    Terrible instructions, unit needs upgrades

As other reviews state, the instructions are vague and hard to follow. The main problem is the lack of detail for the gaskets and knowing where and how to put them in There is another post that goes into great detail about what gaskets go where, but the main point is the one that is duck bill shaped goes in the CO2 line(the duck bill going into the actual line and the flat part against the tap and the flat rubber gasket goes with beer line. Fyi you cannot get it to seal by hand tightening, use a wrench BUT a 1/4 turn, at most, is all that is needed or you will cut the gasket (which i did the first time) That being said there is more that goes in than hooking up the keg and co2 and drinking. DO YOUR RESEARCH. This unit comes with a 5ft beer line which will work for your regular beers (bud light, etc.), but if you do craft beers plan on getting a new line. I drink Sam Adams summer ale and couldn't get foaming issues to stop, all due to this short beer line. After changing the beer line i would randomly get foam issues. I changed the faucet to a different style and have not had this issue ever again. The faucet they include with the unit has a ball that stops the beer when closed, when it is fully open. randomly you will get a foamy poor (all foam no beer). I think the ball creates a venturi effect and produces excessive foam. This unit appears to be aimed for the first time buyer, but the lack of information is the down fall. After a few hours of research and a few upgrades it is a great unit. But as for the unit being an off the shelf, plug and play. this unit, it is not, and the best advice i can give is to do the research before you buy it.

    Think twice about this purchase

I will start by saying that there is a steep learning curve for a novice, like myself. The thought of your own, personal kegerator is cool but there is a lot to it. Like most I have dealt with having foam issues when I first tapped a keg. There is a learning curve with these, the temp has to be just right, as does the CO2. Also, you need to make sure that everything is perfectly tight, I ran out of CO2 within 2 days because I had a leak in my regulator. Therefore, make sure you double check that all connections are tighten. I would suggest to use soapy water to make sure there are no leaks. About a third of my first keg was wasted in foam, so I am now planning on swapping the beer line for one that is 10 feet long. I have also added a fan to help circulate the cold air inside the keg. Also, these things require up keep. After every keg it is recommended that you clean the beer lines. Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend a Kegerator to anyone, just because of the associated extra cost. But it is pretty awesome to have draft beer at home. You can also go to your local brewery and pick up a keg, that in itself is pretty special.

My start rating is related to my hassle only, cannot yet speak to the longevity of this product but BEWARE, if you select a different color kegerator, you will lose features on the stainless steel model. The stainless model does NOT have a digital thermostat. I cannot imagine why this would simply show as a different color option when the features are different. I debated the black or stainless color and decided the stainless would look better in our bar. We got this home, assembled it fully and plugged it in only to find there was no lit digital display where the thermostat should be, just blank plasitc. Turns out, that isn't available on the stainless steel version. Don't make the same mistake!

    Broken Door

    Posted
    Brad

I have not begun using it yet, since its a Christmas gift, but I did take it out of the box to inspect it and I noticed that the door was broken. Whoever assemble it tried prying the door onto the hinge pins, rather than unscrewing the hinges and installing the correct way. This resulted in the top pin being bent and the door unable to stay on. I took it apart and straightened the pin and installed the door correctly. Whoever is assembling these should be instructed on how to do it. From the scratches, it looks like they tried everything they could to avoid unscrewing the hinges and doing it properly. I recommend inspecting the unit before accepting delivery.

I’m sorry to hear the unit was damaged when you received it. It is eligible for return or exchange at your local Best Buy under the Holiday exchange period, so this may be your best recourse to get this issue corrected. - Jon, Insignia Support BBY-ExBrand_Insignia

So, this would be great if the CO2 connection (provided regulator) didn't leak! I'm on my first 1/4 keg and just went today to pick up my 3rd gas cylinder! I'm surprised by the hard washer included, why not a more pliable type for a better seal? The provided gasket also has a small piece that sticks out probably from it's manufacturing process that looks like it might affect the seal. I've tightened the nut snug, tight, and then really tight, thinking i finally had it sealed but nope. So, then i figured I probably deformed the original gasket and installed the spare included with the regulator...ran out of gas again! Now I have purchased a internal type gasket online and will install before connecting the third gas tank...we'll see how this goes.

Little hard to dial in temperature without freezing and ruining your beer and instructions don't help much. Took me a keg and a half to get it right along with co2 pressure. Doesn't come with enough beer line and tower isn't too great but gets cold and runs quiet. Lots of foam until I got temp, longer line and a tower cooler and sleeve. Overall ok for the money and works good, just needs about $100 more worth of upgrades to eliminate foamy kegs. On 4th keg now and still going.

    Best Two Out of Four

    Posted
    Mike

I grabbed two when they went on sale just before Christmas. Shipped to the door for no extra charge was nice. I picked the worst looking of the two boxes first. The box, while beat up badly did protect the unit. I was happy. The second one was absolutely destroyed. The top smashed to pieces. Local Best Buy took care of ordering another which arrived very quickly. It looked good, but sounds like a constant chirping bird when on. So, back that one goes. Number four arrived today and the door rubs against the top but otherwise looks ok. I'll let it sit a day and see how the compressor sounds. Hopefully I can adjust the door and keep #4. Knowing what this unit could be, I am hopeful.

The good..... It cools nice, has lots of room, looks good. It functions very well, it has a nice tap and good tap tower, and the price is low. The Bad.... The way the tap tower attaches is extremely flexible. It probably would never break, but the way it moves and bends around is surprising. It's surprising because someone in design put it together and had to say yes this is ok, and that blows my mind. It works mind you but the movement makes it seem really cheap.

Door fell off, when opening up the box

The unit came and the door fell off. Someone tried reversing the door, and bent the top hinge pin. The hinge pin bushing was damaged. Called Insignia. They could not give me a new bushing, because they don't have spare parts. They offered to replace entire unit. The bushing was useable. I bent the hinge pin back, and hanged the door back on. I completed the hookups. The unit seems to run fine for now. Wish they had spare parts.

This kegerator was my first so I was originally oblivious as to what makes a kegerator superior to another. After have it for many months I have had to work out the kinks that come with this model. It needs longer beer lines, and some sort of air circulation inside of it. After you tackle those issues it’s not half bad.

Great for the price but that caveat is important to note. First time assembly of tap lines is quite frustrating, tap handle is not smooth operation, jiggles a bit at base of tap on fridge body as well, hard to regulate for right amount of head..however for th price great functional fridge for draft beer at home

What a difference a few dollars in parts would have made. Unit is ok, but really needs a fan to circulate airflow when using a half barrel.. The unit will not get cold enough otherwise. You shouldn't have to modify an item to have it work properly.. Other than that.. It's ok

Works great but every beer i pour it is 75% foam. From the research i have been doing i am guessing the hose is to short. Comes with a 5ft ish hose and from what i read it should be around 10ft. I am going to barb some hose together and see if that helps.

Good for the money, you can convert to mini fridge when not using for beer. Tap tower is flimsy and can get warm if used in a hot environment. Poured 15 full 1/2 kegs so far with no issues.

Had to take 1st one back due to keg freezing. The second one has to be set on the warmest setting in order for the keg not to freeze.
