I feel the bright red lights, and even newer, more decorative blue led lights on the power strips I have had in the past have often added unnecessary light to my room at night, possibly disturbing my sleep. I know I could turn them off and in fact, that's what I've been doing, but with this power strip and my new router, I now have the option of leaving everything on but just not having any lights. All the light might have been contributing to my ocular migraines as well. It's a very uncomplicated, basic power strip and I think that's good. I mean basic in a good way. I know there is a slightly larger insignia power supply too and it looks like it has no lights either. One suggestion I have for them (and by they i mean Insignia) is that they add a usb charging dock exactly like GE's surge protector with the model #11824, that's the one with the very bright blue led lights I mentioned before. I do like the blue lights sometimes, i just wish i could turn them off, and it might be better for me if it didn't have them at all. I bet many people feel the same about power supply/power strip/surge protector lights. If they (insignia) are going to copy GE and add usb charging ports though, I do suggest that they try hard not to get caught for some sort of infringement of intellectual property violation. Other than that possible small future improvement of a usb dock, this power strip is perfect.
