I bought this air fryer as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend and she is very happy with it. She has already used it several times and everything she has cooked has tasted good without adding oil so it is healthier. She told me this was her favorite appliance and she looked forward to cooking different items in it. She said it is easy to set the temperature and time and after that, the food is cooked without worrying about it burning. She has cooked fries, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, and bread so far but plans to try many other things. I noticed that some reviews commented on a plastic smell but other than the fact the unit is new, there isn't an issue with smell. The air fryer doesn't have to be preheated so it saves time and the basket is designed to stay in place unless you make an effort to release it which isn't necessary when emptying. This is a large item and can easily cook a whole chicken in the basket. I don't know about longevity but so far, this was a great investment for a gift that makes cooking a great meal much easier. I highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to cut calories but not flavor.

I was a skepitical user when I purchased this. My husband had me return one last year because it's a "specialty" item that one most likely wouldn't use often. Well, I thought I'd try again this year after hearing good reviews from a friend who purchased one. To my surprise, I have had good to great results and enjoying using my air fryer. From bakiing cornish game hen, a whole chicken, pizza, to french fries, and reheating items to make them crispier again...loving it! I even browned and crisped thin egg noodles...now that's amazing and well worth not frying it and using only 2 tablespoons of oil! I am very pleased and it's sitting on my counter 24/7 with no complaiints from my husband. He no longer feels it's a :"specialty" item, but now a part of my cookware!

I LOVE fried foods!!! There I said it!!! I bought this during the black Friday sale. I really did not think there was any way I would like this as much as my deep fryer that uses oil but I like this air fryer WAY MORE than using oil! So far I have made mozzarella sticks, spring rolls, popcorn chicken and s'mores. Everything I have made so far tastes just as good as or even better than when I fried them with oil (especially the mozzarella sticks, which my family and I love)! And because this uses hot air instead of oil, I can make items like the s'mores in it too! The cleanup for this item is extremely easy! Way better than the cleanup involved with an oil fryer! I love this fryer and I am so happy I bought it. I am really looking forward to trying many different kinds of foods in it.

I was skeptical after reading reviews, and waited a while to write one. I also waited to buy one till one went on sale. I knew I would only buy a large one, otherwise you’re making multiple batches. I also looked up a variety of recipes on line before using the air fryer, it was very helpful. Also, reading the instructions helped avoid some of the problems I read in the reviews. Some foods are still a trial & error though. I’m very happy with the turn out of foods I used to avoid due to fat and cholesterol, it’s only slightly different then actual frying. I’ve tried air frying just about everything. It does take a little while longer then actual frying, but who cares. The unit does heat up the kitchen pretty good, but not the entire floor like the oven would. So far I’ve had no complications with the machine, I’ve followed the instructions with care and cleaning. I do find cleaning after using highest temperatures a little more difficult while cleaning carefully as to not ruin anything. I find it worth it though.

This Insignia is replacing a worn out FarberWare unit I bought a few years ago. Best thing is the size...it's quite a bit larger than my old unit and so it has plenty of room to easily spread out food for two people with little to no need for stacking/layering the food. At 1700 watts, it has a bit more power than my old 1400w unit. It seems to cook quicker, but again, my old unit was on it's last legs as I use my air fryer at least once a day. Digital controls work fine(for now) but I'd rather have mechanical temp and timer dials like my old unit. Much easier and quicker to use than digital. Build quality is about par for these things...I have yet to see a "heavy duty" air fryer. All the brands I've seen are noticeably built to hit a relatively low price point. If this Insignia lasts for at least 3-4 yrs like my old FarberWare...this will be a solid buy for sure....especially as I bought it on sale.

