    USB Transfer Cable

This is a cable with 2 Type A connectors (the common large flat connector). You plug one end into one computer, the other end into another computer. There is a processor and some flash memory in the cable itself, so when you plug it in, it launches a non-install application (that is, it runs from the cable and does NOT install anything on your computers). The application shows a split window, with a File Explorer-like interface in the top and bottom. Top shows one computer, bottom shows the other. Drag and drop stuff back and forth between the computers. Simple! Easy! Fast! And a LOT less hassle than going back and forth with a USB Flash Drive (especially if you have a Large quantity of data to transfer, or if you are updating and moving files a lot.) I use this at client sites - many clients don't want non-company computers plugged into their networks, and even when they permit it, then establishing a connection to another computer (as opposed to simply getting to the internet) is a problem. This cable makes moving projects from my work computer to client system a snap! Great device! Goes in my computer bag as a permanent addition! Directions say it works PC-PC, PC-MAC and MAC-MAC. I have only used it PC-PC so far, so I can't vouch for the other arrangements, but I have no reason to think they would not work just as well.

I bought this cable to transfer my files and settings to my new computer. The set-up was easy and within a couple of minutes I was looking at all the folders on both computers. All the info I read including the brief instructions, said the transfer would be automatic! It would transfer all files, list programs to reinstall, and provide links to other internet programs I had installed on my old computer. Great! But all I saw was every folder I had on both computers. And it stopped. After much searching, and climbing the chain of Microsoft support personell, and a subsequent link to yet another website, I found in the fine print at the back of the FAQ's that if you are transferring fron a 32 bit system (windows XP) to a 64 bit system (my new windows 7), the auto transfer won't work, and you will have to manually select which files to move, and hunt for what ever programs you want to reinstall - the 64 bit version of course! It would have been a lot less frustrating if I had known that up front, say an FYI on the product packaging or at least in the instruction FAQs. The manual transfer worked fine.

My husband bought this to charge his portable charger. He wanted something longer than the mini cord that came with the portable charger. We attached the USB to the charger then attached the USB on the other end into a plug. Plugged it all into an outlet. No charge. We attached it to power up from my computer as I do for my iPhone at times. No charge. We hoped it was the cable and not the new portable power charger. My husband pulled out the mini cord that came with the portable charger and it worked fine. Must be the cable. I asked for the packaging so I could return it for him. I read the box. The cable was NOT FOR CHARGING!! The cable is for fast efficient movement of information from one device to another. The double USB cable is not defective. The moral of the story is to be sure you know that you're buying. Read!!

This is not a basic transfer cable, be aware that it has built-in software that precludes it being used in a conventional manner. Also be aware that the built in software may or may not work on your Windows 10 computer. Out of 5 I tried it on the application repeatedly crashed on 3 and worked on 2. Unfortunately the 2 it worked on are not the ones that I need to transfer data between so it was a complete fail. Better yet, the software on those 2 computers did not recognize a connection so oops, even if they had been the right ones it would not have worked. Only buy it if you have time to try and return if it fails. Do not buy it if you just need a basic cable as it only works with its own software as far as I can tell.

I bought a new computer and was telling the sales person how much I dreaded transferring all my information from the old computer to the new one. He suggested that I purchase a data transfer cable and honestly, I owe him because it made the whole process so much easier, especially when it came to moving all my photos! It was very easy to use, the software is contained within the cable, you plug each end of it into a USB port on each computer, it sets itself up and is really a cinch to use. The cable itself was not expensive so I would definitely recommend the purchase of one in conjunction with the purchase of a new computer.

I recently upgraded to a new desktop tower. The old tower was still working, but I needed to move up to a faster computer with more memory. Once the new machine was set up, I plugged in the transfer cable to both computers and was transferring files within minutes. The cable comes with built-in software that displays both computers on one screen. You just select what files you want to transfer, select where you want to put them on the new machine, then transfer. You can even click and drag if you like doing it that way. I didn't want to transfer all the files and this cable, with its software, made it easy to select only what I wanted on the new computer (the old computer will still be used, but in a lesser role). This cable worked great for my needs.

Bought this cable to transfer data from XP Professional to Windows 10. Software loaded fine. Drag and dropped worked. I just kept getting errors if I tried to drag and drop more than 50-60MB of data. Less than that worked well. But the whole reason to get this cable is to move large amounts of data at once. Insignia tech was useless. Maybe the problem was because the XP had USB 2.0 and the Windows 10 had USB 3.0 ports and XP couldn't keep up. Either way, this cable was useless for what I wanted. Oh, and Best Buy's ridiculous 14 day return policy meant I'm stuck with it. It makes a unique leash for walking my dog though.

This cable was recommended by my associate when I was purchasing an upgrade desktop computer. It is so simple... Nothing to install. Just plug the two computers together with the USB cable. The application starts and shows you a file structure of the old computer and the new computer. All you need to do is drag and drop the files you wish to move to the new computer. Piece of cake and it transferrs fast. Don't try migrating files without this great tool. The price is cheap and a great value.

