Very easy to set up and clean. Doesn’t take up alot of space and produces ice quickly! I had ice in minutes. It’s little crunchy ice that is so good to nibble on. Only one complaint is that it is pretty loud. But I can take a little noise compared to the other machine that is several hundred dollars more.

Love this machine for its chewable ice (we use bottled water) and ease of use. It does take up a chunk of counter space and has a constant noise that can be irritating at first but after a while i stopped noticing it. Would be 5star but at 5months use it quit making ice. Will re-evaluate once we have the replacement at it proves to last. Still under manufacturing warranty.

This thing is great - when it worked. Ice was super crunchy and made drinks fun. However after about 1 year it started to wear out. It made intense squeaking and “howling” sounds. Best Buy was awesome and swapped it with a new one, but same issue after 4months. Very much recommend the extended warranty on this unit.

We love this machine! We previously owned the GE Opal - which was $200 more than this icemaker. The GE Opal worked for 12 months and quit in month 13. I tried several options to have it repaired/replaced - but it was out of warranty and, when the repair man came - he said there were no parts to replace and the only option was to get a whole new machine. I really loved having that ice!! But I refused to buy another of the same product - especially as I had read many people had this same experience. SO in my research for another - I found this Insignia - and it is PERFECT! It costs less, it fits a little better on our counter, it makes great ice fast, and the ice stays frozen forever - even overnight when I turn the machine off! It is even way less trouble to clean (fast and easy one button) than the Opal! PLUS - I love that I could add 4 year warranty protection thru the Geek Squad... just in case :-) We are so happy!! To keep it running great: use only distilled water and run cleaning cycle regularly. But buy one today - you won't regret it!!

Love this little ice maker. It's a bit noisy, but this whole lack of ice our house is a point of contention. I got so tired of filling up ice trays, etc. since the kids like to crunch and chew ice. This is perfect because the nuggets crunch easy and quite frankly, these are the best ice nuggets ever, I swear they make everything you drink better.

It’s not a bad machine. Pros- It’s quiet, I like the small ice it makes. Cons- when you remove the ice holder, it drips and makes a mess all over the place. Make sure you have a dry towel close. It has taken almost four hours to make a half a bucket of ice. It’s supposed to make 44lbs. Of ice in one day, I don’t see that happening at this rate.

    JUNK! Do Not Buy!

This Insignia pellet icemaker is junk and only lasted six months. A quick overview: • This Insignia pellet ice maker started making loud noises and leaking water after six months • I took it to Best Buy to have fixed under the one year manufacture warranty • Best Buy refused to send it in because I dented the cover while transporting it to the store and said that voided the warranty • Looking through the air vents in the case, it was clearly visible to the naked eye that water has been leaking for a long time and obviously couldn’t have been caused by a dent in the cover. • This Insignia ice maker is not repairable and is not durable. • Best Buy owns Insignia and neither will honor their warranty • Best Buy management and employee said it was my fault and told me 3 times that I should have purchased the extended warranty then there wouldn’t be a problem. If the won’t stand by the manufactures warranty, I doubt they will stand by the extended warranty. Employee and manager were not very helpful. Fortunately, this experience happened before we started shopping for major appliances for my Mother in Law and I have been able to steer her away from purchasing at Best Buy or purchasing any Insignia brand products. I ended up purchasing the Opal Ice Maker from Amazon... (I'm never making major purchases from Best Buy again.) While more expensive, the Opal Ice Maker is far superior in quality, is quieter, and is overall just a better product.

Machine is great, but just wanted to let people know that the ice isn’t exactly the same as the GE Opal or Sonic Ice. It’s a bit more solid and dense, not as soft and munchie, but still munch-able. Also noise is about 50 db (quiet conversation) while making ice. Family loves it though.

The description states it can produce 44 lbs of ice. This is NOT true. 1 batch of maybe 2.5 lbs takes 3 hrs to complete. Although I do like the ice, I will purchase a different brand next time.

I LOVE OUR ICE MACHINE!!!!!! This machine has been cranking out ice daily since we bought it. I need to have my drinks ice cold constantly. It does make yummy crunchy "good ice" if that's what you're in search for. This is perfect if you are wanting the crunchy ice like what they offer at AMPM gas stations or at Sonic. They are slightly bigger in size than sonic but believe me, you're still getting the nugget "good ice" that everyone loves but not many establishments offer (though they all seriously need to). It's worth the money. Truly, glad I took the plunge and purchased this as I'm using it daily and has made this summer so much more tolerable as I have ice drinks every day. My only recommendation, if you want a good supply of ice through the day, fill it up in the morning and just have it run through the day. Fill the reservoir when needed. We also use our filtered water as it makes the ice taste better than if it were tap (ick!)

