4.4 cu ft gives larger shelf space front to rear: 12 pack of beer, dozen eggs w small end forward instead of across, whole watermelon, bags of fruit, and big storage containers. Floor space only slightly more than smaller minis. Never advertised??? Have to ask for this size???

Direct Cooling = Major Temperature Inconsistency

BOTTOM LINE: The Insignia NS-CF44BK6 Mini-Fridge provides more than a sufficient amount of space for liquids (drinks, juice, wine, etc.). It is not a small cubed sized unit, then again at 4.4cf, it is not so large that it still can be an acceptable bar or dorm refrigerator.
The major caveat is the inconsistent internal area temperatures measured from the individual shelfs anywhere from 45° to 36°*. This is due to no internal fan to circulate the cold air, coupled with the glass shelfs preventing equalized cooling air circulation. Recognize this is a limitation for all “Direct Cooling” refrigerators, especially with solid glass shelfs.
Due to the inconsistent internal temperatures, I believe food product should not be kept for extended periods of time in this mini-fridge. Or place them on the bottom shelfs towards the rear areas that maintains the lower temperatures.
RATING: After filling and using the Insignia NS-CF44BK6 Mini-Fridge for the past 4 days, I believe it earned itself an acceptable 3-Star Rating. If this mini-fridge was able to maintain a somewhat regulated internal 37° temperature, then a 5-Star would have been easily achieved. And my recommendation to others is dependent upon one’s primary intended use: Drinks/Liquids = YES; Perishable Food Products = NO.
TL;DR
SIZE: This is the perfect size that can be somewhat inconspicuous located in our dining room. Mainly used for additional refrigerator space (mostly liquids) when our grown children with grandsons visit during the various holidays. Other times this fridge is just emptied and turned off.
NOISE: I must mention this is a very quiet running mini-fridge. It is actually replacing a previous 2.5-year-old Insignia NS-CF44BK3 model that “gave up the ghost” and needed to be replaced. And the noise differential is quite apparent. Sweet!
DOOR STORGE: Neither my wife nor I find the door storage as useful as Insignia’s previous model that has 3 door shelf areas that secured bottle items from tipping over. Then again, we may just need to just determine which liquid containers will work best on this door. The eight can drink slots did not function well for tall soda or beer bottles. To be honest, we both preferred our older Insignia model door storage arraignment.
SHELFS: The glass shelfs are removeable and are easy to clean if/when spills occur. There are a few adjustment locations, or they could be removed if needed for taller items. But I believe if the shelfs were the metal wire-grate types, the internal cold air circulation could improve, and a more consistent internal temperature might be achieved. Just a thought…
ADJUSTABLE LEG: There is only a single adjustable leg that does not accommodate our somewhat uneven hard wood floor for proper leveling Placed in a corner, I had to install a small bumper pad on the opposite front leg to prevent rocking. I will also mention, there is a metal rail on the bottom rear, with two raised rectangle sudo-legs, that are fixed and non-adjustable. My suggestion would be for both of the front legs to be adjustable.
CRISPER BIN: Note the addition of a crisper bin that was not on the previous model. The bin can be removed if not needed. But sort-of comes in handy for our grandsons’ cold snacks like bubble-packed pudding, string cheese products, or fruit & veggies. There are no crisper bin side rails to float the bin for easy opening access since the bin just sits on the bottom of the refrigerator floor.
* TEMPERATURES: I used my Fluke 70-III multimeter and a Fluke 80TK thermocouple module with probe to document internal readings. I filled the fridge, set the thermostat to the MAXIMUM setting (as stated in the instruction manual), and then let it acclimate for 24hrs. After 24hrs, I readjusted the thermostat in between the MED & MAX setting and let it settle in for another four hours. As the thermocouple probe was moved from area to area, I would allow one compressor on-off cooling cycle to complete before documenting temperatures for “best-case” measurements. The measurements below reflect compressor completed its on cycle and turned off (1st temperature) to compressor kicked back on (2nd temperature) due dropping below thermostat setting.
From top to bottom with all shelfs installed.
• The top area measured the warmest temperature at 42.0° to 45.5°
• The next shelf area down measured 39.9° to 42.0°
• The shelf area above the crisper bin measured 39.0° to 41.5°
• The crisper bin area measured 36.7° to 38.6°
There were significate temperature variations if measured from the front versus the back of the shelf areas. (Above measurements were taken from the middle of the shelf areas.) Therefore, drinks could freeze if placed toward the rear next to the cooling plate. While food products may not maintain recommended safe temperatures if placed towards the door. Again, this just the nature of a “Direct Cooling” design without an internal cool air circulation fan.
Finally, increasing the refrigerator thermostat beyond MAX can provide overall colder temperatures for the upper bin areas but may freeze items in other areas. And will absolutely require more frequent manual-defrosting (turn off, empty contents, open door) as ice builds up on the inside back panel. Consequently, the Star Energy Rating is negated when maxed out and you will encounter increase energy costs if that is important to you.

