Tear and front recording camera for driving survei
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought it would be protecting my car when parked in a parking area and record any active theft. It just records front and back footage when car is in transit. Just opened it yesterday and had since last month. Return timetable has passed so i'm stuck with it.

Good Camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 4K front and rear dash cam is a decent camera option for your car or truck. The cameras produce a good picture and the interface is easy to use. In the box, you get the front and rear camera, as well as the power adapter and two long cables. The setup is fairly easy. You will need a micro SD card to get everything set up (no it isn’t included). Set your preferences, date/time and format the memory card and you should be up and running. Choose which mounting option you want as there are 2 options for the main camera. I chose the suction mount and it works great. Secondly, you will have to route the cables around the headliner and seals to your vehicle. This isn’t difficult but can be made much easier if you have a trim or panel tool. It’s a shame they didn’t include one in the box. I have a full set of panel removal tools so this wasn’t a big deal. Depending on how clean of an install you want, you may also want to remove your trim and kicker panels so you can neatly route the wires to the rear. I did this in my truck and ended up hiding the excess cable behind the kicker panel. Worked out pretty well. Some cons to this system I’ve found are: you don’t get the trim tool to make install easier. Secondly, the rear camera only comes with one type of mount which will work fine for a car. However, my truck has glass that is vertical/flat up and down and the mount isn’t the best option for it. I’m unable to get the right angle due to the type of back window I have. Overall, the dash cam system has worked well so far and I haven’t had any issues with it. You can’t beat the piece of mind you get with a dash cam. I certainly recommend this camera.

Can Be Good…Depends on your needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not a fan of having two pieces. I thought I would like this but having to find another spot on your dash or window to place the rear camera is a headache. It would be much better if the rear camera was attached to the main unit. Unless you’re using this to record video from a rear window to capture footage outside of the vehicle. Other than that this isn’t too bad. You are getting 4k video for a great price. To me, it is not much difference from a higher end dashcam. The hardware doesn’t seem as sturdy but it will do. The suction cup stays in place very nicely so no need to worry about it falling off of your windshield. I used a 64gb micro sd card to capture video. It captures the entire front of my vehicle and more. So it’s more than enough the provide video just in case something happens. The cord is more than long enough to reach to the accessory port. I haven’t driven at night just yet so I can’t yet attest to the video at night. But the resolution is awesome. I like that you don’t have to keep removing the sd card to delete video. It just overwrites if you don’t need to keep anything. If you don’t need anything fancy bells and whistles then you will be satisfied by this dashcam. Great price. Like I said earlier, if you want to record video behind your vehicle as you drive then this is a must buy. If not you’ll have to deal with another cord to capture video inside your vehicle and find another mounting location.

Peace of mind In 4K
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been in only one fender bender. Lucky for me I had a camera rolling the whole time. I was almost blamed by the other party until I pointed to my camera and that really silenced the fingers pointing at me. What if I had two cameras? Well I know now! I set the cameras up in about 30 minutes. I used a thin spoon to wedge the cables all through the crevices of the vehicle. The installation was flawless and it started right up. I suggest you set it up before you install it in its semi-permanent location, it’s much easier than trying to change dates and times while it’s on the window. The video quality is superb. The camera gives you the option to change what camera you view or where it’s oriented on the screen. That’s really great when providing video proof to your insurance agency. I just really enjoy the peace of mind this gives me, it’s a bonus that you can make out a lot of details on the video. I did get some false “low light” warning where it tells you to turn on your headlights on. So that’s probably about the only negative about this. Other than that, it’s been wonderful to drive knowing I’m covered.

