Like a micro hotel ice maker in your home!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should probably say upfront that I have never had a machine like this before and so have nothing to compare it to other than the ice maker integrated into my freezer. Now that that's out of the way, I want to say that I freaking love this thing! It's a bit on the large side, but it fits in the same spot on my counter where I normally would keep my Ronco Rotisserie Oven. The size is not a deal-breaker for me, but if you're limited on space, maybe take a trip to a BestBuy store that has one on display to get an idea of the actual amount of space it would take up. Once you start an ice making cycle, you get ice nuggets pretty fast. In my experience, I've gotten enough for 2 beverages in about 35 minutes. Not too shabby! The only drawbacks really are the noise the unit makes and having to move it a bit to run the cleaning cycle. The noise is about the same as you would get from a running dishwasher cycle or possibly a somewhat quiet clothes dryer. Also the sound of the ice dropping into the bin can take a little getting used to when starting from empty. When I first started using it, I thought things were falling off the counter in my kitchen, but you soon learn the sound it makes and in a short while it kinda doesn't even register anymore. The cleaning cycle ejects water through hoses attached to the back of the unit. You'll either need to have a sink within that distance or be able to fit a large bowl or pot in an adjacent spot during cleaning. This may necessitate moving the unit to have everything in an optimal position for cleaning. The last thing I want to mention is something that I didn't even think of at first, but is pretty pertinent. While this unit makes ice, it IS NOT a freezer and if you leave ice in the bin it WILL eventually melt. The cool thing is the unit can recycle the water from melting, but I just end up bagging ice and tossing it in my freezer for future use so I don't have it running all the time. I am very happy with this product and would recommend it for anyone who uses a lot of ice for drinks or smoothies.

Pellet Ice is Nice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insignia, Best Buy’s own brand, is at it again, making a popular small home appliance in a more affordable package than other name brands. This time, they are hopping on the chewable pellet ice craze with an attractive and relatively low priced option. Does this ice maker perform well and make the pellet ice that everyone seems to want for their drinks or just to chew on without cracking a crown? Lets dig in and find out. Inside the box is the ice maker, instructions, a drip tray, and an ice scoop. There are no crazy extras with this ice maker like consumable water filters or separate water tanks, it’s all one unit, which I appreciate. I dislike consumable filters designed to create a subscription model around something you buy, especially small appliances. Setup is easy. Take it out of the box, remove some tape and the protective shrink wrap. Put the drip tray under the front edge of the unit and let it sit. The instructions say to let it sit for 4 hours as this thing has a compressor system in it and sitting lets the refrigerant settle. The first thing to do is put some water in and run the self-cleaning cycle, and then drain it and start with fresh water to make ice. Draining the unit is pretty easy, two flexible silicone tubes with a plug allow for easy draining into a container or a nearby sink. After a cleaning, it is suggested to let it run for a bit and throw away the first batch of ice to finish getting any plastic taste out of it. I let it fill about 1/3 of the way, dumped that ice, then let it run. It starts making ice very quickly, only after about 10 minutes or so it started to drop pellets into the storage bin. One quirk of the unit is that the water reservoir is under the ice bin. Filling it is a little awkward and you can’t readily see the water level without pulling out the bin, but it does result in a very streamlined package that tucks under cabinets without a need to get to the top of the unit to fill it or have awkward water tanks on the sides. It runs at about 60db, so it isn’t silent, but these types of countertop ice makers usually have noise involved when they are running. It’s not so loud that you can’t easily talk over it, watch TV, etc. Ice production is pretty fast and steady, with the bin filling completely in a couple of hours. After that point, as ice slowly melts, it will run from time to time if left on to keep up a continual supply of ice. I only fill it with softened, filtered water to avoid calcium scale build up and to have clean tasting ice. Scale can be removed by running a cleaning cycle with some vinegar and water mix as defined in the manual if that happens. The ice result from this machine is great, with clean tasting and chewable pellets. Getting to it is as simple as pulling out the bin and scooping some out. Overall, if you want clean tasting, chewable ice pellets in a compact package that costs less than some of the competition, this is one you should consider. No consumable filters and easy maintenance add to the appeal of this unit.

