Excellent Medium-Large TV for the Price

Insignia is probably the best brand for this type of product when considering value compared to cost. At the time I purchased, it was selling for about $200, which is plenty cheap enough to justify the purchase. I'll try not to make this a review of Fire TV, but, suffice to say, Fire TV is definitely the best remote based solution for smart TVs. The interface is clean, functional, and pleasant to use, and the Alexa remote might seem like a bit of a gimmick at first, but make no mistake, the search and command functions are fairly robust, and the voice recognition is surprisingly solid. Not to mention there are a number of little quality of life features with Amazon Video in particular that are very impressive in this format. You want to know what the name of that actor is, maybe some more movies they've been in? You can see it in the pause menu. Really good stuff. The TV itself is also pretty strong as a contender. The size is 39" and 1080p, which is pretty standard, but not a given for the price point, with the picture being clear and colors being surprisingly competent. There are a number of display options. I would suggest using the "Natural" preset and turning contrast and backlight on high. While the image processing features are nice to have, they're not exactly great, and they tend to get in the way more than not, at least for digital content where the process is wholly unnecessary. For analog content, noise reduction might come in handy. There are of course options to adjust colors and what not as you see fit. An adequate number of ports and connections, at 3 HDMI's with an AUX jack or an Optical for speakers. The 3 HDMI's might be a deal breaker for you depending on how many devices you have, but considering that this is a smart TV, it'll likely free up at least some space on the back panel by virtue of that alone. Only real criticism is some slight and occasional issues with the software. It's pretty clear that the processor in the TV isn't the best, scrolling through menus isn't perfectly smooth or anything, but the key is that it is comfortably functional, and its certainly not choppy enough to warrant any serious criticism. The last thing might not be a common problem, but I noticed that, within a few weeks of purchase, the audio had randomly started to fall out of sync with the picture. After a restart (not a factory reset, just a full restart), the issue was resolved, and it hasn't happened sense. So, even if it is a persistent issue, it seems to be an easily resolved one. I would give it a 4.5, but I can't. It's a great TV if you want to pick up a solid Medium-Large size TV for a small living room or bedroom

    NOT LOGICAL

Bought this TV for my mom to use. Picture and sound was good and better than our old Westinghouse that was being replaced. 3 complaints: 1. Ads from Amazon are annoying. Could maybe live with it, but we shouldn't have to. 2. No numbers on remote. I thought the smaller size of remote would be worth the sacrifice but I found the lack of numbers not very intuitive. 3. For Antenna TV, the channel guide does NOT display the channel number. Instead, it only lists the station name (i.e. ABC, NBC, KDOC). I called Insignia support to ask if I could change the display setting somehow since it was not mentioned in the User Guide. The specialist was very helpful and mentioned many other consumers having the same problem. As of now there is no solution but there "could" be an update in the future to allow channel numbers to be displayed. I returned this TV for this reason alone. My mom was having a very hard time finding her favorite channels that she knew the numbers to. I shouldn't have to log into my Amazon account just so that she could ask Alexa to turn to a channel for her. *Be aware that Alexa voice control only works if you have an Amazon account! Having a channel guide that cannot display channel number does not seem intuitive or logical. What a waste of an otherwise great TV at a great price. Best Buy was very helpful when I brought it back to exchange for a different TV.

In total I have purchased 4 of these over the last couple of months, 3 branded as Toshiba and this one branded Insignia. They are the exact same, obviously made by same manufacturer to same specs. One 43 inch I had no issues. The 32 I bought twice. Returned the first, broke the screen on the second trying to get it to not do the same issue as the first and finally bought this Insignia 39 inch. To a degree they all have the same problem. As you are watching over the air broadcast the unit leaves the station and returns to the schedule. First unit did it a lot, second less but still annoying plus on this one the optical connection was not functional. With this most recent unit it has only once jumped off the station so far. We will see. If you get a good one you will love this tv. Easy set-up and the integration with Fire tv is perfect. Great picture, OK sound on the 43 and 39 inch. Got a sound bar for the 32. I did also add a sound bar on the 39 but only because I had it, you could do without. You might miss numbers on your remote but that is the trend these days.p and you will get used to it. Why did I keep trying the same tv? When it works right it’s awesome, and you cannot beat the price. I like my fire tv’s better than my $3,000.00 setup in my family room.

When this TV was purchased, I just needed a replacement TV. But with the good price, I felt that having FireTV was going to be a bonus. 1) When this TV is turned on it goes immediately to its home page and you still need to tell Alexa to change to TV; it should go immediately to TV. 2) The TV randomly decides to return to its home page in the middle of watching a show, which then requires you to once again ask Alexa to tune the your TV station. This happened at key plot moments on a couple of shows and is unacceptable. 3) The TV would occasionally turn off in the middle of a show, and you would then need to turn it back on, and ask Alexa to tune back to your show. 4) If your internet is down, the TV does not work. Alexa needs to interact with the Internet to decode your instructions. 5) The remote has no numbers, so you cannot change channels without Alexa. This was unacceptable. I have returned the TV for credit and replaced it with a Samsung.

