and Sleep mode. -Energy Star certification. -Easy-access filter. _____ *Neutral: -The installation is more complicated and takes much longer than non-U-shaped windows ACs. -The remote control buttons feel spongy and wobbly. -The AC unit responds slowly to remote control commands. _____ *Cons: -None The 8000-BTU Insignia windows AC is a great investment for those living in hot areas like me in southern California. The Insignia is replacing my ~17-yo windows AC from Kenmore and it’s been an upgrade in every category – better-looking, much quieter, chillier, and with more functions. The installation steps, which is quite long, seemed very daunting at first. Compared to my previous windows AC unit, which wasn’t a U-shaped one, there are more parts to set up and configure, such as the mounting bracket that goes outside the house and rests on the wall. Completing the installation took me about five hours (including removing the old windows AC unit, vacuuming the carpet, and cleaning the walls) but none of them were particularly difficult. I already owned all the tools needed for the job, including a levelling device. Once installed, I was delighted by how quiet it was. Even at the maximum blow setting, the Insignia unit was quieter than the old Kenmore’ lowest setting. Despite how quietly the machine operated, the air blew fast, and cold air filled up my bedroom quickly. This was a BIG welcome because I still work from home and my coworkers don’t have to get distracted by a loud and buzzy AC unit. Whereas it was difficult to fall asleep with my old AC unit, I had no trouble with the Insignia when set to its low setting. In other words, this Insignia is great for light sleepers and those sensitive to noise. The only negative I can think of is the remote control. Although the layout is simple and the buttons are well spaced apart, the rubber buttons are soft and wobbly. Also, there’s a slightly annoying delay before the AC unit will accept a command, such as the timer function or when switching between modes. With that said, I still really like my new Insignia windows AC and I’m glad I finally replaced my old one. Doing so has immediately upgraded my quality of life due to the unit’s quietness, fast chilling power, timer functions, and Energy Star-rated certification that saves me money by lowering the electricity bill. 5 stars.

First, I appreciate the Insignia 350 Sq. Ft. 8,000 BTU U-Shaped AC system for including all the hardware required to install the window unit, such as the Window Mounting Kit. Including the Window Kit is the first time I have seen that, saves up $80+. Not only is it included it is well built, extremely sturdy in all aspects. Kudos to Insignia! Impressed with attention to detail throughout the whole system, design/engineering, build quality, paint that will last lifetime of unit, extremely well written User Guide!, window insultation materials are tops, to including window locking systems for security. Unit is a totally new design to me having U-shape for brilliant installation where sliding windows separate the compressor unit from the fan housing and air outlets. Compressor unit is completely outside behind the window! Having the window separate the two sides of the unit allows vastly improved insulation factors and exceptionally quiet operation. Fact is the unit is whisper quiet, love it. Split unit also allows the window to provide extra strength in securing unit. Performance is right on the numbers for an 8000 BTU A/C, perfect for 350-400 square feet rooms. Personally, I have installed my unit in a detached 625 sq. ft. two car garage that has a loft ceiling insulation factor of R40+ and walls insulated with R7. Previously only had one window unit which could not cool the building in high temperatures, with the addition of the Insignia it was cool magic. Operation of the unit is simple and straight forward from either control panel or remote. Remote has good range, pleased I can stand at my work bench on opposite side of garage and turn on/off and manage A/C setting. After steady use the last two weeks have found the unit performs remarkably well and exceeded my expectations. Having a comfortably cool garage works for me! Own rentals and have about twenty window A/C units in inventory and can attest this system is by far quieter than any of our other units and the new design I believe is a game changer in window A/C units. If you are looking for a A/C unit that is cutting edge design, whisper quiet, made to last, looks good and includes every possible item for installation for wood or windows vinyl I highly recommend to you give the Insignia a look

So far I'm impressed! Didn't have too many units to choose from that could keep our ground floor window secure. Was concerned because it wasn't a familiar name brand, but it turned out to cool faster, using less energy than it's competitors. I would definitely recommend & would buy more of their units when necessary. Installation took some effort but it was worth it!
