He had a new cable and the problem was resolved. Total tech has been worth the investment. They had a new cable and brought a new DVD player just in case.

I'd expect it to at least be braided with a velcro cable strap for this price. Works like it should, but that's no surprise considering this is just a very basic and quite old USB standard.