Fantastic Addition to My Kitchen Drink Experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently had the pleasure of trying out the Insignia Portable Nugget Ice Maker, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations of what any portable ice maker can do. First and foremost, the speed at which this ice maker produces ice is good. Within 10 minutes I have about a 1/2 cup worth, and within 30 enough for multiple drinks. Whether I'm hosting a small gathering or simply want to enjoy a refreshing drink after a long day, I can always count on this ice maker to deliver prompt results. One of the standout features for me is the longevity of the ice. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the ice produced by this machine stays in great condition for roughly 24 hours. This means I can make a batch in the evening and still have perfect nugget ice available the next day. It's incredibly convenient, especially when I'm entertaining guests or want to keep my beverages cool throughout the day. The nuggets themselves are all very consistent, too, which is a major plus. They're great for all types of drinks, specifically for espresso-based ones that I enjoy quite frequently. One of the aspects I truly appreciate is the ice maker's quiet operation. I was a bit skeptical at first, as I've had experiences with noisy appliances in the past. However, this Insignia ice maker proved me wrong. Its operation is impressively quiet, allowing me to enjoy the soothing sound of ice being made without any annoying disturbances. It does make noise, of course, but the only real annoying thing is when the water reservoir runs out and the water line starts squeaking. When it comes to build quality, I'm thoroughly impressed. The stainless steel exterior not only adds a sleek and modern touch to my kitchen but also feels sturdy and well-constructed. The control panel is intuitive and easy to navigate, and the overall design is compact enough to fit seamlessly into my kitchen space without taking up too much room. In conclusion, this ice maker has become an absolute favorite of mine. Its rapid ice production, extended ice life, quiet operation, and impressive build quality make it a standout appliance that I'm thrilled to own. If you're in search of a reliable and efficient ice maker that checks all the boxes, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this one a try. It has certainly made my beverage experience more enjoyable.

Great ice maker !
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brought this to work because the ice maker on the fridge in our break room is broken and everyone is always fighting over the limited space in the freezer to make ice. This unit works really well - Relatively full bucket in about two hours, easy to fill, perfectly sized machine - not too big, not too small. The cubes are somewhat pellet shaped - everyone who tried them loved them!. Extremely fast, as it made a single glass full in under 10 mins. Very well packaged for shipping, very little chance that it would arrive broken, . Easy to clean (which you will want to do before first use), easy to setup, and great directions that put most items that you get these days to shame. If you routinely need nice , this is definitely worth your consideration and worth your time. Hard to go wrong with a machine that does what it's supposed to as well as this one does. Nice job Insignia, I'm genuinely impressed! By the way, don't discount the possibility of getting a second one - having one at home in addition to the one at work is likely the way I'm going to go!

Avoid this machine like the plague
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great idea, tons of great ice, died a slow, ugly death less than four months out of the box. Squealed loudly, had to be cleaned almost every day, and then finally, just leaked everywhere. Huge pools of water with no warning.

Good but has problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good, but difficult to clean. Lasted 2 years. The ice is great, but it is so hard to clean. It gets mold in it that you can't get out. Sometimes it makes crazy noises and grinding. Now it is making a horribly loud clicking. So much so we can't use it anymore. It ended up costing about 50 cents per day. It was great when it was working good. Now it's dead.

Ice is nice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Quick and easy ice as advertised! Easy to clean and can hold a lot at a time. Cons: The unit is quite tall and may be tough to fit - make sure you measure dimensions. It is also a bit loud when in an ice-making phase, I wouldn't personally recommend if there isn't a door or some distance between this unit and where you hang out.

Ice lovers rejoice - great for get-togethers too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having a standalone icemaker is cool in itself, but one that is small, portable, and makes pebble ice? That checks a lot of boxes. Biggest question is does it live up to the presentation? Unboxing the icemaker fairly straight forward, although I did so with care. With refrigeration involved, I didn’t want to cause damage by shaking it to much or placing it in the wrong position. The packaging is very tight, which is a plus for making me feel comfortable with shipping. Once out, there is no assembly required. Remove all the tape, plug it in, and you’re ready to get started – well, after you physically clean it and run a full load of water through the cleaning cycle, and discard the first load of ice produced. That will take some time. So, your passion for those tiny pebbles will have to remain subdued for quite a while. Once you get through all the proverbial red tape though, this thing is a godsend to anyone who loves having soft, crunchy ice on hand. It lives up to it’s billing of producing ice fairly quickly, as you begin to see ice pellets dropping within about 15 minutes or so. It also surprisingly keeps the ice from melting for quite a while in the clear, but insulated tray. We’ve found this to be a great addition to our kitchen and patio for family get-togethers and events where we need more ice than the fridge can produce.

