I had to purchase this generic power cable for my laptop when we arrived at our destination and I realized I had forgotten to pack the one that came with my laptop. The Best Buy sales person I spoke to said that it would power up my Dell laptop, but wouldn't charge the battery as Dell had made some hardware changes that required their own power cable to charge the battery., I didn't think that would be a problem since I usually leave my laptop plugged in anyway. However, when I actually started using the generic, my CPU jumped to 100% just about all the time and my laptop ran excruciatingly slow. I initially thought that there as a problem with the laptop itself and actually did a reinstall of my Windows 10 on the laptop, all to no avail. I managed to get the work I needed to do done, though it was slow and agonizing. When we returned home, it was my intent to take the laptop to the Best Buy Geek Squad and have them do a thorough check up of the laptop. But when we got home, I plugged in my original power cord and lo-and-behold, things started working perfectly. I did plug in the generic to check and sure enough CPU usage jumped to 100% and things crawled. Plugged back in the Dell power cord and things went back to normal. So if you're running a Dell, beware that you may end up with the same issues I had.

My bunny chewed through the adapter that came with my Toshiba laptop. I didn't have the time to wait to order a replacement from Toshiba, nor did I really want to pay what they would charge, so I went to BestBuy to get a "universal" one. A sales associate was very helpful, and helped me locate one to work with my laptop. This was very easy to use. The package included instructions on how to choose the correct nib, but in case you weren't certain, the package provides both a phone number and a website to enable you to locate your exact computer make and model. It works great! My only complaint is that it is bigger and bulkier than the original, but considering it is to accommodate a variety of computers, this is to be expected. On the plus side, it doesn't seem to get as hot as the original adapter when charging. While I do miss my original, due to its compact size, this is a great alternative -- reasonably priced, and works well. So, I guess the moral of the story is to keep wires away from your bunny if you don't want to have to lug around a bigger adapter! (She was very sneaky about it -- I had just shifted my position a little, and she came by very quietly, stood up on her little hind legs [hocks in bunny lingo], pulled the thing right out of my computer and ran away! I'm always very careful about these things -- I don't want people to think I put my bunny at risk! I just hadn't realized the wire dropped a bit from my lap, and she took full advantage of the situation!) I would definitely recommend this to others.

    Not for ASUS ROG

My charger had died and I needed a new one ASAP. This was available in store and had the correct tip for my ASUS Republic of Gamers laptop. It worked like a charm, until I actually tried to play any games. While plugged in and in-game, the charger constantly disconnected and would reconnect every 5 seconds; this would cause my game to lag (even though I had excellent internet connection and even reduced all the games graphics), my screen to flash, and would cause my laptop to not charge and deplete my battery. I looked online as to why all this was happening and found out that the charger simply wasn't producing enough power for my laptop to use while gaming. I had even brought in my old charger to get all of the specs needed to make sure it would work, clearly the employee (super nice, don't get me wrong) didn't check everything or thought that because it had the correct tip, that it would be okay. While yes, it did work and did fit, it doesn't suit Republic of Gamers laptops or any gaming laptops that use much more power than regular laptops. I am getting a refund for this since I found a better charger; however, I would recommend this for people who need a replacement charger for regular laptops; just make sure it has the correct tip before buying (bring your charger in!)

I bought this charger for my HP pavilion dv6. I was aware of the fact that, all chargers are not same and it varies according to company model no and all. Hence on safe side, I went to purchase charger with my laptop at store. Unfortunately, they didn;t have HP Charger in stock so sales rep, showed me this product and mentioned that it's an universal charger and it will work with your laptop. I bought that, as soon as I plugged in, within few mins I had "Dotted Line" on my screen. ( Permanent Damage to my laptop) . I talked to Best buy about that , according to them it's a product fault and I had to contact Insignia. I contacted Insignia, after few days of investigation they came to conclusion that although it's damage due to charger, my laptop is not under their compatible product list..!! hence they didn't take the responsibility of the damage neither Best buy. It might be compatible with your product. But when it says on the packaging that it will work 100% guarantee, I am like..Well it didn't. Just make sure before you plugged in..!

DON'T BUY if you have a Dell laptop!

If you own a Dell laptop (mine uses tip #29), this adapter won't charge it. When you plug it in, you'll get a message informing you that your computer won't charge and it'll run slowly; both of those things do indeed happen. In fact, not only does it not charge my laptop, it also can't even hold the charge at the current level. It's effectively just a battery extender (only less useful since you have to plug it in), because as you use it the battery continues to drain, at a slightly slower rate than it would when it's unplugged. And in case you're thinking you can just leave it plugged in overnight with the laptop shut down and it'll charge, you can't; it will be at the exact same level as it was before. On top of that, when it's plugged in your computer goes into some ultra-low performance mode where opening the Start menu and adjusting the volume become ten-second tasks. I will be returning this as soon as possible.

