A very good option to connect new 4K TV's

I say the above statement because when you get a new TV that only has basically HDMI connections or only light digital connection and you have a older receiver/amplifier that only has RCA connection. This little box will do the trick when you use one of those digital light cables! Now it has one down side. That is that when you do this you are restricted to a 5.1 sound system! For me that was not a problem because most receiver/amplifiers that only have RCA connection only support 5.1 system anyway! Until I was in a Best Buy Store looking at new receiver/amplifiers a Best Buys man told me he could save me some money if I did not want to replace my old receiver/amplifier! I told him that I was interested and he should show me what he was talking about! Needless to say I thought that spending around $40.00 dollars was better than spending anywhere from $700.00 to $1,500.00 dollars for a new receiver/amplifier was a good idea! Now would it work good? For me it does work good and I am happy! Now if it is the right option for you? It all depends on what equipment you have and the amount of money you want to spend! Check it out and if it is not what you want you can return it to Best Buy. Just remember that Best Buys has a time limit that they will take it back! Hope this will help anyone who is in my position, who had a good older receiver/amplifier and needed a way to connect the newer TV to it! One other thing is that I have connected everything to the TV and then the sound comes from the TV to the receiver/amplifier through this little box! This way any sound that is going into the TV will go to my older receiver/amplifier and then to the speakers! Have some fun and go and try this little box. You may be as happy with the box as I am!

Very quick, very easy. Set up of my old system, disconnected the digital equipment and turned it on in 20 minutes. I used the optic cable running from my TV to the surround sound receiver (that's going out. That's why I decided to resurrect my old system). Unplugged at the SS and plugged it into the converter box optical input. Plugged the converter into my old amp with the supplied cable and BOOM! I have full, rich old school sound! MUCH cheaper than replacing the SS receiver and with better sound and control to boot. Audio is sync'd to the video perfectly without any delays. One day down, hoping it lasts a long time.

I wanted to control the volume of the TV sound thru my home stereo, and this didnt give me bolume cobtrol with the TV remote. Instead I splurged and bought a WiiM Ultra and my LG TV works great with it, including volume control on the TV remote, plus I get all the rest of the great features of the WiiM device. I didnt have to spend so much, but Im very pleased.

Because my new Sony blue-ray DVD player BDP-s6500 did not have a cluster of backwards compatible outputs for hooking up older equipment the Insignia™ - Optical/Coaxial Digital-to-Analog Converter - Black, is an elegant solution, was easy to set up, and performed flawlessly - incidentally it is also inexpensive considering what It does to facilitate compatible system integrations. Very Satisfied!!!!!

Analog heaphones vs TV without analog audio out

I bought a new 4k TV and afterward I realized it didn't have an analog audio (RCA or 3.5mm) output to plug my RF headphone transmitter into. I plugged my headphones into my DVR/Cable box so I could listen to TV since my husband works nights and sleeps during the day. Because my DVR didn't have any inputs that were compatible with my BluRay DVD player, I couldn't use my headphones for watching DVD's. I also had a sound bar system connected to my TV through its singular digital optical out. After analyzing all of the components and their various input/outputs, I came to the conclusion that I needed something to convert digital audio to analog which had both a digital coaxial input (for the BluRay), a digital optical input (for the DVR) AND an RCA audio output to plug my headphone RF transmitter into. Searched Best Buy and right away I found the Insignia Optical/Coaxial Digital to Analog converter. Went to my local Best Buy which had it in stock, bought the converter along with a digital optical cable and within 10 minutes of getting it home, I had everything connected and the ability to use my headphones with both my DVD and my DVR/Cable box, while leaving my soundbar system connected via optical to use when everyone in the house is awake. The sound through the converter is clear, good quality, and no lag. The other feature that the digital converter has that is necessary with this dual audio configuration is that it has a switch on the side that needs to be manually changed between coaxial or optical depending on which device you are using. But to me that is only a minor inconvenience and I am very happy to have full audio connectivity for my headphones. It also requires being plugged into an A/C power outlet. Thankfully that was the one thing I had plenty of. I discussed my plan with a Best Buy associate while I was in the store and he was very helpful answering my questions and made sure I had everything I needed to successfully implement my plan. I had considered a couple of other options, but this one was the most cost effective, had immediate availability of hardware, and simple.

Very easy to install. It's probably not the converters fault, but with the first TV setting of " Optical Audio Only" all I got on my stereo was noise. After choosing "Optical and Internal Speaker" it worked perfectly, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. There is a very slight delay between the two sources so it gives me a very cool echo effect that sounds like a huge theater but I generally turn the sound off on the TV. I have a very old stereo that still works great for me but compatibility issues come up every time I upgrade anything in the system. This product got me up and running again with Big Sound for movies I stream through my smart TV. I have a switched power outlet on the back of the stereo so it only powers up when that is on so I'm hoping it will last me a good long time.