OK, so I had an old Dell and an old Gateway (I know....a friggin GATEWAY!!). I bought the Lenovo Y70 to replace the Dell desktop and we had 40 GB of "stuff" on the Dell that had to be moved. Pictures, videos, etc, I plugged in the transfer cable and both machines popped up the window showing the remote & host PC. I just dragged and dropped all of the files from the Dell to the Lenovo.....it took less than a half hour. Videos take the longest. the picture files FLEW over to the new drive. Easy. Simple. In fact, this is so simple, my 75 year old MOM could do it. I recommend it. Anyone who says it doesn't work may have trouble doing things like brushing their teeth. This is as easy as it gets.

Have you ever tried using those Seagate or Western Digital mini hard disk drive that you have on your MacBook and connecting it to Windows 10 PC? I tried 2 of them & I thought for a moment they both died. W10 can’t even detect a hdd was plugged in. I learned later that Macs can read hdd intended for windows but not the other way around. This Insignia Transfer cable solves this problem & it automatically loads it’s own program to both machines. No need to download anything just plug and play. Now, you can transfer files, photos, documents etc between a PC & Mac and vice Versa. What a life saver!

Wanted to transfer lots of files from older Toshiba laptop to new T laptop, and save myself the hour+ of using thumb drives. Plugged this in, did all the steps: Nothing. Cable Connect does not happen. Tried every possible USB socket, reread the brief directions, read the sparse help on the 'Insignia'/BestBuy community site, called Insignia and the off shore guy had zero clue and was zero help: kept reading menu to 'turn on both computers, etc. I must be one of the few unlucky ones, as this $20 cable is not worth tying something up with... Computer savvy here. No Luck. Skip this prod and buy a real brand from somewhere else.

When I told the Best Buy *employee* that I needed to transfer pictures to and from a digital photo frame, this is the product he showed me. However, I was completely unable to use this, because this product is specifically designed to transfer files *between two computers*. I could do nothing with this device and my digital photo frame. A little product knowledge or technical knowledge on the part of the Best Buy employee would have saved me some time and frustration. I assumed Best Buy would have a simple USB cable. I did not bother to try and exchange the device but simply returned it. Maybe I will have better luck elsewhere.

I purchased a transfer cable to use in moving data from my old equipment to my new one. I talked with a sales representative, who helped me select the cable that he said would work. Later that week I was at Fry's and stopped by the service department to ask a question about using the cable during the transfer. They informed me that I didn't need a cable if I was using Windows, as there is an Easy Transfer program built into Windows. Although he would have lost a sale, I wish the tech at Best Buy would have given me this information. I would have been more likely to return and ask questions about future purchases.

This product is of no value, it does not perform as advertised. Instructions (total of 2 steps, Plug in cable, click run), do not accomplish anything and there is no way to continue. Nothing on the box or the instruction sheet tell you how to install it or transfer files. In my opinion, companies who produce these products and/or print the useless instructions, should be required to use it themselves prior to inflicting it on the public.

This was the first time I used a transfer cable and I must say I didn't know what I was missing... The only thing I ever hated about getting a new pc was knowing I was gonna have to sit and download countless hours of programs and end up losing stuff I would forget..not anymore... this was extremely easy to move the data from old pc 2 new one..Best thing about this cable is that the software is built into it,,no disc needed,,no install needed just really plug and go.... it's a must have..saved me hours of disgust and frustration..now I am in love with my new pc from the start...lol...

the first thing I did was plug one end into my laptop and the other end into my desktop. According to the tech person with outlook I had to call to install the program online, they said I had caused my brand new laptop to have some bug that came thru the wire which did not allow outlook to load onto my computer. also, I am not sure if you can just plug in the wire and use programs on the computer to transfer stuff thru this wire. the one time I have used this, I had a the problem with the bug being transfered and have not used it since. I dont know enough to be able to recommend this to anyone

The transfer program ran for a while, but eventually gave an out of memory error message when I tried to transfer a large amount of data and files between my old PC and my new one. I wound up using a USB hard drive for the large file transfers. Nevertheless, the transfer cable was convenient for transferring smaller miscellaneous files. I thought about returning it at first, but then changed my mind and decided it was worth the price as long as I didn't try to transfer bulk data with it. I would recommend it to a friend within those constraints.

I needed a cable that transfers information from one computer to another. This is the best cable and simple to use. Instructions tell you to have both computers on, then the one with the info is where you plug the cable into first. Easy then plug other end to other computer thats receiving the info. 2 screens pop up and just click from top screen your file and paste to the other screen. Done

I really needed to concentrate on the instructions and make sure I opened both computers at the same time. I thought the instructions could have been more clear. Seemed like it took a long time to transfer files. I finally hooked up an exterior hard drive and downloaded my entire hard drive out of my old computer. I then connected to my new computer and should I need to retrieve something I can get it from the exterior hard drive. Much faster than the transfer cable.

If you've ever used an FTP program, then you'll find the software included a breeze. Somehow, it is right there in the cable! Truly speeded my way through moving hundreds of files. You do have to refresh occasionally to see files in the new location. Glad to have it. PC to Mac, PC to PC transfers.