I got this TV on sale for $130. First off, I wasn’t expecting much of it since it’s cheap and not a big name brand but it surpassed all expectations. It has a great picture and the smart tv capability is very responsive. I’m able to connect this tv via wifi so easy and fast. The remote control it came with have direct buttons for Netflix, HBO, Prime video and PS Vue which is so awesome when you’re just in a hurry to get to those apps right away so I can watch movies or series I’m following. The remote control also have built it microphone so I can command it to search or play music or videos for me. The sound on this tv also surpassed my expectations. I thought I’m going to need to buy separate speakers for this tv so I can turn up the volume higher but wow... even the sound on this tv is great. For the price I paid for this tv I’d say this is an awesome deal! I got way so much more for less $$. I’m a very happy customer. Would definitely recommend this tv to anyone specially if you’re in a budget.

This set is actually 34 5/8 inches wide, not 34.8. I needed a set to fit a 34.75" space and this is it unless you go smaller size. Set up was OK, but then I am only using it for cable and a DVD player; none of the other things. Really miss having a paper manual with it. Worked fine for two days, then could not use remote to switch between DVD & Cable unless I turned TV off. Home screen would come up, but could not navigate with remote. The remote will turn TV on and off. Called customer service and spent 45 minutes or so trying to soft and hard "reboot" the remote and the TV. Didn't work, so new remote is in the mail. Turned on TV and now cannot select either DVD or cable. Remote still turns it on and off, but that is it. Pulled out my faithful 28" LG to use until new remote arrives. Keeping fingers crossed this will solve problem and not recur. Really miss old TV's that had basic buttons on TV for manual operation. E.G., input 1, 2, 3, volume up/down Also, it does not pair well with Spectrum/Charter remotes. Can turn it on or off, but that is it. So far the picture seems good, but naturally sound is mediocre. Planned to get an AccuVoice 203 when BestBuy gets them in.

This is hands down the worst TV I've ever purchased. No matter how many times I've tried to register the device to my Amazon account it simply will not show as a registered device - which means I can't use my CBS All Access that I bought through Prime, and I can't watch any Amazon purchases. I ended up just canceling CBS through Prime and buying it standalone to use on the app. And Hulu... This TV will crash repeatedly if you try to watch Hulu Live. There will be days where it only resets a handful of times while watching, but most of the time it crashes and resets multiple times per every half hour. Any text that is on the screen without a background image will glitch out the screen (which usually ends up with the TV freezing and resetting). This TV is a secondary TV for me, so much of this did not become apparent until after the return period was up. I would absolutely not recommend this TV to anyone. I have a Roku version of this TV that works much better. If I could trade this crappy TV out for a Roku version, I would in a second.

    Inconvenient and frustrated

I just bought a new tv after 7 years. While the picture is clearer, it fails to meet my expectations in very crucial ways of my daily use. 1. Picture setting. The picture is too bright at night (it hurts my eyes) so I want to lower the light. I have to press the home button, which loses the current picture and moves to the home page, then I have to go to setting, choose the input and adjust it. During the day, it is too dark, so I have to repeat this again. And I have to do this every time. There is no short cut I can set so I have to do this adjustment every time. It is so inconvenient and frustrating. 2. I mostly use a TV with HDMI like apple tv. With my TV before, if I turn off the tv, the input stays on HDMI after I turn it back on. With this TV, every time I turn it on, it resets the channel (input) so I have to scroll down and choose HDMI again. Every time. It is SO FRUSTRATING. I miss my old TV. It was simple and easy. This TV is not smart.

I just upgraded to this 39" Insignia HD 1080p Fire TV. On a scale of 1-10 I'm about a 7 when it comes to technology and I was able to set it up, connect it to the router, cable box and Blu-ray player in about 20 min. I am VERY happy with the color and definition of the picture. It's a smart TV and makes streaming very easy. I want to mention that you need to find the setting on the TV to change the resolution to the highest possible resolution (1080hi in my case). Mine was set on 720 which was the resolution from my old TV. I bought new HDMI cables and they didn't really make a difference in the resolution, but changing the resolution setting in the TV to 1080 really did make a difference! especially when watching cable. Didn't seem to make much difference when watching a blu-ray. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and am enjoying my new TV!

I have this tv in my room, it’s a pretty good size, and the picture is pretty good as well. I like that you can talk to Alexa. My only complaint is sometimes the screen will freeze up and turn black, sometimes the picture will pop right back in other times you have to turn the tv off and back on. I mean it’s not really a major issue it’s just annoying to keep doing that. I lie the tv for myself personally but I don’t think I will be purchasing another fire tv anymore, their are other little things I don’t like about it also but I put up with it. It’s really up to you if you want to deal with the little things the tv does. (Given the past difficulties I had with the Best Buy here in Tallahassee FL (on Apalachee Parkway) I just chose to deal with it and not worry about boxing it back up and trying to get something different.

