This means the the device has to be able to read the disc in order to clean it. If your drive is so dirty that it is not reading discs, then this may not be useful.

Not really sure if it was the reason for it to start working again. I shook my wii with the cleaning disk inside and it started working. Great product very cheap for how much you can use it.
