The Insignia digital to analog converter performs as advertised. I used it to convert a TV''s digital optical audio/toslink output to an analog audio R/L stereo output needed for a wireless headphone system. and it works as expected. As a note, be aware that you will need an available power receptacle for its power supply and the TV audio output settings may need to be changed to only allow PCM 2-channel output to ensure compatibility. The price is certainly higher than many online alternatives, but the in-store availability from Best Buy adds some value.

I needed a converter from digital optical audio out on my TV to RCA audio in on my wireless headphones...this converter fit the bill. It works great out of the box however every so often I have to power cycle it when turning on the TV. To be fair, this could just be a Samsung TV or Sennheiser headphone problem, but it is not that frequent and things just work otherwise. I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others looking to solve the same problem.

I got a new Samsung 4k TV and as many have pointed out it does not have an analog audio out jack. I never use the TV speakers since I have a vintage Denon amp and very good JBL speakers. I do not use or care about surround sound since music is my main concern. I bought this to convert from Digital output on tv to analog input on the Denon. Works great and provides improved sound over analog. Only complaint is that I too have the occasion when I have to pull the power cord from it and reinsert to get it going which is an annoyance, but happens rarely. Have not figured out why. This unit costs considerably more than the ones you can get from the famous online competitor. I also own one of those and it works but the popping noise it creates when re-synching (change of channel for instance) is really annoying. This one pops at most once and only occasionally as opposed to at least 3 pops every time on the cheapie. I determined that you get what you pay for and will order another of these for my cd player. Only other complaint is that I wish it had a usb power cord instead of plug-in so that I could power it from a usb port on the tv, which might alleviate the occasional failure to launch. But overall a quality product that does what it is supposed to.

Nothing more to say really, but I’ll elaborate. I bought this as a compliment to the Insignia bookshelf speakers so I could connect my LG LED TV, which in turn has my PS4 and Switch plugged into it. I’ve had one other optical to RCA converter before that I bought on Amazon that introduced an unacceptable level of hiss to the audio, so I was highly skeptical of this one. Happy to say I have had no such issues, and it sounds fantastic at all volumes thus far. Do note that it requires power (AC adapter is included), so factor that in if you’re like me and have a million things plugged into your home theater already. It does come with an audio RCA cable as well which is a nice addition, and one less cable to buy. It makes a slight high pitched noise, but it’s not noticeable whatsoever at couch distance, and as stated previously does not translate to the speakers whatsoever. For less than the price of a sound bar I got this, an optical cable, and the Insignia Bluetooth bookshelf speakers, a combo I would strongly recommend over said sound bar. A little more setup, but audio quality and flexibility is far worth it. Very pleased with these Insignia products overall.

D/A converter creates headphone jack on TV

My recently purchased Samsung TV doesn't have a headphone jack. In order to use my older Sony RF wireless headphones I had to use this converter. 1) Plug in the small included power block on the A/D converter. 2) Connect an optical digital audio cable (NOT included) from the TVs optical out port to this converter. 3) then plug in my Sony wireless base station to the RCA ports on this converter. Instant headphone jack on my Samsung TV. TWO sound options. 1) Sound plays through both TV speakers and headphones. 2) Sound plays through headphones only. Option #1 with my Samsung 6290 TV is the default. To select option #2 you go into menu, select SOUND then SOUND OUTPUT then scroll down to DIGITAL AUDIO OUT. To go back to TV speaker just re-select TV SPEAKER on SOUND OUTPUT menu. Easy enough. Option #1 is good if somebody is hard of hearing but others are also watching the TV. Option #2 is perfect if only headphones are needed.

Does what it’s supposed to. Had to buy this to connect a new tab to an existing older home theater system. Kind of disappointed when I have setting on tv for optic + internal speakers the volume is controlled separate from each device. So if you don’t match the volumes correctly you get an echo

I bought a two person video game chair with speakers and a sub. The chair's speakers had to be plugged into the back of the TV; however, my TV is newer and only has the ability to output sound either by HDMI or Optical plug-in. I bought this and was up and running in no time. Definitely works great for what it is intended to do.

    Optical to RCA Converter

Purchased this to convert audio output from Samsung TV to RCA for input to old stereo tuner. Took awhile to mess with Samsung settings and finally fooled it to realize that there was going to be external audio. This is TV's fault. Once set up it works well EXCEPT now and then it doesn't and to get it going again I unplug it's power and plug power back in and all is well (not removing any of the other optic and audio cables or messing with side switch. To get around this I plan to place it on a switched power output on the old stereo amp which will also save a little power when I'm not using the amplifier (which I mostly use for movies). I did not see any way of changing the volume of the tv output, so I have to use the amplifier volume control for that. I do not know much about optical audio (I am PhD Electrical Engineer but that doesn't help much with a black box) but it does not distort so guessing there's some sort of specification guidelines for these things. So in short, it works but have to buy a cable and sometimes I have to reset power (about once every hundred times I watch TV, so maybe 4 or 5 times since I purchased this). I did not see anything better and it was convenient to purchase this and the cable at Best Buy where I purchased the tv. BTW, 2 out of 3 staff there did not know anything about how to do this. I upgraded their knowledge :-)

The sound quality coming out of this is very clean. I have it hooked up to some powered monitor speakers from my TV. I thought I had a faulty unit, but I just had the settings on the TV wrong. Make sure your TVs optical out is set to PCM BEFORE you turn on your speakers/receiver or you'll hear some horrible noise. If your settings are correct though it works and sounds great and is very easy to hide away. 5/5

Our bose sound bar on our main TV died and was not thrilled with purchasing another. We had a Samsung bar in the basement on our Xbox one TV. I thought I would move the Samsung bar up to our Main tv and with this little gem I could run audio from Xbox through my 30 year old Yamaha 2 channel stereo. It works excellent! Easy to install! No complaints, my son loves the improvement in sound too. I used the optical cable option. Recommend highly.

This device allows me to connect my new smart TV to my old receiver and stereo speakers. By getting the sound through the TV it eliminates syncing from other sources like cable box, blue ray or OTA signals without switching inputs etc. Easy setup needed to set TV sound to right output. Low cost solution w/o buying a new SS receiver or sound bar.

This optical to coaxial audio output converter is excellent, and it works great!! Our TV only has a digital audio output, and our existing surround sound system only has analog coaxial inputs, so this converter saved us a lot of headaches, plus it works great!! The sound is crisp and clear!! And is it very easy to install....only takes minutes!!

Insignia - Optical/Coaxial Digital-to-Analog Converter was used to set up my Bose system to my new 65 inch tv, and it works perfectly. Nothing difficult about the hookup, very easy and simple. If you have a older product that you want to work with a newer one, go get the converter, it works great. It's not that expensive either. Very reasonable. I highly recommend the converter.

We have had this device for about 30 days and so far it works great and easy assembly. Great directions. We used ours to connect the TV in the bar to a Sonos so we get surround in the bar and throughout the downstairs. Make sure tv advanced settings are set to PCM or it might not work with newer. TV's.