I purchased this TV to replace an older flat screen in my bedroom that had died. This TV is great value for the money, I have it hooked up to a HD antenna which allows good viewing of network channels when the signal is good (mostly good on all networks) I also have it hooked up to Wi-Fi which is tremendous for Netflix, Amazon and web apps such as youtube. The remote has no numbers so to change the channel you just press the microphone button and say change to channel 7 which the TV responds with a verbal changing to channel and then promptly changes, I am still experimenting with all of the features. So overall I am very pleased I purchased this TV

Overall, this is a great TV, the picture quality is excellent, the appearance of the TV is nice, it's thin and easy to wall mount. There are a few negatives though... 1st is the remote, it's more like a Amazon firestick remote than it is a actual TV remote. 2nd is the absence of manual controls on the TV, so basically if you misplace the remote, you can't do ANYTHING with the TV (besides turn it on). 3rd is the "app store" is quite limited, and if you use the "Spectrum App" you are going to be unhappy because it's not currently supported on the Fire TV (we use a ROKU stick to get our Spectrum App).

The picture is good. Sound is weak. Ok for some I suppose. Got the Tv for $129, and the Insignia soundbar for $59. The soundbar sounds great on standard mode. Overall works fine. Fits perfectly in the entertainment center. Some problems that get irritating. Occasionally the screen starts flashing green, or briefly blacking out on Sling Tv (yah, were slingers!). I've wondered if appliances interfere. I just back out and re-enter the channel I was watching (usually CNN). Also, I use a powered antenna but this tuner must be weaker because it pixelates often. Working fine now. Maybe weather? I had returned the 1st Tv because of green flashing screen and Geek thought might be a bad screen, but it still happens on the 2nd Tv. I recommend only because I like how it interfaces and so cheap.

I absolutely love everything about it. However when I first saw the remote I was shocked it didn't have the usual layout. No numbers or an input option. So I wouldn't recommend this TV for someone who doesn't have patience with electronics due to the fact that when you turn it on you will have to go back to what channel or input you last had it on. Your home screen layout is your movies, apps, settings. You even have the option to just tell Alexa to go to a channel. My 8 yr old figured it out in minutes. It also has Bluetooth so I'm sure there's more options I haven't had the pleasure of playing with yet. The clarity is beautiful. The apps I'm able to install fits my lifestyle perfectly.

This tv would just cut off on its own while I was watching. I would turn it back on but it would cut off again. This happen too many times to count. It was very frustrating and annoying. I noticed it would cut off a lot while I was using the sling tv app. The screen would also turn light green at random times during commercials. I also heard a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds while the tv was on on several occasions. I had this tv in my possession for only 10 days and had all these problems from the first day of watching. The reviews seemed mixed. Some people got a good tv some didn’t. I do not recommend this tv to anyone. I returned it and bought the trusted brand Samsung model NU6070.

Best buy had the best price, friendly staff and great tvs. I bought one and was so pleased that I went today and bought another. The money I am saving by lowering my cable bill will pay for these two tv sets in three months. I have learned and am continuing to learn about the new technologies and am enjoying shows that I thought I would never be able to afford!! I am a senior who lives on a social security check alone. No help with bills, so I have denied myself expensive cable packages. I now have two televisions and more movies and tv shows than I ever thought possible. Thank you, LORD!

Certainly a nice tv for the price. However, it will not allow you to manually program over the air channels that may have not been picked up through the channel scan, or will it allow you to rescan to add channels. Every time you run the channel scan it starts from scratch. I guess they don't understand that many people need to use an antenna rotor and if the antenna is not pointing the right direction, the channel scan will not pick up all the channels. If you turn then antenna to pick up the other channels, you'll lose the channels in the other direction. I hope maybe they will have a firmware update to address this. If you have an antenna with a rotor, you probably do not want this TV.

This would have been a 5-star review, were it not for a bad software update and useless support. I set this up for my 80-year old parents. I set the power on preference to "Last Input". I connected the HDMI1 port to the cable box. All was right with the world. Now, that setting is now longer honored. I spent 45 minutes on the phone teaching them how to navigate the home and settings menus to verify the power on preference. Then we switched it to Home and then back to Last Input to try to get the TV to start behaving. No dice. Now, no matter what, they have to put down the cable remote, pick up the TV remote, and select the HDMI1 port after powering on just to watch cable. Piece of unreliable garbage.

We just wanted an inexpensive 39" TV, a size that seemed hard to find. Did not need Smart, or Fire. I did not realize that this TV is controlled by Bluetooth and Internet and Alexa. No channel buttons on its remote. And it took me an hour with a very patient Insignia Customer Service to figure out how to program the FireTV to accept control by our cable remote. I dread the possibility of the FireTV getting some info or update from the Internet that might disturb the settings. The FireTV is probably fine for someone who knows what it is, but I had no idea what I was getting into and wish the salesman had warned me.

The picture on this television is good, and that's about the only good thing. Switching between HDMI and anything else is terrible. The volume must be turned way up for HDMI so when you go to something else, the sound is outrageously high and shocking. The remote is small, like a Fire TV remote, so the choices on it are few. To turn on the sleep timer, you have to go back to settings and scroll through 10 other selections to get to the sleep timer. It was just annoying at every turn and we're returning it for a brand that has spent more time engineering their product to be less frustrating.
