    I bought this to hook up my new tv to my old surround sound system. I was able to connect the optical out of the tv to the rca plugs on the stereo.

    When the digital to analogue converter works it is great. However, it requires power removal at times to work when the TV (digital source) is turned on to get an output to the tuner/amplifier (analogue receiver). for convenience, this required modifying the power supply cord to add a momentary SPST-NC switch.