Great basic 2 camera solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had previously tried a dashcam that attaches and replaces your rearview mirror. Over time I didn’t like it because of how much it vibrated and made the mirror unusable over time, the cam was just too heavy for the mirror. This option is a great replacement. I like that it is a standard attach to your windshield option. That made install really easy. I don’t really love any of these DIY options in regards to the power. The cables just run everywhere and isn’t super convenient. But they do give you a nice long cord for both the front and back cam so that you can run it along the edge of your car’s windshield, doors, etc and keep it out of the way. No real advice on the best method to hold up the cables, so I’ve got basic tape that won’t damage my interior for now and will see how well it holds up and what I may want to move to. This isn’t something to remove a star for since it’s a problem of all dash cams that you install yourself, but they haven’t found a way to improve things yet either. I was irritated that you can not use it without and SD card. Now you’ll probably want one no matter what, but it doesn’t work at all without one and doesn’t come with one. My problem was that supply chain issues are such that getting a card I wanted took a few days. If you don’t realize this, then you could be waiting for a while to actually use this cam. Now if supply chain issues are ever resolved, you may not worry about it, but I didn’t want to waste $10 on a crappy sd card so I could use it until a better one arrived, so I just couldn’t use my cam for a while. The pictures are clear and crisp thanks to the 4k (although I’ve only viewed on a smaller 1080 screen so I haven’t tried to verify how good it is blown up on a big screen 4k tv. However, the lens does have a bit of a fishbowl effect so that you can get a full view of things in front of you. To me that is a real plus for the front camera especially, but if for some reason you don’t like that, then you may want to select a different dash cam. It has all your basic review, save, mute, etc. features and nothing to really to write home about. You can choose the length of clip you want to save just like a lot of the dash cams now days. The save function allows you to prevent a clip from being automatically overwritten once your card is full. However, I accidentally saved a clip as I was playing around with it and I swear it took like 3 min. to save the file. I think this is because they actually partition your sd card and have the loop recording and overwrite on one partition and the saved files in the other partition. So that means it actually is making a copy of the file on the second partition. Sound planning on how to save files, but taking 3 min. to save the shortest length clips is really long. I really don’t even want to experiment to try how long the longer clips would take. Overall a nice basic dashcam. Works well and has a good picture but don’t expect it to be cutting edge.

Nice unit - great price!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All my vehicles these days have dash cameras in them, but this is the first one that I was able to get the rear camera working in conjunction with the front, not to mention that for an inexpensive setup this gave the best video quality of those that I have tried. The main unit plugs into the USB port in the front of your vehicle and has a suction-cup mount for the windshield - the rear has a USB cable that runs to the main front unit to the rear camera that uses a 3m sticky-mount on the rear glass. Now - that having been said, if you're an Uber of Lyft driver, you could also to the route of putting the "rear" camera on the windshield to keep video record of you and your passenger. Video is extremely crisp and clean. Other reviews have said "no night vision" - im not sure what they are expecting as I get a color video out of both cameras in the dark. It's not like looking through night -vision goggles, but you definitely get a usable video at night. Now all I need to do is get a 2nd one of these for my other car - great product!

Good entry-level dash cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been having some problems with my current dash cam and in these days and times, I didn’t want to be without one so I ordered this one. Installation and setup were as to be expected with the hardest part being running the wire for the rear camera along the door sills to the back of my truck’s window. Fortunately, I already had hardwires from my previous dash cam so I just had to plug that in. The suction cup mount didn’t really work well for me because my front windshield is lightly tinted and using the mount caused the tint to bubble. I had to improvise a bit with some extreme duty double sided tape that allowed me to mount in to the bottom of my rearview mirror which has held up well enough so far. This dash cam is really a no frills, entry level camera. There is no WiFi syncing, no app to download to view files and just a bunch of other features that I had grown to like on my other unit. It doesn’t some with a memory card, so be mindful of that and honestly most of them don’t. The picture was clear enough and removing the memory card to view the recordings was easy. There is really nothing special about this dash cam, but there really isn’t anything negative to say either. All in all, it’s a good basic dash cam.

Can't review videos on computer.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Something is off with the way this dash cam formats the SD card. When putting the SD card in a computer to view the videos, I always get an error that the card is unreadable. I've tried on both Macs and PCs and noting works. The card format is supposed to be exFAT, which should be readable, but it's not on any device.
