Review for Insignia™ - 497 Sq. Ft. HEPA Air Purifier - White I’m a big fan of the Insignia brand, which provides quality products at an affordable price. This unit is sized perfectly for our main living level - an open floor plan. I like how the display lets you know the current air quality and is quiet in sleep mode. I notice how it kicks up filtering when I cook or the dog runs by. I also like that the filter is one piece, combining HEPA, carbon, and particle filters - no need to shop for and replace separate filters! The unit is compact for its capacity and blends well with our living space.

If you value clean air in your home, you should consider the Insignia HEPA air purifier. This unit can cover up to 497 sq ft and since it’s a best buy brand, it doesn’t cost as much as other filters out there that cover this amount of area. The replacement HEPA filters are $60 when not on sale (but are currently $15 off at the time of this review. The filters are rated for 2,000 hours of use which if you leave it on all day and night, you will have to replace every 84 days or so. If you want to extend that time you can use the built-in timers for up to 12 hours at a time, so depending on the air quality you can just use the timer to make the filters last longer. There is an Auto mode that will adjust the fan speed automatically depending on the particulates it captures as well. The bright LED indicator on the front is easy to read and will display the air quality in either red, orange, yellow, or green. Green meaning the air is good and red, hazardous. It will also display the size of the particulates that is captures as a micrometer number. I have had it running in my living room area which is bigger over all than the rated 497 sq ft area, but it seems to be doing a good job. It is very quiet on the first two speed settings, and I hardly notice that it is working to keep my air clean. Speed levels 3 and 4 can get loud, but it is also working a lot harder as well and unless its dealing with a huge air quality issue, you probably will not need those speeds anyway. Overall, if you are looking for a relative inexpensive way to purify a large area of your homes air, this is a very good option.

Piece of garbage. I have a tower fan that cleans the air better.. Just a fantasy looking blower. My tower fan works 50 times better..

The Insignia - 497 sq. ft. HEPA Air Purifier is an absolute treat. I recently began using an air purifier in my bedroom and had noticed a significant difference in air quality, so when stumbling upon this product, I was excited to give it a whirl! Unboxing and setup of the air purifier is quick and efficient. There is an outside bag, and inside the purifier is the filter (also in a bag). Make sure to remove the inner bag prior to use. From unboxing to turn-on was less than 5 minutes and the purifier went to work. There is a 6’ cable, allowing for easy placement in the home. The look of the air purifier is intriguing, with the subtle design on the front making it unique. The top grate is plastic, and from far away presents well. The buttons are on the top of the purifier, power being in the middle. There is a timer toggle allowing up to 12H; 5 different fan speeds (Night mode, 1-4), and then an auto button; which is my preferred setting. A feature is included to hold and initiate a child lock so that settings are not able to be changed. Setting the air purifier to auto, leaves it running, with modifications to fan speed as needed to facilitate the quality of the air. I have placed this purifier in my joint living room and kitchen, and when cooking the air purifier responds in turn to the changes of air quality. There is a noticeable difference after cooking in the time required for air to be back to normal quality versus lingering decrease in quality. There is a carbon filter to assist in removal of odor. There is also a filter replacement alarm feature, helping to know when the filter should be changed (a simple thing to forget). The most nifty part of this air purifier for myself is the display. There is actually a display on an air purifier. This is not a required feature, but lets one visualize the quality of the air. Just a nice feature to peek over and remind oneself of breathing purified, clean air. Overall, this purifier is equipped with a HEPA filter, designed for a moderately sized 497 sq. ft. room. The overall quality of my air has improved since implementing the filter, and I will absolutely be maintaining this device into the future!

I never thought an air purifier could really make a noticeable difference, but I was wrong. I usually wake up very stuffy in the mornings, but it has been a lot better since I started using this thing. I like the simplicity of the design and how easy it is to use. It's very quiet too. The best part is that it is capable of working my whole apartment. Very happy with this thing.

It looks nice and was very easy to set up. I tried the different levels and all work very well. I think we will keep it on auto setting as so far it works for us. I like that it adjust automatically depending the current air quality. It is a bit louder on the higher settings but still worth it for the quality. I also love that it has a child lock which is so helpful since preschoolers love pressing buttons. Also love the visual display that shows current air quality, green, yellow, red. We noticed a difference right away, before this when someone was cooking, especially eggs, meats, etc, the smell would make its way upstairs and you can smell the strong cooking smell. But with this on auto, it adjusts to a higher speed and you don't smell it upstairs. Which is good because when you're in a zoom mtg and smelling food downstairs, it makes you hungry. Noticed another big difference is with allergies right away with son's allergies too, he isn't sneezing or runny nose constantly like before this. We pretty much keep it running during the day. All around great, affordable air purifier.

