Ruined a DVD Disc

I bought this to fix a scratched DVD. Well it fix it alright. It rendered the disc completely useless. When the disc is put into a DVD player it will not play. When put into a computer it comes up asking "what do I want to do with this disc, almost like it does when you put a blank (CD-R) into a optical drive. Before trying to "repair" the disc I could at least get the DVD menu to load. Not anymore.
I don't even know if Best Buy will take this item back and give me a full refund since I've opened it.

Stay away, the crank is held on by plastic and is difficult to keep on and despite following the directions exactly and keeping the disc wet, it took a chunk of a PS1 games black underside off and striped some of the edge off. The game was booting and occasionally having issues but after running it through this it is now it is completely ruined.

we have a storage cabinet full of DVD's and some of them we have not played in a long time, so when tried to play one half through the dvd would stop or jump back to the beginning, so I knew I needed to go through and clean them, and it worked by not stopping or skipping.

Firstly, no where online or the specifications does this say it doesn’t work with Blu-rays which would have been nice to know before I grabbed it from curbside. To their credit, it does say so on the box, albeit on the back and very small as well as in small print in their absolutely terrible instruction manual, never seen a manual open like this, so you’re bound not to read it in the right order. There a six plain and simple steps, and no way to screw this up. I made sure it was dripping wet and this was the result. Absolute trash!!!! I tried this on a PS3 game that made normal wear on it, but was taking a long time to load. The drive didn’t even recognize the disc after! I checked other discs and it’s definitely the disc and not the drive. The streaks it says are normal like rubbed the actual layer off the disc. On top of that, the little arm it comes with barely stays on, I felt like I was gonna break it before it stopped popping off! Every cuss word in the book going straight to insignia!

Hi, Damon.
I appreciate you taking the time to share this review on our Manual Disc Repair. While I understand how frustrating this can be, the webpage of the product clearly states that this product is designed merely for CDs and DVDs, not for Blu Ray discs.

I love this machine! It's so easy to use and it cleaned my worse discs that wouldn't even play on my new did player and now I can relax and have sense of relief that I can still watch my movies that had all sorts of dirt and scratches on it! I'm just loving!

Pore construction with handle popping off, not locking in. The turning drive for the disc is not turning the disc when the buffer is moving, may have lost the disc!

I visited Best Buy IN DeWitt, NY, to look for an HDTV without knowing much about what was available. Salesperson Linda O'Sullivan was helpful in every way, from demonstrating various models and explaining their upsides and downsides to finally helping me decide on this 2016 SONY Brava at a great price. I have never dealt with a better salesperson anywhere. LInda is a Gold Mine for Best Buy in DeWitt, NY!

Doesn't work on Blu-Rays

I bought this not so much to repair discs, but to be a safe and effective way to clean the discs from grubby children's hands. In terms of operation, it's simple to use, you spray the solution, you rotate the handle, and you use the cloth to dry it. And what I like is that everything fits into the device (the cloth hides in the handle along with the solution.
But this is intended for DVDs. I'm not smart enough to know why Blu-Rays are different (thickness? different coating?). Anyway, I used it on Blu-Rays and it didn't damage the disc (it cleaned them actually), but the circular scrubbing pad broke. As in, the spokes broke. It's still usable, but I was disappointed it happened so quickly after purchase. My only other caveat is that I don't know if it broke because it was defective or because I used it on Blu-rays.
So I wouldn't say "don't purchase it" but you should just know what you're going to use it for. NOTE: the instruction manual, which I read after the fact, says it's not intended for use on Blu-Rays.

Contrary to what the poor reviews will tell you, it does work. You may need to put a disc through the resurfacing process more than once if the scratches are deep, but after a few treatments, even those will work flawlessly. You have to keep the disc's wet, though. If you try to run your discs through this dry, you WILL destroy them. The fluid that comes with the unit works great, but, when you run out, you can replace it with distilled water and it will work just as well. The only issue I have with it is how cheap it feels. The handle does come off as others have mentioned, but a few drops of super glue will fix that problem. It's nothing fancy, but it does what it says it will do. For $30, you can't really beat this Insignia resurfacer's results.

It was easy to assemble. The instructions were easy, too. We were able in just a few minutes to assemble it and try it out with a few discs. We were very happy to be able to listen to our music again. Thought we had lost all chance of listening to them again. They worked perfectly after using the disc repair system. Even the worst of the scratches came out. Awesome.

