I have antenna TV. The picture is not great on many of my antenna channels. I replaced a new smaller Vizio tv and this has a noticeably poorer pic than the Visio. The network channels were "ok", but the antenna channel networks were worse than what I previously had. Will be exchanging for the other brand.

First, I'd like to describe all of the positive features of this Insignia 40" LED 1080p television set model # NS-40D420NA18 that come to my mind and I am sure that there are others. It has a beautiful, clear picture and I am sure that this is due to its 1080p image. This television's speakers have great sound and the volume is more than adequate for my needs and I don't even need a sound bar--far from it! This television has 3 HDMI ports, a USB port, and an audio out jack for headphone, etc. use. I paired this television with the Insignia TV remote model # NS-RMT415 and you would be surprised to see how fast one can "travel" up and down the volume and channel categories by holding down the plus and minus buttons on the above (optional purchase) Insignia remote. It is important to mention that this newer model Insignia television's remote control is by far larger in size than the much smaller Insignia remotes I have seen in past models and this is important to me as it is far less likely to be lost or damaged from, say, sitting on it. Set up was easy and navigating between this television's different menu settings is super easy. Believe it or not, this television even has a feature that the user can enable or disable that will allow (or prevent) this television from audibly "talking to you" as you enter new commands into the remote. I temporarily disabled this function as it got too annoying to listen to constantly. The one negative issue I will present as it is a very important matter to me is that I was not able to receive 2 of my public television channels that I was "easily" able to receive on a year "older" Insignia television set--only that television was a 32" LED with a 720p. I fully recognize that many things can affect TV broadcast reception (i.e., even replacing aluminum mini blinds with vinyl mini blinds can improve TV signal reception in profound ways!); however, I had my top rated indoor HDTV antenna positioned in the same location and made several other repositioning attempts of that antenna and did a channel scan each time I changed antenna location and the situation of not being able to receive the above television stations did not change. I only use the above indoor HDTV antenna for one television at a time--the broadcast signal is not weakened from a "splitting" process. Many people are "cutting the cable" these days as I have done long ago and not being able to view all of the stations I enjoy watching meant a lot to me. Several Insignia representatives told me that this year "newer" Insignia 40" model had one "less" digital tuner than my year "older" Insignia 32" model; however, other Insignia representatives told me all of their newer models have the same antenna configuration. It is a beautiful television set offered at a great price by Best Buy and I even purchased this television set when it was on sale. I would have loved to have owned it if it were not for the different reception problems.

My mom had her television stop working. She’s 90 years old and didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I took her to the store in Dubuque and she picked out her television. It was reasonably priced and she is very happy. It’s bigger and better than her previous one and was cheaper.

We purchased this TV for our daughter who wanted a larger TV. The size was good but when we started watching the TV shows we noticed the picture quality was not good. There were ghost shadows whenever someone on the TV would move like an after effect. We returned quickly and decided on the Samsung instead.

I bought this to replace a 32" Insignia in my spare bedroom where my computer is, because I wanted something a little larger for my primary TV. I mainly watch TV while doing other things, so I wasn't looking for an expensive super high quality set, but something that I could see easily even without my glasses. And I wanted a set with at least 3 HDMI ports as well as a USB port. I watched the ads for several months, periodically putting a set in my cart and removing it. I finally decided on this 40" set and I am so far very happy with it. I'm a 5' tall "mature" woman and was concerned about being able to lift it. That turned out not to be a problem - the helpful salesman at Best Buy put it in my car and I was able to get it out and into my house with no problem. I've never been able to remove TVs, even the 32", from the box by myself and previously had to resort to ripping the box apart to get it out. Not this time - the set is inside of a strong plastic bag with handles, and clear instructions to lift by those handles and although it was a little tight, I got it out fine. I got the 32" set off of my stand and had my doubts that I could lift the larger set up, but to my delight this larger set weighed even less than the smaller one and didn't feel as awkward to hold PROs - good, clear picture. This is my first TV that is 1080, so that may also make it seem better. Sound is OK and no complaints there. I pretty much set up the TV without reading the instructions. (The only issue I had was getting the cable company to enable high def so I could try it out). CONs - the feet are placed diagonally so they wouldn't fit on my original stand because the front of the feet overhung the edge of the stand. We solved that by putting matching wider piece of wood (old shelf) on top. Love the 3 HDMI ports, but two of them are in a recessed area and I couldn't fit my Roku stick in them because it was too long for the recess, however it fit fine in the 3rd port which is in a different area of the back. (Note none are on the front or side if that matters to you). Added benefit: I put the 32" TV in the bedroom, replacing a 24" one, and now I can see that better too! Once I finish my den, I would definitely consider a larger Insignia for that room.

My only complaint is that the TV was difficult to get out of the box. The so called "handles" on the plastic bag ripped and i had a bit of a struggle to get it out because the packing was extremely snug. You definitely need two sets of hands to extract it. However; that wasn't enough to affect my rating. The TV was extremely easy to install. I got it connected to the satellite dish, BluRay player, and PC in less than 15 minutes. Set up was equally easy. It was really convenient to be able to label the inputs according to type. I have a sound bar so I am not using the TV's audio. I did have it running initially and it sounded a bit "tinny" but I assume that's because of the small speakers. Again I don't care because I'm not using them. Finally the picture is awesome compared to my last TV. It was a 32" 720p Insignia I purchased a few years ago when the bigger sets were a lot more expensive. The color and contrast on this TV is much better than my original and it is really a pleasure to watch. The only other issue I have with the TV is the PC output overlaps the display but I think that has to do with how I have the PC's graphic adapter set. The wife loves it too!

Great as a TV monitor - when you know the trick

I bought this TV to use as a computer monitor. At first the window overlapped the screen, Then I discovered the trick: Use your remote: click menu > picture > advanced settings > overscan > OFF. overscan is described as "extends text and images past the ecreen edges to hide edge artifacts". Picture is better and sound is way better than my other 40* TV use as a monitor - a Sanyo. Quite pleased with the Insignia so far.

I bought this non-smart tv from Best Buy six years ago, and, have had zero trouble with it! The picture is still as crisp as the day I bought it. The only regret I have in buying this tv is the fact I didn't buy a 'smart' tv instead. Otherwise, I am very happy with this product!

Got this on sale for $199, but had to return it. The picture itself was very vibrant but there was often a ghosting/pixelation that became annoying after awhile. Also, had my satellite connected via HDMI, but many times when we turned on the tv, it often said there was no input connection. Finally when the tv/satellite turned on, there was no volume until we manually pressed the volume up button. We could have maybe lived with one of the 3 problems but decided to spend a little extra for a Sansung that has been great so far. Too bad because we have a 32 inch Insignia that works great.