I've been using this little fridge for about 2 weeks maybe, or a little less. It's just what I needed.
The build quality is like most full size refrigerators, and functions like it too. It's put together well, and came packaged well too. The door feels solid when opening and closing, and has that little thud you want when closing. The inside is great, as it has LOTS of room for a ton of drinks. Which is why I got this fridge to begin with. My other one, was very old and had smaller internal storage. I can fit so many drinks in here, it's crazy. I even has some full size larger bottles of apple juice and other things in it on top of all the other things inside.
It gets cold, and got cold really fast. I'd say with all new refrigerators let it sit for about 24 hours before putting anything it. I cleaned it with bleach and water, as you should too. It came clean obviously, but still clean it.
Overall for the price, this is a major win. You will have more than you need, and the size is just big enough to go into most areas in your home or room.

Worst Mini fridge I've ever owned. Builds ice in the back constantly. So the back is frozen and the front is warm. Tried changing the settings and there is no regulating the temp. on this thing. Complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY!

Great portable fridge quiet enough for a dorm room

I picked up the Insignia 4.4 cu. ft. mini fridge for my daughter's dorm room. This review is based on initial impressions and the first few days of use.
TL:DR - This fridge is great for the dorm, office, or anywhere you need to keep something cool. The design optimizes the fridge's footprint and allows for drinks in the door so more room is available on each shelf. The fridge is quiet, optimizes the footprint, and keeps things relatively cool. Note that bottom areas are colder than the top of the fridge.
Pros:
Design is nice and easy to use. Even with a fully stocked door, it doesn't slam shut.
There are three shelf height options total and only two shelves, so you can fit a gallon of milk in without having to remove a shelf.
It's super quiet, so no concerns about it being a nuisance in the door room.
Cons:
Temp control is a bit loose leading to variations, getting warmer towards the top.
Have to guess what "med" and "max" temps are if you need a specific temp range.
The fridge arrived well packaged, and by cutting the two packing bands the box top will lift off so all you have to do is take the fridge out of the base and plug it in. The shelves and information are all secured inside for transit, so to use, remove tape and load.
As for using the fridge, for testing purposes, I put it in the barn office, to store veterinary medicine. I found that the medicine stayed within range if I put it on the top shelf, but would get slightly too cold if put in the bottom drawer or on the bottom shelf. I also put in a few drinks, and a ham sandwich of indeterminable age, for science purposes of course. When put on max settings, I found that drinks in the drawer were slightly icy, but the ones on top or in the door holders were not. The ham sandwich did not mold after 3 days, which may be a low bar, but a data point nonetheless.
As for performance, my only real concern for a dorm fridge was if it would get cold enough, if it would hold all the stuff a teenager would want to store, and if it would be quiet enough to be in the same room where she is sleeping. The answer is absolutely, this fridge checks all the boxes. If you are using in a dorm room, make sure you allow enough space for ventilation behind the fridge and that you keep the compressor clean'ish as it is open to access from the back. I fully expect this fridge to last her through 4 years of dorm life without issue.

