I am happy such connectors exist. You have to buy the connecting cords as well but the converter is a great item.

I purchased a turntable but unfortunately since Sonos connection streams over Wifi and the turntable was bluetooth, i needed a way to connect to the Sonos to play records. The work around: RCA to HDMI into TV input. Switch TV input to run audio from the Turntable through the TV to the Sonos. Unfortunately, this left me having to look at a "No Picture" Blue Screen everytime i wanted to play a record, so i ended up returning the turntable and replacing it with a Sonos-ready one. I still have this insignia converter though, its velcro'd to the back of the TV just in case I need it in the future.

Use it for a VCR, but it also worked, as expected, on a laser disk player. Connect RCA cord on one side, and HDMI to the other, and voila! Picture and sound on a hi-def TV. Price beat other products I looked at, too.

I used it to hook my NES up to my new TV and it did great. Make sure though when you buy it you are getting RCA -> HDMI instead of HDMI -> RCA. They sell both products, which do very different things.

For connecting game cables to the Computer Monitor

I thought it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack (really hear to find). I can play on both the computer and the wii (if I wanted too) at the same time. The Monitor, I am using, will change from the computer to the Insignia™ Converter went the computer is in see or scene saver mode (which I do not want). But over all I love this Insignia™ - RCA to HDMI Converter and it is a lucky find.

So, if you are purchasing a new tv and you still use older audio/video equipment you will likely need this converter and a HDMI cable.
