My ge Opal died after 3 years and decided to try this since it was 1/2 the cost Ice production; It started making ice very quick. Much faster than the opal Ice quality. Ice is harder than opal nugget ice. I’m ok with that but my family likes the opal ice more Noise level. Much louder than opal. You definitely know when it’s making ice. Ease of use. You have to take the bus n out to fill up the water This causes a he ice but n to leak water every where. I hooked up my opal water reservoir to the back to eliminate that issue Overall not as good as opal but again. It’s half the cost

I've had the Insignia portable nugget ice maker up and running in my kitchen for the past week. I have a few minor annoyances with it, but when I stop to think about its marketed use as a fast producing, portable ice machine, I think this ice machine works exactly as intended. In the box is the ice machine, removable ice drawer, ice scoop, and drip tray. After washing everything, setup is simple, remove the ice drawer, fill with water to the max line, insert drawer, and turn on. Note, it is recommended to run a cleaning cycle prior to first use and every three days post setup. A few other observations, the machine either needs to be placed within ~18" of a sink or moved every time you clean, as it drains through the two tubes that are attached to the back. To drain after a clean cycle, you detach the tubes from the holder, let the tubes drain via gravity (needs to be lower than the machine), and then reattach the tubes. I run RO water and typically clean it once a week, this has worked well for other portable ice machines, and seems to work well for this design. The stainless steel and black design of the ice machine is nice, it blends in well with the appliances, and sits next to my coffee maker without taking up a lot of space. The stainless steel handle is durable, and so far hasn't shown any scratching or pitting with frequent use. The bottom is black, so drips aren't as noticeable as they are on stainless. Due to the fan on the side, there does need to be side air flow versus placing it in a cubby or using it in a built in configuration. The counter space footprint is very reasonable at 16" deep and 10" wide. As far as performance goes, when considering this is meant to be a portable machine, I really like it. A few minor call outs are: there is not an external water tank (however it is plumbed to add one if desired), so its easy to move about, albeit a bit heavy / bulky at 32 lbs. It's also somewhat noisy, think older dishwasher level hum. Filling the water tank, which sits directly under the ice drawer, is a bit of a pain. Due to the shape of the machine, you can't easily dump a pitcher or measuring cup. If you had something shaped like a two liter bottle, that would likely be the only way you could fill it up in one attempt. However on the positive side, it was producing ice within the first 15 minutes, and it has intuitive controls and drawer lighting. I wanted to detract a star due to the noise and the annoyance of not being easy to fill, but when you consider this as a portable machine, those really weren't in scope of how this was intended to be used. I did find that if I let it run overnight, the ice drawer filled up and the auto-off kicked in, the ice melts in the drawer and would drip water and overfill the drip tray when opened the first time. Again, not an issue if you're running it and using the ice before it turns off and the ice starts to melt. Overall, I do think this is a 5 star machine, take it with you to a party, set it up for when the entire family comes together, or use it on occasion in the home bar. I don't love it as a machine to run full time due to the noise and the fill design limitations, but still those are minor aspects if you do chose to run it full time. The upside is this is an economical machine, it produces the "good ice" rapidly, and it takes up limited space.

Used both Opal and Insignia, while the Opal is great, I'm much happier with this one at a fraction of the price. Makes good solid ice nuggets. Machine is definitely louder than the Opal, but we live with a lot of highway noise, so it isn't an issue for us. Once we got used to the sound of the ice dropping, we don't notice it much, it reminds us that ice is being made. Solid product at a great price, especially if you catch it on a deal like we did, could be less than $300. Great deal! Thanks Best Buy!

It's the perfect size for at home. Plenty can be made ahead of time for special occasions. I took mine on vacation because who doesn't want to eat ice on a hot August evening. It does, however, live in the garage due to the noise and size.

This is our second one.. Truly hope it lasts longer. The first quit freezing in the first month. We had to package it up and take it to a store where they reordered another. Shipping was good. When the ice maker was working made really great ice. It is a little louder than expected. But we love it.

Like most ice machines, it lasted about a year. Today found multiple plastic parts in my ice. It had been making a loud bang every time it started. Always buy a extended warranty for ice machines. Ive never had one last much past a year. Good ice while it laated.

Set up with really easy. The nuggets are not like restaurant ice. That's my only great with this machine. But it was easy to set up either to use. And it makes ice really fast, so is it a good ice machine? Yes, if you're looking for like the soft crunchy ice from restaurants, this is not the machine what? You still do get nice size ice out of it. So if you're looking for a nugget machine, this is a pretty good one I would recommend.

Love the ice this makes - just like Chick fil A! It makes it pretty quickly. Only thing I don’t like is that this machine is quite noisy but overall I would definitely buy again & it’s a good product for the price.

Love this little ice maker. The nugget ice is awesome. This is our second unit, the first died at the 8 month mark but was quickly replaced via warranty.

Machine works well. We very much enjoy our biggest ice with each and every drink. Only reason selected 4 of 5 stars is because we had to return the first one because of weird noise after 3 months of using it.

Easy to clean. Makes ice fast. I do admit that its kinda loud, but overall a great product that makes amazing chewable ice.

It works really well at making nugget ice. It's a little loud and sometimes it has a bit of a high pitched sound, so I wouldn't recommend running it all day but it makes a lot of ice quickly and easily.

It makes the best ice. I only use it when we are entertaining, but it's always a hit. It's super easy to use and doesn't take long for a full container of ice.

I am currently on my third... and it is failing. Less than 6 months after it was replaced. I do weekly cleans, always use distilled water, and wipe downs every time I refill the water. What really stinks, is if it dies before the extended warranty I purchased goes into effect (a year on the manufacturer) you don't get that money back. So I am about to return this machine again, and spring for an Opal... but even with the manufacturer warranty, I am out the money for 2 extended warranties because the machine has died BEFORE the 1 year mark. But before it dies... the ice is perfect =(

Nice nugget ice maker. This is my second one (both Insignia brands) and this latest version is much nicer However, even with regular cleanings and using distilled water as recommended, black mold is still appearing. This was the reason my first ice maker was thrown in the garbage, and now this one is following the same path.

I used mine non-stop for about two months. It made ice quickly and looked good on my counter. It runs a bit loud though. I ran the cleaning cycle a couple times. Last week my entire family got very sick and we couldn't figure out what we all got at the same time. I thought perhaps the ice maker. I ran a cleaning cycle and little green chunks appeared in the water. I ran 4 more cycles and it looked like pond scum coming out. I later rinsed and wiped it down, so it looked new and started making ice again. The next day I looked in the tank and noticed a bit more green algae looking stuff, so I ran another cleaning cycle. This time even more green gook came out. I'm returning mine and the one I bought my mother. I had bought the extended warranty.

Great ice fast; 3 freezer bags full will last me 2 or 3 days. It is easy to fill and use. I make sure it is totally dry and empty after each use to take care of it. I wish the scoop had been made of aluminum instead of plastic. We cannot have an icemaker in our refrigerator, and I did not want the cylinder ice nor a bigger more costly nugget ice maker.

Makes fantastic ice but once you run the cleaning cycle it dies and makes a sound like the offspring of a semi truck & screeching dinosaur would make. Be forewarned. Found plenty of reddits and other reviewers with the same problem. Not a huge problem if you still have warranty or bought the extended coverage but it doesn’t bode well for an extended life of such an expensive ice maker. You may be better to get one off of Amazon or tik tok.