I have been thinking about getting an air fryer for a while. This was such a good deal, I took the plunge. So far, I have done French fries and breaded pork chops. There isn't much to go on for recipes with the item. I ended up having to put more oil then the book said on my French fries to give them a better fry. But, it still isn't really the same. I made the pork chops both in the fryer and on the stove top to get a balance of time and doneness. They both were done about the same time, but there was very little browning on the one from the fryer. I am still testing, but so far I am mildly happy with it. The one thing I have to say that I really like is I can walk away from it and let it do its thing, while I work on other parts of the meal. I don't have to babysit it like a deep fryer. So, for right now it is a work in progress. I will put a reluctant yes for now on a recommend.

Okay, bad first, deal breaker, I am returning, bad luck, maybe? This has 2 pans, inner and outer, outer is fine, inner has numerous louvers around periphery, all fine, Bottom has numerous perforations and this is where the issue lies. Approximately one half of these perfs have very rough/sharp raised edges and will cut you and tear your dishcloth upon cleaning! If I could re-coat the pan with non-stick I would deburr it, recoat, and all would be fine. With these horrible burrs, the non-stick wont stay for long, never mind the cuts. Better if it were stainless steel! *The good... initial operational test unit operated flawlessly, expected plastic smell should fade, control touch panel worked good, very much liked it. Size is great, advertised as 5.8qt box sez 5.5... meh *Would love to have kept if not for burr issue. *Would have taken photo but easier to feel (the pain). Plus, ain't nobody got time for dat! Already wasting enough time writing this and returning unit.

    Different Option for Cooking

I've wanted to try an air fryer for awhile, and glad I finally made the jump. I've done fish, french fries, chicken strips and chicken breasts so far. It takes a few tries to get the cooking time just right. My first batch of fries needed another minute or two to cook, but that's because I filled the basket. The main reason I bought it was for cooking fish. I bought fish bake coating, and cut up walleye fillets in chunks, and battered them in an egg. The fryer crispened them up perfectly, and they tasted wonderful. Cleanup is super easy as it's just the basket, and holder that need to be cleaned. The only tiny negative is how much of a footprint on the counter it is. We ended up putting in the corner, as it does stick out. Not really much you can do because of how large the basket is.

I have seen this type of machine on so many shows that I was hesitant to get at first, but BestBuy had a sale and I thought what the heck. I am so glad that I did because it really does air fry your food. I have to admit that I am still learning how to use this device properly. I learned on my first try that this machine does fry food at a rapid pace and intense. So, if the instruction states to heat oil at med-high and cook for 10 minutes, then reduce the temp level and cook for a shorter time (my butterfly shrimp were oevercooked…...almost burnt). So now I pay attention to the fryer and check on the food just to make sure the food doesn't burn or get overcooked. The food are just as crispy, crunchy, and delicious as if I had actually used a deep fryer (or baked in oven). My kids are enjoying making food here (French fries, onion rings, knishes)

I just made the best meatloaf ever in my insignia 5.5 ltr air fryer. No one, and I mean NO ONE believed it was made in an air fryer. Use 2 lb ground beef. 1 pk Mc cornices meatloaf mix 2 eggs 1/4 cup milk 2 slices of bread ( I use the heels) Mix well Set temp for 350. Time 30 minutes After 30 minutes top with ketchup or BBQ sauce. Bake 25 more minutes and you won't believe how great it looks and tastes. Let rest in fryer 5 minutes and lift out with two plastic spatulas. Serves 6. While it cooled I peeled 4 potatoes and 1 inch cubed them. Added salt and peppet; 2 garlic cloves. Put them in the fryer for 20 minutes and mercy sakes alive!! What amazing color and taste.

Great product for cost (paid 49.99 on a Xmas special). Easy to use presets, no need to preheat, large 5.5 L size makes it easy to cook for multiple people at once. Not overly noisy when in use, but you can hear it. Clean up pretty easy, like that it goes right in the dishwasher. Have cooked a variety of foods, only wish it had come with more cooking info in user's guide but can't have everything. Be prepared to experiment a little to get items to cook to your preferences. So far has performed to every expectation and I really like the speed, convenience and not having to use oil!

