There is HDMI to RCA for going from a computer to a projector. There is RCA to HDMI to go from an old VCR to the TV. They are not interchangeable or bi-directional.

I have an old tube-type that was just collecting dust until I found this gizmo and after figuring out the resolution that worked best, I can now watch movies on the 36 inch tube tv that just used to sit there and collect dust.

Could not figure out how to connect blu-ray player through new speakers. Sales consultant showed my this and it worked great. Apparently blu-ray players don't have RCA jacks so this is exactly what I needed.

It plays great on my old retro games with this adapter cable looks great takes up all the screen.

It does its job giving me an analog signal but the signal is weak. I have to have my stereo volume up almost all the way to get good sound. There are vinal turntables that do not have a preamp. Operating this HDMI to RCA converter by connecting directly into the stereo is like connecting one of those turntables the same way.