Received a used unit with retaped box, half of box ripped open. Ice is slow and tends to melt as fast as it is made. I don't see how it can do 44 lbs in 24 hours. Very disappointed as I have had better machines at half the price. 1/4 of bucket filled after 4 hours running.

Good, but get the protection plan

I bought this machine in May for my wife’s birthday after doing two solid weeks of research on which nugget ice maker to buy. I went with this one because it was the more affordable option but we got the protection plan just in case. It was easy to set up and started to churn out ice without problem. The ice is a bit harder than the kind you get at fast food places but it was still chewable and great. The main downside to the machine was that it is loud. When the machine is making ice, it shoots it out and it hits the front wall with a startling amount of force. So you always hear those “pings” and the machines comressor is more audible than the kitchen fridge itself. But it’s about as loud as the fishtank we have running in the next room so we didn’t mind the noise. Another downside it cleaning it. The manual says to clean every three days and you really cant skip it unless you are using only distilled water. We have harder water so there were alot of deposits built up and even though we still used filtered water, alot of junk would appear in the nooks/crannies and come out during the cleaning cycle. You can’t run a bleach dilution through it either so theres not really a way to disinfect the system (manual doesn’t mention vinegar). There’s also an exposed screw beneath the ice shoot that appeared to be reacting to the moist environment, but no water or ice actually touches it. I wish I had taken pictures because I actually no longer have this ice maker. By the end of August the same year we bought it, we had a power outage and after I cycled the machine’s power, it would no longer churn out the ice as it did before. I’m talking no matter how many clean and power cycles I ran, it would only make about a measuring cup full of smaller than normal ice and then stop. Since we got the protection plan, I dropped it off at Best Buy for service. Normally they would have to send it off and would take 2-4 weeks, but as Insignia is owned by Best Buy, they just gave me a gift card with the amount I originally paid on it to buy a new one. Since we saw all the issues and had the extra money at the time, we ended up using the card to out towards and purchase the GE Opal 2.0 instead as it’s the better machine and has an easier to fill resevoir. So the Insignia machine worked fine for us until it didn’t. If you are on a budget and can look past the issues, then its not a bad little ice maker. However, get the protection plan and a surge protector so you dont loose your money.

Best Bang for the Buck!! 90 day review

Bought our pellet ice maker 4/30/22...an anniversary gift for my wife because she eats ice daily! The first week or two, we were very impressed. Yes, it's a little noise but, we have 3 kids 8 & under running around so.... we're used to noise. Running a cleaning cycle every 3 days is absurd and 99.9% of people will not do this. We run the cleaning cycle regularly but, if you want it to be clean, it will take time. And if it's not sitting next to the sink, you'll need to move it close to the sink to drain the 2-3 quarts of water. I use baking soda (as mentioned in the user manual) and really have to spend some time cleaning/wiping the water area to remove any bits of scale....you don't want it to build up. After the first 6 weeks, we moved it to our laundry room (we had a graduation party and wanted more space in the kitchen). Something you do not realize when this is on your kitchen counter.....it puts off some heat! Our laundry room is the size of a small bedroom and it keeps the temperature at 82-84 degrees in there!! My wife loves it cause she's always cold but wow, I can't believe how much heat it puts out. I said we're used to noise but....the other thing that stood out is just how much noise it actually makes. In the laundry room at the back of the house, you can't hear it and the house is quiet. When it was in the kitchen, you could hear it from any room in the house. We're just shy of 3 months (7/24/22) & it's still pumping out ice..... mostly. A few times it just shuts off so we have to turn it back on or power cycle it to get ice production back up and running! Other little things....the ice bucket slides in/out a bit awkwardly, leaving sliding marks/wear marks on the machine lip. And it's impossible to not drop water when you pull the ice bucket out. That sums it up.....4 stars because, it does the job, it's cheaper than the others, and I didn't expect much so....it has exceeded expectations. If you go into it understanding this is a lower cost machine and keep your expectations realistic, you won't be disappointed. BUY THE 4 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. I never buy warranties but on this, it was a no brainer. $30-$40.