These things shouldn't really be called air fryers, btw. It's really a small convection oven with exposed browning element. Doesn't matter though - it'll cook a bag of tater tots in the time it would normally take you to warm your regular oven up, and they'll be crispy like they came out of a deep dryer. It's also a great way to reheat pizza, bake a small cake, and even cook a couple of hamburgers in a hurry. And it's almost microwave fast. Just make sure your household wiring is up to snuff - this bad boy draws all 1700 watts it says it does (as measured by a kill-a-watt).

I got this air fryer 13 hours ago. Used it twice last night and once this AM. It has a major design flaw. On the bottom there is a little plastic piece that triggers a sensor that tells the fryer the basket is in and to turn on - or pause if removed. It is a tiny and thin little piece and it broke off this AM just by placing the basket in the fryer. Without it my fryer won't turn on anymore. It is going back and I am going with a name brand as this is to major of a design flaw to just replace with the same item. Definitely a waste of time and $$$$

I have used my air fryer quite a few times already. I have done chicken fingers, French fries, bacon and egg rolls so far. All have come out great. Note this isn't a fryer so your not going to get the fryer results. But I would say a close second. It cooks fast and evenly. The only complaint that I would have to say and is nothing to do with the fryer is that when I made the fingers and fries, I had to do each separately. I cooked the fries till almost done, then the fingers. When the fingers were done, I finished the fries. Not a big deal but I'm not getting 2 fryers lol.

I bought this as a Christmas present to myself and my wife. I used to fry just about everything I ate in bacon grease. Decided to try to eat a tad healthier. Did some 'naked' wings first. Was totally amazed how great they were. Crispy, juicy, yummy. Tater tots are so much better than baked in a oven, texture and crisp bite, perfect. Baked potatoes in half the time, and they are much better. Just ate some pork chops that are, dare I say, better than fried in bacon grease! Cleanup is a breeze. I'd recommend one to everyone.

The air fryer cooks food well and crisps things better than when baked in the oven. There is not much in the way of directions as for food cooking temps and times. I have found recipes and guides on Pinterest to be very helpful. You must still take into consideration the size and power of each fryer. This fryer is very large and holds a good quantity of food. My favorite thing to cook in the air fryer is bacon because it keeps the mess contained and I don’t get grease splatters on me or the kitchen.

This is my first air fyer and I am impressed. I used it only 4 times mostly for frozen appetizers and they came out as good as deep fried. It's easy to clean and no oil mess. The frier smelled awful the first few times used but luckily I had read other reviews that it might so I cleaned it and ran it at 400 for 10mins. Cleaned again and continued running it 3 more times cleaning in between and the smell is now gone. The only con is that the drawer is a little hard to pull out and i have to hold the fryer with my other hand and yank.

I've never used these before and after some tweaking and keeping a close watch on the times, i have been able to quickly serve frozen appetizers and make some pretty sweet "fried" foods from scratch. I'm sure there are fancier units available but this one has served me well. Basically, its a small convection oven and the time suggested in my experience has been a couple minutes on the long side. Overall, i am pleased with this especially as i got it on sale for around $60.

We where always against getting one of these because of some bad reviews from those who have had them. We saw this model on sale for $30 off and we figured we would give it a try. If we don’t like it, well we have 45 days to take it back. two months later we still have it. Have cooked chicken, burgers, fries, fish and even ribs in this machine. All of them have come out awesome. it is not true fried taste, but it is good none the less. NOw we use this 90 percent of the time and fry just once a month

I finally broke down and got this air fryer at a coworker's suggestion. It surprised me on how the taste was not compromised. I tried so far steak, eggs, ground beef, and bacon. So far they all got cooked to satisfaction. I had to check every now and then for how much the egg got cooked. I placed a oven safe bowl into the air fryer to cook the egg. Cleaning between the grates were somewhat difficult at times when the grease hardened but it was manageable. Definitely will try other air fryer recipes.
