Yes, I have confirmed both the ports and the devices work with other cables. This one is either incompatible with thunderbolt / display port gen 1 (whatever is on 2011 macbook), or it arrived broken.

HDMI side to the computer

DOES NOT SUPPORT HDCP (no prime video or netflix)

You will end up with an error message complaining about the lack of HDCP support and Prime Video won't play back in full HD. What a waste of money. Tested with 2015 MacBook Air. At least it's of decent quality but still disappointing for the price.