My dear daughter, a working college student, left her laptop charging cable half way across the state, when she returned home she realized the catastrophe, a laptop on 2% with a paper that needed to be turned in, it was as if she had to scramble an X-wing to take out the death star. BB-8 prime wouldn't deliver on time, the next closest droid was R2-BestBuy. She took off in her Pod racer, and returned home, but, the force was not with my young Jedi. Upon opening the packaging and trying every, single, adaptor tip, the pass codes to unlock the power supply just didn't work. Unfortunately the mini- millennium falcon, was a few years to old to be included in this "multiverse" adaptor kit. However, she did discover, she could call the company and they would supply the correct adaptor tip via a United Space Postal Slug. The adaptor did arrive, free of charge, much to the disappointment of Jabba. The Force was with my daughter that day. And now we have several spare adaptor kits that fit several different laptops... Just in case Boba Fett, decides to take anyone else's charging cables in the house. May the force be with you. (Yes.. I typed this for my mom. Don't ask, no Ewoks or Porgs where injured in the making of this review)

I bought a Lenovo laptop computer. The computer was not charging. I noticed the adapter cord was damaged but the cord was so short and cheap that it may have gotten crimped in my recliner although I don't think so. Because I wasn't sure, I bought from Best Buy the universal cord with the various tips. The Lenovo tip was the wrong one. Best Buy told me it would work but they couldn't order the correct one for me if it didn't. I would have to go through the manufacturer which turned out to be in China and I was unsuccessful getting one because that site had hundreds of cords for over 100 different versions of my model except the one I needed ending in US which I am thinking was for the United States. I have bought every computer I have ever owned through Best Buy (so many as I am an accountant). I have always bought HP in the past but the sales guy said he actually thought Lenovo was the better computer. While searching frantically for a new power cord I found this problem is quite common. I should have reviewed before buying but I was desparate to get something quick and you guys have always been great with me and my computer needs and have bailed me out many time. I love your geek squad. I am very disappointed.

I've bought this product twice now and each time fails after a year or less. EVERY time I use my lap top it's not charged. When I use my lap top while its plugged in my screen flashes battery mode, ac mode battery mode ac mode the whole time I use it. As a result the plug over heats, I cant refresh or hit the back arrow or do anything that is in the left upper corner of my computer! I should not need to buy a cord every year for a laptop that doesn't leave the house or a charger that doesn't get pulled or pinched or damaged in any way. I've made sure all parts of the cord are snug and where they need to be. So its not an issue of loss ends or not plugged in all the way and my computer has been professionally so its not the computer. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH PRODUCT!! DO NOT BUY unless you are ok with throwing away about $50.00 EVERY year or less

This came with 6 tips and an assurance that if the tip you needed was not included, you could order it, at no charge, online. After checking which tip I needed and checking all the tips in the box, I determined that the tip I needed was not included. I went to order it online, but received a message that the tip WAS included in the box I bought. I checked again. Not only was the tip not included, it was not listed anywhere on the paperwork that it should have been included. I called the 800 number and the guy told me the same thing, the tip was in the box I bought. When I stated again that it was not, I was told to take it back to the store and get the "right" one or to order the tip I needed and pay for it. I went back to the store to return it and was told they only carry one universal adapter. I returned the product and will never buy another product from Insignia again.

Dell doesn't recognize this power supply

I bought three of these power supplies. I'm the Net Admin for a school, and I bought them for doing laptop maintenance. I tried using them on several Dell laptops, all the same model number: Dell Latitude E5450. In every case, during power up, the laptop showed an error message during bootup that said, "The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge." I have attached a picture to this review so you can see the complete message. I was using the correct tip, included with the power supply in the package. These power supplies may work fine with other laptops - even other Dells - but your experience may not be everything you desired. I'm keeping them to try using them with other laptops, but I had to purchase official Dell power supplies for the Dell Latitude E5450s.

    Flimsy, Broke Inside my Laptop

The charger which originally came with my laptop had a run-in with a kid which left the tip of the charger snapping off the chord. We bought this one to replace it, and after a separate but similar incident, the same thing happened again-- only this time, due to the way the charger is made, it snapped right at the tip and nothing was left connecting it. It snapped clean off in the port and we could not get it out. We were finally able to pierce a piece of the plastic with a very long and thin screw-driver head, and tug it out. It was horrible and I have no idea whether the port will still work or not. We're waiting on a replacement part to find out. The force applied by the incident this time was not even particularly intense-- the connection between the tip was very poorly-formed and unusually weak. My old laptop charger was much sturdier than this one.

I bought this laptop charger after a year of asking a friend who borrowed my original one for her HP laptop. I finally broke down and decided since I wasn't going to get my original one back, I'd better find a replacement. I searched the internet stores for a replacement, but most were very high priced. So I went to my favorite Best Buy store and asked their service personnel for help and she directed me right to the one I needed. And the best part was that it was a quarter of the cost of those being sold in online auctions and internet stores. And this new charger works great and last very long on one charge. ( I guess I can stop begging my friend for my original one back! LOL) I would definitely recommend this replacement for any lost chargers for laptops of any of the 10 models it works for.

