When I found out the problem was the cable I was told by customer service over the phone that the DisplayPort cables on Amazon were not up to stranded and that I should go to Best Buy to get one. If you have a gaming pc and want to use DisplayPort avoid the ones from Amazon and get this cable.

Gsync/ Freesync Monitors

Nvidia wont enable gsync unless you have DP. Save yourself some money and buy a freesync monitor and DP cable for your nvidia cards.

These are an appropriate length and the connectors and fitting to cable is well finished and not a problem with the display port jacks on either monitor or HP workstation.
