I spent more than I’d hoped but this little device has been essential in my theater set up in a fifty year old auditorium. I can pull the sound from the source to go through the auditorium speakers while displaying the movie on the auditorium screen for a movie theater like experience. Happy with the purchase, but not sure it shouldn’t be cheaper.

good addition with PS5 to use optical input. You lose 3d sound but 5.1 surround sound is awesome and you have equalizer to fine tune to your liking

Problem Solved

My TV’s optical output physically broke (pushed in). I needed an alternate way to get sound from the TV to my stereo receiver. I was using the INSIGNIA DAC (NS-HZ313) to make all this work. It worked fine until the optical out broke on the TV. I figured that I’d try this HDMI audio extractor instead. The sound is actually better going this route instead of using the DAC. The DAC worked quite well, but the HDMI extractor works better.

I have a 65" tv that the sound went out on I have a sound bar but to my dismay the sound from My PS5 didn't work through the TV and the PS5 does not have a sound output. This did the trick it easily split the sound from the HDMI coming from the PS5 and output it to the Optical output for my sound bar. Brilliant Just the perfect thing.

This device is pretty cool. My monitor doesn't have a port to add speakers. This device allowed me to hook up speakers when I play my game console.

For most folks this will work as expected, but for me it was stuck at 1080p60 on my 1080p240 monitor, i had to manually create a custom resolution to get 1080p240 to work. But it works, unlike some capture cards that can capture 4K60 and 1080p60 and refuse to tolerate high refresh rates.

Bought it to convert HDMI into sound and pic when adapted to a projector and external speaker system. Love the item, maybe overpriced.

I needed a way to pull the audio stream out of my HDMI input before sending it to a projector that had no audio output (unless I wanted to always watch silent moves). This fits the bill well and is easy to use with multiple output options so I can pick speakers that work for me.
Nothing super fancy, but does what I ask it.

Works as advertised but it's a bit messy - hooked into the back of a Blu Ray player then a pass through cable and a stand alone power adaptor connected to it. This wouldn't be needed if modern devices had more than just the HDMI out put.

Bought this to get an optical connection for my Xbox series x and my Astro A50s. It worked well but it was just too much overall money to spend when the headsets should be working better without optical. This also added too many cables and too many breaks in the hdmi connections.

Its perfect for somone that just want the simple 2.1 audio sound. I have my PS5 connect to this device for video feed to my TV and the audio which plays off my PC speakers. There is an option to switch it to 5.1 to 2.1 vice versa, which makes it awesome if I ever upgraded speakers.

If your using a cable box, this should be the first in the line of connection If not, some of these other devices ( such as using splitter, audio digital to analog conversion ETC) If you don't, some of these other devices may not work correctly.

If you have an xbox series or a PS5 you may have noticed a lack of a digital sound cable. Sony and Microsoft shortsightedly didn’t include one but this device solves the problem of not being able to use an amplifier. Unfortunately the maximum refresh to the screen is limited to 60hz @ 4K but most people wouldn’t notice it.

The extractor was easy to set up and did pull audio out of every HDMI stream I tried (Roku stick and Apple TV 4K). However, the best audio stream I was able to extract was recognized as Pro Logic II by my AVR and not 5.1 DD or DTS, despite digging into a range of audio settings on the Roku and Apple TV 4K. So, is it better than nothing? Yes... but I was hoping to pull the full 5.1 DD/DTS stream from the HDMI and have my AVR recognize it as such, and I wasn't able to achieve that. Ended up returning it.