Dum-dum (that would be me), traveled out of town and forgot to pack his power cord along with his laptop. Frantic, with loads of work to do, I Googled the Best Buy closest to me, went into the store, looked at several power supply options and selected this one. The clerk was fantastic. He unpacked the item from its Fort Knox box, determined and found the right power tip to work with my made-to-order (off-brand) laptop, plugged it in and tested it to be sure that it was firing on all cylinders! Best Buy is always my go-to store for products and service. I also maintain an annual subscription to their Geek Squad technical service program and it has never let me down. I was playing with my new puppy in my bedroom next to my desk when I caught the computer cable by my foot and pulled the computer in the floor. The connector part of my computer cable broke off in the computer. The computer appeared to be okay so I made a Geek Squad appointment to have my computer checked out. (yeah Geek Squad security agreement!) The Geek Squad lady checked my computer out and pronounced it healthy. She then sent me over to the computer supply part of the store. The sales rep recommended this product because it was well built and had multiple connectors. I bought it and I am so glad I did. I cannot tell any difference between my new cable and the one that came with my computer. It was a real budget and life saver!

Packaging says guaranteed compatible with your product & free tip availability if not in the packaging. Got home did not have the tip I needed so called number in package. Goes to Best Buy customer service they have no idea what you are talking about. Transferred 3 times to get disconnected & I call back get different person same story they have no idea about this product or how to help I was transferred & that person said why did I not just take it back & they could help me in the store. Do not sure what good the number in the package does, took it back no one in the store could help me & they did not have an adapter with my tip so I just returned it & went to Staples there they even opened a pacakage so we could test & check tips before I ever purchased the product. They had exactly what I needed and was a great help.

As a product in its self, this charger worked very well. It fit my HP x13 360 with the included tips just fine, and it did exactly what you want a charger t do, charge my computer. There was no excessive heat that I recall. The product was a bit bulkier than I like, so on that level it might be a four start product. The reason why it gets knocked down another star is because of the manufacturer's decision not to make charger tips separately available. I no longer use this charger simply because the charger tips are not available on their own, and my kids destroyed the only included tip that worked with my machine. I did spend a little time seeing if I could figure out what the correct tip from radio shack might be, but ended up just buying a slimmer more purpose built (and cheaper) charger on amazon.

Needed a new power adapter for my Dell laptop, went to my local Best Buy store because I know they always sell the best products for items originally purchased there. I had originally purchased my laptop at Best Buy so I figured they would have the power adapter as well. Was shown by an associate where the adapters were located in the store, there was 5 different power adapters. I chose this one - The Insignia™ NS-PWLC591 , because even the packaging stated guaranteed compatibility for certain laptops, including: Acer, Asus, Averatec, Compaq, Dell, E-Machines, Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, HP/Compaq, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony or Toshiba laptop, because it has 6 tips for the various power adapters for charging. Great product, would recommend to others.

Last year I bought a used laptop from Best Buy. While it was a fairly good computer, a Asus gaming laptop it had one issue. Whenever you'd run a game it would go from AC to Battery mode. Alternating between the two while playing. I was disappointed and lazy in getting it fixed. For the longest time I thought there was something with the computer. Upon doing research I later found that it was more than likely a faulty power brick. I was shocked at the size of the one that came with the laptop. A few years prior I owned a Asus gaming laptop that came with a monster of a brick. Anywho, went to best buy saw that this guy covered my laptop and several others. Got home and it worked. No more issues. It was no fuss to set up. All and all I'm glad and lucky it worked.

Have a Toshiba and the power adapter all the sudden went out. Since no power to LED power light on laptop, I figured that was probably the cause. Picked this one up on sale at the time, but the cost was substantial. Although I did not look online for adapters or OEM parts specific for the laptop which may have been less expensive. However I needed something to prove that the power adapter was the problem and this fit the bill. It is a little more compact compared to the original brick, I also like the LED on Brick to know it is recieving charge. The replaceable adapter heads for the different makers was nice and luckily the Toshiba one worked well. It is also at a right angle which I like for less wear and tear. The original plug was straight and I always worried about breaking it due to how far it stuck out on the end.

The only reason we bought this was because our power cord stopped working and we had to get a fast replacement. It does power up the laptop, but the adapter won't stay in the port. It is so loose that it falls out at the slightest movement. We ended up using a twist tie to attach it the end of the cord to a large, thick rubber band and putting the rubber band around the laptop to keep the cord from falling out. I would only recommend this in an emergency and not as a long-term replacement. We had to buy a better power cord online and have it mailed to us as soon as we could because the rubber band / twist tie rigging wasn't acceptable. If your laptop is a different brand, it may be a better fit. Ours is a Toshiba.
