Works great with Elgato HD60 X

I have it chained with a Philips 4-port HDMI switch, into an Elgato HD60 X capture card, into this, which sends the video to a monitor that doesn't have audio output, and the audio to a basic soundbar. If there's been no audio signal going through it, it can take a couple seconds for it to start passing along output, which is annoying but not abnormal for low-cost receivers (which is what this basically is). You could also conceivably put it in front of a capture card that doesn't support surround sound (like the Elgato I have) and send the audio to a separate audio mixer to get surround sound input for OBS.
Pick it up open-box if it's available, it's a better value and still works like new.

First off my bestbuy was a awesome help, the employee helpt me was very knowledgeable about the item and how to hook it up. Item worked just like it said, instructions were easy to read and understand. Price was a little stipe for what it does but if you order it online and have to pay for shipping it will come out to the same price.

This is a good product, but did have some minor connectivity issues. All in all it works great with my projector audio! It did take some work to set it up properly, and occasionally the projector wont recognize that its connected. This may be a projector issue rather than the convertor, but one i restart it works great!

I initially bought this so I can get surround sound from the HDMI of my Nintendo Switch and Wii U. Both those systems don't offer spdif output. But even with this device it didn't work. I later found out those 2 consoles only output surround uncompressed, which this device can't use. It only works for uncompressed stereo or DTS/Dolby Digital 5.1.

Great item to have if you need to get audio to another device. Commonly used with projectors or other devices that do not have an audio out. Works very good, make sure to read the guide to adjust the settings to your situation.

Useful for a PC to a Surround Sound System

Does what is intended to a degree for audio from a graphics card to a surround sound system. It won't push a Dobly or DTS codec from the HDMI port of the graphics card if you're only using it for the optical out (no video). You'll have to download a modded audio driver, edit the EDID, and use spatial audio from DTS or Dolby. I ended up buying a sound card because it kept causing resolution issues with certain games because it is viewed as an additional monitor. If you can live with that it does what you need it to.

I am running Bose 901 speakers on and older pioneer reciever that has no modern connection methods. This device takes the audio from your hdmi input and converts it to a usable analog audio that sounds phenomenally better than other methods, like optical to analog for example.

Had to extract audio from HDMI because my display has no speakers and no audio out. Works perfectly for this use case, and I imagine it works just as perfectly in every other of its appropriate use cases. Nice unit, and I love getting my gear from Best Buy whenever I can.

Works like a charm with my Astro a40 Gaming Headset and Ps5.
The only downside is this does not have an included HDMI cable like the Astro Optical Adapter comes with and in order to hook up successfully you need ypur Console HDMI cable Plus you will need one more HDMI cord to attach to back of adapter and them into tv..
Keep in mind you need 2 HDMI cords if you want to use an Astro Headset.
The device works as suppose to but it would have been nice to include the HDMI cord as the Astro adapter is $10 cheaper as well as includes the cord. So its possible but Insignia Best Buy with their device couldnt include it.
This is for a 2.0 HDMI setup and as of right now there are no 2.1 adapters. So, hopefully that gets made so other Astro users that have the newest tv’s can use their headsets as well.
