I couldn't be happier the converter completed the deal, ALL works well now.

New tv and using older audio/video equipment

So, if you are purchasing a new tv and you still use older audio/video equipment you will likely need this converter and a HDMI cable.

The product is easy to install and use. The only issue was that I had to use the scalable HDMI input on the mixer to access the signal from this device. I could not get the video using the standard jacks of the mixer. The video quality was closer to SD rather than HD at both the 720 and 1080 settings. Despite this limitation, I am satisfied with the product.

I used it to hook my NES up to my new TV and it did great. Make sure though when you buy it you are getting RCA -> HDMI instead of HDMI -> RCA. They sell both products, which do very different things.

RCA to HDMI Converter

Use it for a VCR, but it also worked, as expected, on a laser disk player. Connect RCA cord on one side, and HDMI to the other, and voila! Picture and sound on a hi-def TV. Price beat other products I looked at, too.
