There is no real perceivable difference between regular plating and gold plating. save money and get this cable versus the overpriced gold plated one. i mainly use it for going from my laptop to my TV for working (not watching video or playing games) so it works fine. For basic stuff (cables, keyboards, mice, etc) Insignia is an OK brand to buy. I personally wouldn't buy any of their high-end stuff (TVs, etc). But that's just my personal preference.
