I eventually got my system running, but I spent over a day on it. The bottom line is that the original unit was faulty and had to be replaced and the cable retention on the unit is not solid and is prone to falling out. I could have saved considerable time and risk if the Best Buy personnel could have tested the unit on their demonstration TV. I bought a new TV which did not have an RCA audio out port. The only possible solution for my situation was the optical port. I needed to convert the optical output to an RCA output and this unit seemed ideal. I have never used an optical port, so I am a novice at this. First problem is that the optical cable does not seem to "snap" into place. It seemed to simply insert and fell out easily. Second is that I did not get any sound. I had to trouble shoot this situation. The problem could have been the TV, my use of the TV settings, proper insertion of the cable into the TV, proper insertion of the cable into the converter (which was already a known problem), the optical cable, or the converter. I tried checking the cable (I am a novice, so I was not sure my test was valid), and the cable seemed OK. It seemed to be inserted properly into the TV. I researched the TV setup and it seemed to be OK. Since the TV set up controls are quite complex, and the documentation was seriously difficult to use, I called the TV manufacturer for advice. Fortunately, they treated me with respect and spent several hours trying to make this work. Unfortunately, the folks I talked to did not seem to know any more about this than I did and simply sent me web pages to read. I had already done that, of course, so much time was wasted. I finally decided that the unit might be defective. I went to my local Best Buy store where it was promptly exchanged. We could not test either unit in the store (the personnel were not authorized to do that). The new unit worked. However, cable retention is till an issue, which I have partly solved with some wire ties, but it is still a questionable installation.

Connected my ol Bose Cinemate to my new 4K Samsung tv.

Love that I can use my old Bose receiver system with my new TV that has no rca hookups. The only complaint about the converter is that the audio quality of my Bose receiver is degraded a bit with the converter. That being said, it’s still way better than a sound bar.

I was trying to hook up Bose speakers to Tv. This made it happen.

We recently changed to Direct TV, They do not have the red audio out connection, we were trying to watch the fight on the projector and with out that red connection we did not have audio. Well cam to Best buy for help and your guys were very helpful and pointed me to this and said all I needed besides this was a coax cable and it worked.
