The instructions were not very clear ("hold until the LED blinks" - which LED? The whole remote lights up, not just one button) and when I completed the steps in the manual, the TV turned off when I pushed the newly programmed button. I ended up returning the remote because that was the ability to program an app shortcut was biggest reason I purchased it (I looked for online help and couldn't find any).

I recommend reading thru the book and seeing up activities, otherwise you may not like the remote as much. Once activity is set up with cable and TV, the remote works great. I only gave a 4 star because it took a good but to set up.