Love this, makes ice quick and a lot of it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my favorite type of ice and it always has been! This ice maker makes nugget ice and it makes it very quickly. It begins making ice in about 10 minutes for me according to my timer. Out of the box it’s pretty simple and straight forward to get going. I untapped everything and added water. 10 minutes later I heard the first nuggets of ice hitting the basket. I was pretty surprised with how fast it makes ice. I put this in my bar area and it will be very nice to have on game days or while watching sport events, or just trying to enjoy a cocktail or drink. The speed at which it makes ice is one of the biggest selling points for me, we all have been in a a situation where we run out of ice and it’s a big pain to run and get more or wait until the ice maker in the refrigerator makes more ice. It seems to take forever and it his one does not. I frequently host parties and events so this is something that I will use often, and will hopefully not run into the type of situation where I’m running out of ice again!

Decent ice maker, nice for a party
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never had a portable ice maker before. Mainly got it because the family LOVES pebble ice at certain restaurants. It does indeed crank out the soft and crunchy little pebbles, starting in less than 15 minutes for the first ones to drop. Nice that it is a gradual process vs dropping a hundred or so every 1/2 hour in batches. The unit is pretty bulky and heavy, so find a nice place on the counter. Per instructions, it took a few cleaning cycles which took some time before we could start to consume the first pebbles, so just be aware of that. It does make a bit more noise than I was expecting and, similar to any fridge/freezer, it does throw off some heat. My dislike I guess is that it doesn't maintain the freezing temp inside for too long and the pebbles do start to "wet/melt" quicker than I hoped. Yes, I bagged it up and put it in the freezer as well, but it then re-freezes into a brick that needs to be smacked apart with a tenderizer (or other item). Anyway, nice device and still fun for certain drinks and quick ice!

Ultimate Party Tool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Entertaining is an art. Whether you're hosting a simple dinner for family or throwing a lavish party for friends, there are few things more embarrassing than running out of essentials—especially ice. It's that small detail that can make or break the ambience of an evening. As someone who frequently entertains large gatherings, ensuring my guests are well-catered to is my top priority. Enter the Insignia Portable Nugget Ice Maker—a game changer for every social affair. First and foremost, let's discuss the form. The sleek stainless steel coupled with black design instantly communicates sophistication. Not only is it a modern piece that seamlessly integrates with most kitchen decors, but it's also practical. The ease with which it can be cleaned ensures it remains as pristine as the day you buy it, even after countless uses. Its dimensions, standing at 16.54" H x 9.84" W x 16.14" D, make it compact enough for any countertop without it becoming an obstruction. But don't be fooled by its size. This machine is robust. With a net weight of 31.58 lbs, it promises sturdiness, a fact further complemented by the non-slip feet. Whether on a table or a kitchen countertop, the Insignia looks great and won’t budge, ensuring there's no unfortunate mishaps or spills. Now, onto its premier feature—the nugget ice. This isn't your average cubed or crushed ice. It's that delightful, chewable pellet ice reminiscent of some of our favorite restaurants and bars. Not only is this kind of ice a conversation starter (and trust me, guests will talk about it), but it also cools drinks efficiently and is gentle on blender blades for those frozen cocktails. Speed is of the essence when you're hosting, and the Insignia doesn't disappoint. From the moment you turn it on, you're only about 12 minutes away from your first batch of ice. In a world where instant gratification is becoming the norm, this is a significant advantage. No more running to the store in the middle of a party because you're out of ice. Its storage capacity is equally commendable. At 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg), it ensures that whether you're serving cocktails, mocktails, or sodas, every guest's glass has that delightful clinking sound of ice. Operation is a breeze with the digital touch controls. There's no fiddling with complicated settings. A touch is all it takes, and it's set into motion. The inclusion of the ice scoop is a thoughtful addition. It not only ensures hygiene but also provides a touch of elegance when serving guests. And for those who might be concerned about maintenance, the auto-cleaning mode is a godsend. A clean machine is a long-lasting machine, and Insignia has ensured that upkeep is as straightforward as its operation. The textured top, though a subtle feature, hasn't escaped my appreciation. It offers convenient storage for glasses or bottles. This means that while the ice maker is working its magic, you have a spot to keep your next round of drinks within arm's reach, ready to be served. The package doesn't skimp on essentials. Apart from the ice scoop, there's the inclusion of a drip tray—ensuring any water spillage or melting ice doesn't create a mess—and a user guide to help you get acquainted with your new party essential. To conclude, the Insignia Portable Nugget Ice Maker is not just an appliance; it's a statement. It announces to your guests that you're someone who pays attention to detail, values their comfort, and ensures their drinks are served perfectly. For frequent entertainers like myself, it has become an indispensable tool. There's a certain peace of mind knowing that no matter how many guests I host, I'll never be caught without ice. And in the world of entertaining, that's a win.