When I first got this fridge, I was worried it wasn't going to be big enough. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. As I'm sure is true for many people, drinks seem to take up a lot of room in a fridge and it quickly becomes a puzzle trying to fit everything. Turns out, this 4.4 cubic foot fridge was all my family needed to get the room we needed in our main fridge.
As far as functionality goes, everything works as advertised, maybe better. After plugging it in, it cooled down in no time. Once cooled I set it to 'medium' as recommended and it has been keeping everything as cold as my main fridge. Setting it to max would probably end up freezing things.
Another important feature of a fridge though is how well everything can fit into it. As it comes, it fits quite a bit and quite well. However, once you need to start adding odd shaped items, it starts to fall a little short with how much you can adjust the shelves. Making room for larger items means you're probably going to have a tiny shelf, or lose one altogether. Another issue I have is the back of the bottom shelf, which is the part that is covers the fridge components. It has a curve to it where it meets the glass shelf that makes it tricky to put things onto without worrying about it tipping over.
The only other issue I have is the build quality. Overall its fine, and the door seals just fine, but there's some quality issues in one of the corners on the bottom. It's hidden away underneath and doesn't affect anything except if I needed to reverse the door hinge. The foam overexpanded causing the metal to bend a little bit which would make it tough to swap the door hinge side.
Outside of those minor issues, it's a great fridge overall and has given me all the extra space I needed so that my main fridge isn't overly cluttered. It looks good too and fits right into my garage.

It will not stay cold enough - very uneven. The two center shelves will occasionally get below 40 or 39° the other two shelves never. It’s always either frozen on the back or dripping and not keeping it. Cool. I think it’s just outside of the return window and I have heavy regrets. It’s a shame since it’s a beautiful fridge space wise.

Hi, Thanks for your review. This product is direct cooling system (Manual defrost), not air forced cooling system (Frost free). So, the temp consistency is not as good as air forced cooling system. So, it will need you to clean the frost on the back of the unit manually.

I was pleasantly surprised by how thoughtfully this refrigerator was packaged. When you cut the strap, the bottom drops away so you can simply lift the box off—no wrestling with awkward packaging. Inside, the shelves and doors were secured firmly but still easy to unpack, and the tape left no sticky residue behind.
The shelving system is well-designed: each shelf slides into a back bracket and rests securely on a front bracket, so there’s no risk of them slipping or falling. The overall size is perfect for beverages—I can fit plenty of pop and water—but it’s versatile enough to serve as a regular fridge in a dorm, garage, or small home. One standout feature is the door design for bottles. They stay neatly in place and don’t shift around when you open the door, which makes everyday use much smoother.
The black finish looks sleek, though it does show fingerprints. Thankfully, they wipe off easily with a little Windex and a paper towel, so maintenance isn’t a hassle.
Overall, this fridge combines smart packaging, secure shelving, and practical design with a stylish finish. Whether you’re stocking drinks or using it as your main refrigerator in a smaller space, it’s a reliable and convenient choice.

This is a much better fridge than my previous one. I decided to upgrade my previous mini fridge because the first one I had since college (about 2015) and it was about 1.7 cu ft and I learned how to make my own drinks and the 1.7 was to small for what I needed. This is a huge upgrade I really like that it DOES NOT have a freezer compartment. I can fit all of my homemade drinks and have extra space for fruits that I get and some space for my Snapple and canned beverages! The only negative thing is that the front door of the fridge IS NOT magnetic but the sides are. I had to remove a shelf but with two shelves I can fit twelve Snapple bottles and six Gatorades the top shelve I have my oat milk and two containers with my drinks. There is a dedicated space for eight cans in the door but you can fill the whole door with cans. It was a little bit difficult to open at first but after having it and using it for about four weeks it is easier to open!

I’ve had this fridge for over a year now and it’s been everything i’ve needed. The size is perfect for being full of drinks with room to add any food if needed. It’s not loud and keeps drinks as cold as you’d like. on the coldest setting i’ve found it starts to freeze some drinks in the back, so I keep it on medium.