The Insignia - 497 Sq. Ft. HEPA Air Purifier is an extremely simple yet powerful air purifier that is perfect for anyone looking for fresher, cleaner air without the hassle of having to deal with any sort of app for setup or maintenance purposes. With everything seemingly requiring some sort of app nowadays, it is refreshing to find a product that really is as simple to maintain and use as just plugging it in and setting the unit to “Auto” mode. This allows the unit to automatically adjust the fan speed based on the air quality which makes the most sense to me. The unit can still be manually controlled as well via the buttons on top in case you ever want it to operate at a faster or slower fan speed than what is set during the Auto mode. The only thing you really have to pay attention to is when the filter needs to be replaced but even this is easy to deal with since the unit will tell you when it is time for a new filter. Overall, the Insignia - 497 Sq. Ft. HEPA Air Purifier is a great air purifier that works very well and is easy to setup and maintain and I highly recommend it!

This one is big. The large filter medium came assembled and ready to go inside a plastic bag in the unit, just remove door, unbag, put back in, close door and plug in. The auto mode works great with the air monitoring sensors to kick up the fan speed and warn of greater particulate concentration near the purifier. I tested it next to another air purifier with an air monitor sensor built in and they both kicked up the fan speed and warned of air quality issue about the same strength/fan speed increase in response to opening an oven with bacon cooking inside about 8 feet away. Auto mode is where these types of filters shine. Just set it and forget it. The display panel is very bright and you can't turn it off when using the filter unless you choose sleep mode (moon icon). All lights will turn off in sleep mode and the fan will run at a very low level, hard to hear it at all even standing nearby. 3 month life estimated on the HEPA filter, with a light to illuminate when you should consider replacing the filter. I like this unit a lot and will be good for a large room like a den or living/sitting room.

Set it up and has been stress free. Non intrusive sound, and a good size to not be a distraction. With 3 cats running around an air purifier can certainly help. Does what I need it to.

It's doing it's job. My wife has bad allergies. We have an air purifier in the living room and we placed this one in the bedroom. My wife said she noticed a difference right away so that's a definite plus. For the machine itself. It's a decent size, but it fits in well and doesn't look gaudy. The controls on the top work, but you have to be firm with them. Not a bad thing when you have a toddler. The fan has 4 speeds. Speed 1 and 2 are pretty quiet to where you can barely hear it at all. Speed 3 and up gets a little noisy and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. All the other settings work great. As long as the filter and the motor holds up this will be an awesome addition to our home.

Very easy and quick installation. Digital interface makes it super easy to read the air quality indicator light and navigate the different functions on the purifier. LOVE the sleep mode. Turns all thre lights off and is very quiet to sleep through. The only thing I noticed was a very stark noise level difference between settings 2 and 3– where setting 2 is still very quiet (almost too quiet) and setting 3 whirls pretty loud.

This product is fabulous. It does a great job of purifing the air. It goes into faster action when I'm cooking or if the wind is blowing hard outside!. I have asthma and this product has been very helpful in that aspect!

It was larger than I expected but seems to work great! I hardly notice it when on the second lowest fan speed and can really move a lot of air if set to the higher speeds.

This product is very sensitive to changes in air quality. The measurement always increases when I’m cooking. Whenever the measurement is high, the purifier is quick to bring it down to single digits in around 10 minutes.

Works great, super quiet on low settings and has a nice bright led to let you know how the air filter it doing.

This works well for my home. Safe and easy to use.

I like the sensor on the front to give you an idea of air quality. If nothing else it can make people feel more assured that their space has a safe particle count. It is a bit larger then I pictured it being. Works well for a large room.

As described. Well built creates great airflow even in a large bedroom without a fan. I’m told it makes the air smell like toast.

Had to return it. Worked really well and would detect when the air was bad but the clean air that came out smelled like some kind of chemical, like glue or paint. It was so strong that the whole apartment smelled like it. Kept running it to see if the smell would ware off but it didn’t.

The Replacement Filter for NS-APLWH2 Insignia 497sqft purifier may not be available for long stretches of time on Best Buy's website. There is NO WHERE else to buy a compatible HEPA replacement filter, except from Best Buy. So if they are out. You're SOL. You won't be able to find them anywhere else, not even amazon.
