Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the 450-Lumen LED Light Bulb's brightness, energy efficiency, and safety features. Many customers appreciate the warm natural light it provides, while others highlight its low energy consumption compared to traditional bulbs. Some customers also feel that LED bulbs are safer than coil bulbs. However, a few customers have noted a buzzing sound, even when the bulb is not on a dimmer switch.

Finally an Energy Star Compliant A19!

I bought 6 of these and installed them yesterday before reading the reviews. 4 are installed in a light fixture in my dining room with a Low Voltage Magnetic Dimmer (the exact dimmer you need for Solid State Lighting). The side-by-side comparison to incandescents, when dimmed completely low, the incandescents provide a brown-ish color, while the LEDs maintain their color. No buzzing at full or dimmed. I then installed the other 2 in places without dimmers. Again, no buzzing. Not sure what the other reviews are talking about. I'm almost finished coverting the entire home to Energy Star Certified LED Lighting!...now how to get an LED refridgerator light? hmmm...

This does EVERYTHING we hoped for. One comment I read complained about the bulb heating up. THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE! LED light generate 0 heat. Do yourself a favor and get one, or two or replace all your lights now.

    A MUST have

These bulbs are a MUST have. The color of light is similar to incandescents yet they only require 9 watts of energy, not 40. I've replaced every bulb in my apartment complex, which has reduced energy use for all my tenants and myself. Plus I won't have to replace the bulbs for 22 hours! Excellent!! The product description could use some work. It seems BBY doesn't know that the bulb only requirs 9 watts of energy, not 40.

Good bulb, but has side effects

Overall I like this bulb but I bought it for my garage door opener. My remote operates around 315 mHz and this bulb interferes with that range. The result is that my remote controls will not work if the lights are lit - which is anytime I need to close the door! I'm disappointed by this fact. Higher quality electronics in the bulb could eliminate the problem, and you would think at this price they would have done so. Not the case so beware if you intend to use this bulb in a garage door opener or other radio receiver application. Recommended with reservations

    One big advantage...

I have been trying out multiple brands to get a feel for my own brand and brightness preferences. One big advantage this bulb has is that it illuminates an area more fully. By that I mean, on most of the brands that I have tried, the big heat-sinks on bottom, blocks light. I have a suspended light fixture over my kitchen island, when I used a brand with the big gray base, the light shone down, but did not illuminate my ceiling-- my kitchen looked like a pool hall. With the design of the Insignia bulb, it illuminated the ceiling-- in the same way that a standard bulb does. Also, the 22 year lifespan makes it great for the really obnoxious hard-to-change high-ceiling bulb, that hangs over the staircase.

    Noisy

I saw an EETimes teardown of this bulb, and thought, wow, here's a great LED replacement bulb. So I bought a few of the 9- and 13-watt bulbs, and replaced some incandescents. Unfortunately, these buzz with my Lutron dimmer switches, even at full brightness, and quite loudly at half brightness. The 9-watt bulb I have is worse than the 13, but they both buzz.

    Great Bulb

I am starting to replace all of my bulbs in my house with LED ones. I checked stores in town and all bulbs in stock are way over priced and worse quality than these. AND they can be used as dimmers. Not a real different between this one (40 watt) and 60 watt. I bought both and I can't really notice the difference in light from my other bulbs. Highly recommended.

    Just ok.

The more you dim it, the more it buzzes. Unacceptable flicker in my dimmamble touch lamp, but ok with my wall dimmer switch.. A little bit whiter light than the equivalent Cree 40W warm LED at Home Depot. Wouldn't reccomend for a light right near your ear, especially if you're going to use a dimmer.

Hmm.. did the 'preview' loose my review? Not typing it all again so short answer is it was buzzing but not loudly at all (need to get close). Light was more like 3500K instead of 3000K, and it worked well with my dimmer, unlike "dimmable" CFLs.

I expected it to be just as good as an old style bulb but LED is not there yet. Buzzing sound, even when not on dimmer. LED Bulbs create a lot of heat hence why they have the heatsinks around them - Light quality is average at best, CFL has a better light quality even if you have to wait a 1 minutre for it to warm up.