This disc cleaner works great at cleaning light scratches on CD's, DVD's and most game discs. very simple to use and straight forward, and as long as you keep the disc wet will do a great job. Directions tell you to make 2 full passes but Ifound that after 2 it leaves lines but on a 3rd and 4th pass the lines even out. But leave a "duller finish" on the disc. For that fix I use a tried and true method of approach of using a little regular creamy peanut butter to "wax" the surface afterwards(natural oils in it give a smooth clean reflective sheen). found that the repair kit works for around 15 or so discs before the very light abbrasive sandpaper in it wears out which is fine because the price is hard to beat for what you are able to do (much cheaper then buying a new movies or games).
The only bad things I have noticed about it is that it does not work for any type of mini discs such as Nintendo Game Cube games or Playstation PSP games due to location of where the spindal hole is in the disc( cleaner pulls discs in which puts the holes in the middle of the buffing wheel). the Buffing square could be a little larger and the ability to buy replacement wheels would be nice as well.
Over all I give it 4 stars for being easy to use and easy on the wallet compared to replacing a game or movie.

I'm one of those people who wants to try to fix something before throwing it away. CD fixers are hard to find - this is the only one I found anywhere but online. It's a bit lower on quality than I expected for $30, but it did fix 5 out of 6 of my CDs, which made it worth it to me. The one that I haven't been able to clear the scratches I think they are too deep. Ran it thru 3 times and it still won't play. So I'd say if they are fairly light scratches you're good, but don't expect a miracle.

My SO found a large collection of CDs we wanted to listen to, but several had scratches due to her daughter's mishandling. We decided on a whim to give this system a chance, and it worked great on light and medium scratches. It couldn't salvage a disc that looked like it had gone through a lawn mower, but we really were not expecting salvation of that disc anyway. Easy to use, great product.

I would recommend this for minor scratches. It comes with distilled water as a lubricant which does not help at all for scratch removal.
For heavier scratches I added some buffing compound to the disc surface and it helped much better. It started working on some of the deeper scratches.
Now this will leave scratches to the surface when being used, but not scratches that will effect disc reading.
I will warn you, if you have a disc that has a small crack on the center hub, this will put enough force on the disc to actually cause that crack to spread. I just found this out on an irreplaceable data disc I have. I was trying to save the data off of it before the crack got worse and this scratch reader out enough force on the disc surface to cause the crack to spread

I've been pleasantly surprised with how well this works. I'm pretty impressed by how it shines the discs up and eliminates minor scratches. My only complaint is that the wheel doesn't seem to be replaceable, meaning you will need to purchase a whole new unit.

It does an okay job on light scratches but that is all. It also wears out very quickly! It is a shame too because at $30 you would think it would be a better and longer lasting product.

I tried the DIY route of rehabbing discs with sand paper and rubbing compound and only managed to make my discs cloudy, this device however, has done a seviceable job.
I'm archiving my CD collection and attempting to get good rips with Exact Audio Copy (not lossless, but 200Kbps+) so I can put my libarry on thumb drives and listen in the car.
EAC will take forever on damaged discs, taking in excess of 5+ hours to rip. In any case, one disc had this issue, ran it through the device the recommended 2x, then put some rubbing compound on it -- get it from a place like AutoZone -- and it worked like a charm. Ripped the disc without issues.
So if I can repair several discis with this unit, it'll be worth the $30, as the DIY method was at least $15, was a lot more labor intensive, and didn't work.
So yeah, if you have discs with light scratches, it's probably worth giving this a look!

This was a great purchase. I wasn’t sure it would do the trick, especially for the price. Thankfully I took the risk and cleaned one of my favorite dvds that I have watched so much and is so old that it had more scratches than I thought possible. It worked! I was able to watch my favorite movie without any skipping! Definitely a great purchase! Only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 is due to it being impossible to take the crank handle out after putting it together making it difficult to store properly

The repair kit works great for about 17 DVDs, I would really recommend that they change the package to reflect that number as I did ruin a DVD by continuing to use it without changing the polishing wheel. Consider the cost of that one DVD vs the cost of the other 17 that the kit fixed, it's definitely worthwhile.
