The plastic pin allows for the ease of installation, and it has multiple spots for different sizes m.2 drives. The chassis is plastic, but the case is solid aluminum. You can tell when transferring data, that the aluminum acts as a pretty solid heatsink. Very good product overall.

I needed a case for my ssd. I wanted to build my own storage to get better speeds and I went with this external case. It work great very easy to install the ssd. I do use a 10gb cable but the cable that came with the case works great as well. About a month later i bought another one.

After doing a simple battery replacement in my laptop, the HD was not being detected. After hours of troubleshooting / research I decided to see if the HD would be recognized or boot externally, which it actually did. I did have to reinstall windows on the drive, but everything was downhill from that point. I am still using the HD in this external case (with no internal HD whatsoever), so I’m very please with this purchase.

A very convenient way to clone my existing 500GB boot drive to a 1TB to make up space limitations. 500 was fine but I recently started playing around with the Artificial Intelligence which tends to use a lot of Python with upgrades and other backend support progs and some items insist on C: for whatever reasons. Most of my data resides on separate hard drives for the AI models and such but this gives me headroom on my boot drive.
This can also be used somewhat like thumb drive with an NVMe card (which tends to offer higher capacities. It's easy to load a card, too. Just make sure your heatsink tape (provided for one card) is installed. It can get warm.

The enclosure worked great. Allowed me to increase the memory in my laptop as I used it to clone my existing ssd to a new larger one. In other reviews people stated that their ssd's would not fit and the plastic peg (locking device) that hold the ssd in place did not work. All you need to do is turn the locking device to the left about 15 degrees and it comes right out. When installing the ssd, there is a slot on the around the plastic peg. Push the ssd into place and then line the plastic peg slot with the indented edge of the ssd, then carefully lower the peg/ssd until the peg is in the mounting hole and turn the peg to the right about 15 degrees. The ssd will fit perfect and the pin locks it into place. Also, it comes with a pad to cool your ssd if you use it for an external drive.

I got this to make use of a sub par hard drive I had lying around. The case is very high quality. No issues and no frills. Very compact. I worry that it may overheat with extreme use, but I have never come close.

This thing is great. I used to use and external adapter to older types of drives to be able to move data for backups, cloning, copies, etc. This gives me that same capability in this brave new world of SSDs. Younger people can't imagine the slow speeds we used to live with.
