Works with Digital TV and analog TiVO Series 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am "cutting the cable cord". I bought this Insignia converter to run Over The Air (OTA) TV signals from my new digital antenna (the "Cord Cutter") through my TiVO Series 2 (which is so old it only accepts analog signals -- thus the need for the digital-to-analog converter box) and then to my flat screen digital TV. The TV works fine with the antenna already, but I miss being able to pause and record with my TiVO Series 2. I paid for the TiVO lifetime subscription in 2005, so I'd like to keep using it until this TiVO dies. At that point I'll upgrade to a newer system and, if I go with TiVO I'll pay the new monthly or lifetime fee. But not yet with this new Insignia converter box which is working well right out of the box. When it arrived, I first I plugged the coaxial cable coming from the digital antenna into the RF coaxial outlet on the converter box and performed the set up and channel scan per instructions that came with the converter with the TV on channel 3. It was very easy and fast. The converter box has a nice feature where it displays the antenna's current signal strength on a bar chart, so you can move the antenna around the room and see instantly how signal strength is affected. It's not a sexy interface, but very useful. To start the antenna-to-TiVO-to-TV set up, I unscrewed the coaxial cable coming from the back of the Comcast cable box that was previously carrying the cable signal into the TiVO Series 2 (meaning NOT the coax carrying the cable signal from the wall jack to the Comcast box which is now useless since I'm not using Comcast services for this set up). I attached that cable to the back of the Insignia converter box. In other words, I basically swapped the Comcast cable box for the Insignia converter. The TV signal came through the TiVO to my TV just fine. I can use the TiVO remote to change channels, check the TiVO Guide, pause, and record with the TiVO just like before. My TiVO Series 2 only had one tuner, so I can't watch 2 channels at once, but I never could before either. The only challenge has been to get the TiVO Series 2 "automatic channel changing to record" function to work properly with the Insignia converter box when I'm not around. This requires the IR cables from the back of the TiVO to sit in front of the IR bulb in the Insignia converter box that same way they did for the older version of the Comcast box. I haven't gotten that to work yet with the Insignia, and this will impair the TiVO Series 2's ability to change channels automatically to record programs when I'm not here to change the channel for it. But it's not clear yet if the problem is with TiVO compatibility, Insignia's, or both. I have a few more troubleshooting steps to go, so it may work in time. Given the amount of $ I'll be saving by running just off the antenna, I don't mind fiddling with this to make it work. Other than the automatic channel changing through TiVO, I have only one complaint about the Insignia -- it has something small rattling around inside. Not sure what it is or if it matters, but it's disconcerting. I can only here it when I pick the box up and move it around the room.

Get free tv without cable subscription
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you dont want to pay for cable then this does the job. However an antenna that is not included is required to pickup a signal for this box to work. I picked up 48 channels and im quite pleased.

Does the job
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although I had to run the setup twice, (because one of the channels didn't program), it was easy to get working. The only compliant is that as you change the channel, it lags a few seconds and the channel caption and show title lags about 10secs.

Old TV now gets reception
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This box, along with buying a Clear TV antenna for $15, has freed us from our $35/month satellite bill! We were able to get 12 channels, which is 8 more than I thought we could get! The box and remote are very easy to use. I'm very happy!
