Worked flawlessly the first time I used it. I transferred the contents of a 512Gb drive to a 2Tb drive. Perfect and about 40 Gb was done in under 5 minutes.

good enclosure. glad I did not spring for something more expensive. This option is budget friendly and gets the job done well. was running linux off an nvme ssd in this enclosure for a dual boot system for a couple months before making a full swap over and there was no difference between running of this and running off an internal SSD. that said I was only using it with a usb-c to usb-c connection since it is faster than usb-a to usb-c

It works really well. Installed a samsung 980 evo pro into it and was able to transfer files to and from it. I like the aluminum construction, but wish they provided a screw and stand-off for securing the ssd (they use a plastic piece). Make sure you use the cable provided with it, or one that's fully wired for full speeds. Cheap USB C cables often are not wired for more than the old USB 2.0 spec and will be slow or not work. I didn't try benchmarking it, but I would expect it to be slower than your system's pcie interface. It's not thunderbolt, so it will work on systems without it.

For the price and availability, I'm happy with the enclosure. It has a nice metallic quality to it and it comes with a heat sink. Furthermore, installing and swapping out ssds is easy.

Was able to extract all my data from my old SSD when I switched to a larger with no issues! Just do be sure to use the included heat pads, as it does get very warm.

Simple, elegant. Does what it needs to. A mounting holster to afix it to the laptop on the back of the screen would earn it that final star. Not dissapointed.

Great minimalist m.2 enclosure but cable is poor

2 of these in a row. Enclosure is workable. Same problem on both. The usb c to c cable gave very slow transfer at only 300kb/s. Odly enough, if I put the usb c to a adapter on, the transfer was increased almost 10x. I replaced the enclosure and cable hoping to solve the problem but same problem with new replacement. I'll use another usb c to c cable in the future or make sure to use the usb c to a adapter. 4 out of 5 because of price point. Otherwise it would be lower.

The Insignia M.2 NVMe to USB-C SSD Enclosure is very well-made, easy to use, and reliable. Highly recommended. If you already have an M.2 NVMe in your computer, or are thinking to upgrading to one, this is a "must have" item in your toolbox.

About 6 weeks ago, my main laptop stopped working after about 3 years. Unhappily, I realized I had not been backing up my data as well as I should, so problem. I checked and found that my broken laptop had a NVMe SSD, so I got this. Popped to back off of the broken laptop, took out the SSD and put the SSD in this unit. Connected it to new laptop via USB-C and was able to copy all data to new laptop in about 15 minutes. Geek Squad could have recovered my data, but charge was $100. This unit was $30. It saved the day

Put a Samsung pro 990 4tb and it’s been working great. The tab to secure the ssd allow enough room for the ssd to slide right in. I had to remove it, keep the ssd in place and then put the tab in. A little inconvenient and why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Not a big deal if you don’t plan on taking in and out it.

I've bought a few of these so that I can pull an old computer "hard drive" and continue to use the files on the said old computer. Used both this style and physical HD casings with good success. I have recommended this sort of set up to others who are loosing their computer to age or other reasons.