Absolutely a great product, most of your T.V.'s or Dvd/Bluray players now a days don't have analog out for sound output for old school audio equipment. and I still use my trusty old Pioneer receiver from the 90's for my theater sound, This product makes it work perfect. I definitely recommend this converter to anyone trying use old sound equipment for newer T.V. / Video products that only have optical output.

Good little device especially for the price. It's easy to use and set up and works. Only issue was that sometimes it won't transmit audio and needs to be power cycled to work again. Seemingly would happen randomly when turning on the TV or audio receiver.

I purchased this in the attempt to my get Samsung UN6900 50" 4K HDTV to work with my Sonos Play 5. My older Toshiba 32" HDTV had RCA outs which connected to my Sonos via a RCA-Y to 3.5mm cable. Unfortunately, the newer budget TVs only have optical -- no more RCAs or headphone out/3.5mm. This item worked as described. However, I ultimately returned the device because my TV didn't support volume control for the fixed/variable audio output (kind of like HDMI/ARC), nor does the Sonos have infrared so I couldn't program my remote to control it separately. My older 2009 Toshiba TV supported changing the volume using audio output via RCA. I ended up purchasing a soundbar. Long story short, the device worked as it was supposed to and is reasonably priced.

There were two options to choose from. One on the Magnolia side of the store which was around $90 and this one. You have to buy the optical cable but it converts the optical signal to a red and white RCA connector so you can plug it in to an older sound system with ease. I bought an upgraded optical cable and the sound is great running from my Sony Bravia TV through a modest receiver out to two older B&O speakers. Definitely a great buy for the price and sound I'm looking for.

I purchased this item to connect my TV to the pre-amp of my audio system as my Samsung TV only had digital audio outs. I do not have a home theater system just a 2 channel system. I like to have the TV connected as most flat panel speakers are inadequate. This unit was perfect for this application. The price was right as I found an open box special. The unit is simple to connect and easy to use. I only gave four stars because of a lack of an on/off switch, but my research showed that most units like this do not have one anyway . Home depot to the rescue. For under three dollars you can purchase a single outlet with a illuminated switch, problem solved. I highly recommend this unit.

Hooked up to my TV with an optical cable, plugged in my earbuds and viola! sound. Way to simple and smartly priced. Helped correct, inexpensively, my TV's only flaw, a missing audio analog out which the converter corrected nicely.

This converter is perfect for connecting old audio systems to newer devices. My old Bose entertainment system has an optical input, but would not connect to my TV. I had to use analog cables to use the system. This device was perfect and easy to setup and connect to my TV!

Had an old analog receiver that I wanted to hook up to my 4k tv. Since the receiver had no HDMI outputs, I needed something to convert analog to digital and this little device really did the job. Hooking it up was a breeze and when I turned everything on all I got was a lot of noise. The instruction stated I had to switch the TV to PCM , which I had no idea what that meant. After a little research I finally figured it out and made the switch and walla! let there be sound! After a month or so, the sound went out. Disconnected and reconnected everything and everything was fine. Possibly a loose connection. This little device saved me the trouble of buying another receiver. My Bose speakers sound really great!

GREAT LITTLE DIGITAL TO ANALOG AUDIO SIGNAL CONVERTER USEFUL WITH MANY DEVICES THAT HAVE A DIGITAL OPTICAL OR COAXIAL OUTPUT TO FEED ANY SOUND SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T HAVE A DIGITAL INPUT. USEFUL WITH (TV'S, COMPUTER AUDIO INTERFACES ETC.) I USE IT WITH A MULTI CHANNEL AUDIO INTERFACE TO ADD TWO MORE ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUTS FOR EXTERNAL MIXING. FLEXIBLE AND REASONABLY PRICED WHEN ON SALE. COVERS SAMPLE RATES FROM 44KHZ TO 96KHZ SO IT HAS MANY APPLICATIONS WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK. I LIKE THIS LITTLE GADGET VERY MUCH SO I WOULD BUY MORE OF THEM AS NEEDED ESPECIALLY IF THERE ON SALE.

I upgraded to a new TV that had only digital audio output but I did not want to replace the analog equipment for no good reason. I acquired a digital audio cable, plugged it into the new high end 4X OLED 55 inch TV having a built in "sound bar" and the converter, attached the audio leads from the older TV to the converter, and plugged in the transformer brick. Worked immediately, almost like magic. Now I can mute the TV and plug in ear phones and watch TV and not bother the entire household. This item is apparently on 24/7 so hopefully it keeps working.
