You can put it under your mouse, and it makes the mouse work better. Highly recommend this one because it's cheap and it gets the job done. However, I would not wash it in the washing machine. This would affect the quality of the mousepad.

It's the right size for basic use, a bit small for gaming. It's unobtrusive and portable enough to travel with. Also why are you asking me about ease of use. You put it on the table and then put a mouse on it. That's about as simple as you can get.

However, I bought a mouse pad with my $5 credit in the past. The cost was only $5 so it was a good deal. The pads have now increased to almost $8 dollars. Inflation?

[It was the cheapest one that Best Buy sells.] What really impressed me is that Best Buy sent this black mouse pad to my home. The shipping was FREE! The mouse pad with tax cost $7.48. I keep telling friends that I was shocked to find out that BEST BUY ships a parcel this cheap by FedEx.
