Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a DVD that wouldn't play. The play surface had some smudged finger prints and light scratches. I assumed that was the problem. I removed the Insignia Manual Disc Repair System from the box, read the manual, sprayed the play surface of the disk, inserted the disk in the unit, turned the crank until the disk had made one full revolution (many turns of the crank), and played the disk. It played like a new one. This unit WILL NOT remove deep scratches. It is not designed to do that.

My children had some bad scratches on their games and we tried this little gadget with very little hope. It amazed me that lots of the discs where saved using this product...

Get a cartoon with show with 6 episodes, and you'll usually be lucky if you can get through even one without an error. This machine has rescued multiple DVDs for me, and keeps my kids happy! Great buy.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Usually Insignia products are a decent value for the price, unfortunately that cannot be said for this product. Cheap and flimsy feeling, this disc "repair" system did the exact opposite to my discs and etched light scratches around the entire surface of the disc (I read instructions multiple times and followed them carefully). They were still playable after this however, but still had the same scratches/imperfections in the surface of the media that caused skipping and freezing. Long story short, this did nothing but make the problem worse and repair nothing. I would give this zero stars if I could.

not a good purchase

The Skip DrX used batteries and rotated the disk and did a good job. The Disk Repair Kit you crank by hand and it does not do a good job of cleaning up the disk.

It destroyed a brand new DVD that I was trying to clean a little smudge of dirt from. There was absolutely no scratches before I "cleaned" it and when I took the DVD out to inspect, the dirt smudge was gone but left behind were a ton of tiny scratches.
