Pros; It worked right out of the box.
Cons; Did not come with the locking pin nor the padding (that's what I get for buying it as "Open Box") I don't move it around so it works just fine without it.

Appears to not like WD drives. Tried with two new SN570 and an SN730; all three threw I/O errors and could not execute an NTFS format command in Windows 10.
A Toshiba drive pulled from an HP laptop didn't come up either.
Meanwhile a Samsung PM981 drive worked fine in it.
(Yes, these are all NVMe not SATA M.2 SSDs)
The physical design of this enclosure is great, and the included USB C-A cable adapter ensures host-side compatibility.

My first ssd for my first Linux computer I built
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Bought this specifically to initialize a new nvme since we dont have a pc that has nvme slots on the motherboard. This case has a type-c that will plug into an android tablet that will force the initialization and then I will connect to my old laptop and format it for my raspberry pi 5 build that i just finished.
I also specifically bought this one because it has a heatsink on it as well. It was 1 of 2 that the company carried in store and they dont sell heatsinks for the nvme's they sell so went with this one. Wasted speed, but I can use the PCIe in my case so better than usb limits!
Only gripe is Samsung doesn't appear to give Linux users support for updating the firmware on these things....makes me worried about early burnout. If they did, I would give a 5 star rating since Samsung has only given me issues with bluetooth tech, not any other kinds of tech.

Great device, with awesome speeds. Super easy to use. I've bought 4 of them; 2 as gifts, 1 for work and 1 for home.
If you have bitlocker on a PC and you cant boot, you can at least put your drive into the enclosure, hook it to another pc, enter your bitlocker recovery key, and boom all of your data is there to transfer to another device.
One of my sons uses it as an external drive for his Xbox for more storage, my other son uses it to carry a suite of software utilities for work. I use mine for work for recovering data to prevent business impacting loss.

A pretty standard USB-C SSD enclosure all things considered. The material used for it does feel very nice and high quality, however. I used it to transfer my data from my previous drive to my newer, better drive, and while it did heat up quite substantially during the process, it seemed to handle it well enough.
Not too much else to say for the product - it does what it needs to very well, without any fuss or confusion. 10/10

My motherboard doesnt have another slot for an extra SSD so getting this and just plugging it into a usb 3.0 port has been a gamechanger, way less hassle than getting an entirely new motherboard. The included thermal pad is nice as well, very easy to use. I haven't noticed it getting very hot at all.

Saved the day when my grandma's desktop died

The Insignia M.2 NVMe to USB-C SSD Enclosure is one of those inexpensive tech accessories that ends up being incredibly handy when you really need it. I picked it up to help my grandma after her old desktop’s power supply died, and this little enclosure made it unbelievably easy to get her files off the old NVMe drive and onto her new computer. Setup was straightforward—just open the enclosure, slide in the SSD, secure it with the included hardware, and plug it into a USB-C port. Within seconds, her files popped up like the drive had never left the original machine.
Performance-wise, the speeds are excellent for a USB-C enclosure. File transfers were smooth and quick, which made the whole process painless. It handled large folders, photos, and documents without any hiccups, and there were no random disconnects or delays. It’s also fully bus-powered, so you don’t need to deal with extra cables or power bricks—one USB-C cable is all it takes.
The build quality is solid too. It’s sleek, sturdy, and compact enough to toss into a drawer or tech bag without worrying about durability. The aluminum casing helps with heat dissipation, keeping the drive cool even during longer transfers. It also feels more premium than the price suggests, which is a nice bonus.
What I really appreciated was how easy it made the whole situation. Instead of taking the old computer somewhere for repairs or data recovery, this enclosure turned a tedious chore into a simple plug-and-play process. It’s one of those tools you don’t think about until you suddenly need it—and then you’re glad you have it.
Overall, the Insignia M.2 NVMe to USB-C SSD Enclosure is a reliable, affordable, and extremely useful accessory for anyone who needs quick access to files on an old NVMe drive. I loved it, and it absolutely saved the day for my grandma’s data.

M.2 WITH HEATSINK WILL NOT FIT!!

The unit is made of high quality materials and feels pretty sturdy. It's essentially an aluminum surround, with a plastic insert that slides out to hold the M.2 drive, then slides back in and locks in place. Comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, instructions and a self-sticking thermal pad. ***NOTE*** This unit will only fit a SSD WITHOUT an attached heatsink. I recently upgraded to a higher capacity M.2 drive for my PS5 and got this unit to use my old drive in. Unfortunately, since the old drive has an attached heatsink, it was slightly too wide to fit between the internal brackets and was too tall to slide inside the aluminum outer housing. Will return and try to find another option.

First of all I had my doubts. We were having an issue with a different encloser that wasn't allowing us to get to drive via WD Dashboard software to update the firmware on the drive. Also, it was causing the pc to crash sometimes when searching the drive. Anyway. Got this encloser and we were able to access the drive via the software and did the firmware update. Pure Plug-N-Play. No, more crashing. 31.78°C (89.2°F) on the read and 32.17°C (89.9°F) on the write of a 3GB file. It's idle around 31.11°C (88°F). At 70°F ambient.
